    I love your ambition to go full force into a project/hobby. While I learned to knit years ago I never did more than headbands - I picked it back up this last year as I joined a knitting group at church. I am a VERY slow learner, so I’m still doing dishcloths and “straight” knitting but have hopes to expand my makes with time. Thanks for sharing your start of the hobby- I look forward to seeing your makes!

      From what I’ve heard you can do a lot with straight knitting-even making sweaters! But it is great that knitting gives you the chance to keep growing in the skill if you desire to!

    You are off to a great start, One way to grow as a knitter is to tackle challenging projects. Also, if you can find a local group to knit with, you have excellent resources. Keep knitting! My trick for learning techniques from UA-cam is to search the technique I want to learn. I then open as many links in as many tabs as I can. I watch them, and then only keep the ones open that I can understand. Another tip, there are many ways to get to the same destination. Keep your finished item in mind, if you are getting the result you want, don't worry if you knit it slightly differently.

      @@shetlandlace I think there is a knitting group near me, but I’ve yet to check it out! I love that advice about the tabs- so practical! And the advice that if you get the outcome you hoped for, don’t worry about the method it took to get there. Thank you! ✨

    I love this video. You will figure it out. And when you do, you will go back and see the difference between the first few things you make and the newest things. I used to make sweaters all the time and a raglan sleeve was always my favourite. It was just the easiest and I always loved the look of it. I’m actually looking for a knitting class in my area because I want to learn how to do a cable stitch. I’m also left handed, and thankfully they have left handed tutorials on UA-cam. I’m looking forward to more of your content. Good luck❤

    I left a detailed comment about the importance of swatching and then trying to find a social knitting group, but UA-cam won't load it 😅 I recommend watching Nimble Needles' video about swatching, it is so so important when making garments. You'll save yourself a lot of sanity and yarn! And finding a social knitting group, usually through a local yarn shop, is a great way to hang out with others in various levels of knitting and learn/hang out❤ You're doing great!!!

    • @haleyhoudini
      @haleyhoudini 13 днів тому +1

      Ah yeah! Once you establish an average tension unique to yourself and just get used to your knitting style with various needles and yarns, then you could get away with swatching. But it will take a while! Even a 0.5mm difference in needles or slightly different tension compounds over the course of a garment and can mean drastic changes in size, fit, texture, and drape of the fabric, differences that you would miss without swatching. You got this! ❤

    I am also a relatively new knitter (about 2 years of knitting) and it’s so fun once u get the hang of it!! i’ve been crocheting for like 6 years and I feel like learning to knit has let me understand so much more about like yarn quality and stuff that crocheters don’t talk about as much it seems. also my best advise I can offer is to just dive in head first cuz the struggle is what makes u better!!

If you have the right/good needles its just a dream tbh i got supercheap circular needles as a present the ones with plastic cables and they broke before i was even below the sleeves on my sweater then i got the knitpro needles and already just holding that was so good.
