It amazes me how much power he can have behind his voice even though he only sings in his falsetto. Absolutely incredible.

Your right, it is two very different things. I'm playing the part of Pinocchio in my school play and I'm trying to have power in my voice without a mic but I just can't seem to make it happen😂😂 it's pretty difficult to sing with a Pinocchio voice

Blondie 225 I know it’s a year late, but it’s nasally and comes back in the throat. At least for me. It’s quite easy for me since I’m a girl and I can get that high because I speak higher already. Plus since it’s so high, it’s like a piercing sound so you can really belt it out if you can get the voice down. The southern accent kinda just comes for me with the voice. :)

I had no idea until the end credits (I watched it on Netflix) that he played so many roles! I'm astounded by his talent! Oh my god! I can't believe how many things he did in this show, and how busy he was! And that he did them all well! Whoa. I agree, respect. Wow. Amazing, superb.
Man, is there anything that Tartaglia CANNOT do? Pinocchio, Dragon, the Mirror, Ave Q which is still a pretty huge thing..............also, in love with him too. He's funny and attractive

When I saw this recently, I fell in love with the character Pinnochio and how he and the others had to be like Shrek, as they pointed out. I really just loved the whole show!!!!! They deserve to win all of the tony's!!!
I agree! Even though I like the original animated movie I think I like the musical better!

This is so helpful for people like me who are auditioning for this role so that we can get to know the character better and therefore perform it better.
I love how this video explains everything that he does and how much running around he has to do. I knew he did a lot, but I never knew that it required that many costume changes! He's such a talented performer and it was a treat to see him perform.
I love what he brought to the character of Pinocchio and how he played him and how important the character is in the musical and his journey to accept who he is and how different he is

He does SO MUCH in this show and it is incredible. Never getting a break, but he gave it his all every time.
When he was onstage, I couldn't take my eyes off of him for long! He has the BEST expressions ever! And the only time I didn't laugh was when he had his "why can't I be a real boy" scene, and that's because it's a crime against humanity to laugh at a crying puppet boy.
I was trying to figure out how they got his nose to grow on que....

OMG, Johnny was SO amazing! I KNEW he was in the Travel Song scene, but he had more puppets than just Puss. I think he also did the bunny (the one Shrek said looked delicious that ran off screaming like Rod), either the dish or the spoon (similar departure), and maybe the voice of the cow.
Johnny is, by far, the most amazing guy I have ever met!

Yes, I finally get to see what John does with the Dragon! Feels like the Dragon is one of the most important aspects of the production yet they don't really talk about it in the interviews

I am a girl and I got Pinocchio, and they usually cast girls as Pinocchio in school plays because of their high voices. hope u get the part!

My acting group is doing the pilot performance of shrek jr and I would love to be Pinnochio
When Shrek finds them all on his swamp. And they're all making jokes, like how the big bad wolf really isn't big and bad, and then pinnochio comes out and says "Yeah, and how I'm actually a real boy!" and his nose grows, and he just points at it and says "Uh...I have a glandular condition..."
He does amaze me! I remember when he did tv for kids. Then I researched him finding he has such broadway history then my child grows up and I see him in shriek broadway 🎭 proudly representing freaks which as some of us catch is a huge homage to gays surviving in our society!
So I was recently cast as Pinnocchio in a local production of Shrek the Musical. Rehearsals don't start for a few months, but I want to start working on the iconic voice. I don't want to ruin my vocal chords, but I'd like to be able to pull the voice off. Any tips?
try and use ur nose a lot, and be high pitched but not glass breaking
i love John and i was so mad because when i went he wasn't playing Pinocchio. gr hopefully he is in the dvd version. :P

John you are great as Pinocchio in Shrek the Musical we all love your accomplishments and goals so much you are touched the lives of people. the fans loved you all of Fairy tales creatures. we know this musical that you guys doit's great experience that we never forget.

I'm not trying to cause trouble, but if the Tony nominations were any indication of how the awards will go, nobody has anything in the bag. There were a lot of surprises already, particularly Rock of Ages' 5 nominations and Shrek/9 to 5 not getting nominated for set. I think it's safe to say that June 7th will bring some surprises. Let's just cross our fingers that it'll be in Shrek's favor!

@artist2748 In the broadway production that is true. But for one time only he performed in this show in a different country- I forget which one- and in the behind the scenes for that he dressed up as a troll
