The Gmin6 chord melodies are exactly the same as the Dominant7 chord melodies in Part 2 of the Jazz improv series, that's a relief. But wow this is a dense amount of chord theory lol, like, I don't even know where to begin. You could pick points from literally every single lesson I've seen on this channel. Firstly there's the baseline knowledge of the chord melodies that's applied here (from the Jazz Improv Series) but then there's chord theory taken from all over the channel, mostly from the Beginner to Advanced series. There are rootless chords like the EbMaj6, which is the same shape as a minor chord but a third above (being the 4th in the scale, because counting it goes like 4 5 *6* which is the bass note, then it goes back to 6 7 1, so this works as a replacement of the chord you want to play, and a pretty easy way of getting three inversions of the chord which may or may not be the one you need for the chord melody... I just realised that this method literally lets you play chord melodies in the scale on the b string, wow, I didn't think I would make a revelation while typing a comment lol). Then pretty much all the other chords are extended shell voicings from the Shell Voicing videos of the chord series. It's so cool seeing so much of the stuff I've learnt from this channel being used to play *actual* music. Also that little realisation I had about finding chord melodies felt good lol. Edit: Also I noticed for the second ending he played the D7 chords with the diminished chord shape, I never realised that when you play them a minor third apart that they're *inversions* lol, I remember him mentioning the fact that you can play diminished chords like that and they'll sound good in the scale but I had no idea they were the same notes. That's also really cool. I'm surprised how quickly I learnt this, Jared's a great teacher
I've done this with a few songs. Whenever I do, I always feel like I really understand the song better...as a result, I can play it any way I want. It's fun! Always learn things in the process. Thanks for this! 👍 👌 Edit: Actually, I've been working on a similar project off & on, using the melody from a song that has always been close by in my mind. I can't remember the name (Change Gonna Come?), but everyone will recognize the words: "I was born by a river, in a little tent. And just like that river, I've been running ever since. It's been too hard living, long time, and change is gonna come." The interesting thing is that, the other day I figured out a chord sequence that works great for supporting the melody, but I know they're not right. Not just the wrong key, totally wrong progression. But they work well! From that I'm developing a new song that makes a great blues song, it inspires a heart wrenching solo also.
That was very satisfying, especially as Autumn Leaves has been one of my favourite tunes from way, way, way before I started getting serious about playing guitar as best I could. Thank you.
I don't know why this one is taking me so long.. I am trying to "understand it" better and that is helping me.. you seem to always do a good job. I finally made it through... now I need too get it under my fingers and will try to metronome it.. then find the next lesson
Excellent explanation. I’ve been playing it for awhile in Em. Really good explanation of how to match the melody with the drop2 voicings. Also nice to see some different chords like the Cm11 and the D b9b13
Hi Jared, would it be possible for you to do the whole song like this video and maybe more songs in future so people like me who don't read charts as good can learn to play the song by just looking at your video and follow it?
Thanks for the request! I would absolutely love to do that. I can't say when exactly, but consider it done. I'll add them to the "make it a chord melody" playlist.
Hey Jared, amazing work here man. Question: I received and downloaded the packet from you, but the version of Autumn Leaves in there is a different arrangement than what you lay out here. Do you also have the transcription of the specific chord melody you play at the end of this video?
Thanks! Glad you like the lesson. Sorry to say that I don't have a PDF download available of the chord melody arrangement version from this lesson at this time. You'll have to use the diagrams in the video. Thank for asking though!
This video is probably intended to get you started with a process of HOW to do it. You could use these tips to apply them to the rest of the song yourself. You learn better that way

Great stuff. Most difficult form of guitar playing I'd say - but well worth the effort!
First I like then I watch …
Haha, thanks so much! :)
Thanks for the lesson. Maybe I did not pick this up, but what key is the song ?
