Me and my buddy did this but accidentally added 13 miles to our hike. We started at sunset 8:45 pm got done the next morning at 10 am to figure out our car is 4.5 hours away with no ride. The greatest thing I have ever done. Can not explain the experience.
Great video I have been to the Grand Canyon quiet a few times over the years. I'm 55 years of age and always wanted to hike it but my health kept me from doing it. Its great to see people like you make videos so people like me can really see what God has created. It was an awesome video and as I was watching it felt like I was there. Great job guys keep up the good work.
Great job on the videography, Lee! We did North to South a week after you guys but in 2 days instead of 1. One of the greatest hikes of my life and a memory I will never forget. We ended up hiking in 130 degree plus temps thru "The Box" and thankful we survived that part of the trail. Thanks for sharing your vid.
Great video! I sure would love to take that hike, thanks for taking me along. Your video gives new meaning to the old saying "Take a trip and never leave the farm"
Thanks for this guys, great to watch and dream. My first trip to the Grand Canyon is coming up in August, so probably won't do this hike then, but who knows in the future? Aspirational.
First off congratulations on completing the hike! I cannot believe you hiked in July! Watching your fresh faces at 5am turn into fatigue once you hit Cottonwood Campground reminded me of my own Rim to Rim hike. That open section through Bright Angel Canyon with very little shade is a killer. I'm headed off to do it again in two weeks, but this time starting on the North Side. Thanks for sharing.
Peter: We still had fresh (but sweaty) faces at Cottonwood... it was further up the north side by later afternoon when we were fatigued. Best of luck and enjoy!
Awesome video with lots of great shots and views. I really got a good sense of the scale. I thoroughly enjoyed it and hoped to complete this same hike someday in the not to distant future. I’m going check any other stuff you may have since I don’t get out nearly enough. You left at 611 am and finished at 430 pm, how many miles was it point-to-point?
+aceyorba: Yes, you are correct. Only shuttles are allowed to the trailhead, but at 3:00 am there is little or no one who is monitoring this process. At that time, I think there were three or four cars after ours that pulled into the trailhead to drop off hikers. It is okay to be dropped off.
Mr. Hoedl, first of all it is wonderful video. I plan to hike in Grand canyon on last week of march hoping I can get camping permit. I can only spare maximum of 2 days if I do get camping permit. Under the circumstance which camping ground do you recommend for 2 day hike? I was thinking of descend south kaliab and set tent on bright angel camp ground, continue to north rim and come back to campground and spend night and go back to southrim. I need your advice, many thanks
+Kyunam Kim: If you are planning to go South Rim to North Rim and then to South Rim, I might suggest the following: South Kaibab, set up tent/camp at Cottonwood Campground, ascend to North Rim and then back to Cottonwood for the night's stay - the campgrounds at Cottonwood are more accessible to rent, have running water and you will be VERY tired by the time you come back to Canyon floor after reaching the North Rim. You can leave early enough on Day Two to cover the ground - mostly downhill - to Phantom Ranch and then back up the South Kaibab. Let me know if you have other questions. Best of luck!
RealSoundNow the most important exercise to do is, in my opinion, are step up and step down exercises. The GC is just a giant stairwell going up and down. Good luck!
Brian: Actually, only one battery for my Sony HD cam - it had a charge listed at 240 minutes. The heat didn't impact it as I had a pouch I kept in when I was not filming and out of the light (black casing on the camera). We each had 2 two-liter water bladders - we didn't need water as much on the way down into the Canyon - we topped off our water at Phantom Ranch, Cottonwood Campground and then not until further up the north side.
Glad you did rim2rim in a day but I like outdoors so much that two or more days is more my thing. You can see more of the canyon on a multi day hike

Outstanding video. Thank you for allowing me to enjoy the trip vicariously. Too old at age 70 to hike into the canyon. Now I know what it is like.
RG: You are most welcome. It was a memorable hike and I'm so glad I could share it with individuals like yourself.
Thank you for sharing your journey with those of us that aren't able to take that trip.

+Salomino Jr : Congratulations on your endeavor! It most definitely is a memorable hike - in one day or two days.
So good! Thank you for posting. We are heading out for our first one day R2R September 20th. We will be going to North to South though.
Great video! I sure would love to take that hike, thanks for taking me along. Your video gives new meaning to the old saying "Take a trip and never leave the farm"
Thanks for the nice comments - it was a phenomenal memory. Glad I could share it with you.

great video, loved it, would love to do it....
Nice Video..Did you guys walk to the south Kaibab trail head or did you get dropped off? I thought they only allow shuttles to the trail head.

Great video and congratulations. I plan on going North to South in June. 20 weeks to train for it. What did you guys do to prepare? Well done!!

how many batteries did it take to film all this? What were you water bladder sizes?
