Thank you! I was just going to make the same comment. The Koltanowski isn't refuted. The same author who is famous for the Zukertort, David Rudel, has written an excellent book with updated ideas for the Colle-Koltanowski called the Phoenix Attack.
A great reason to play the Colle-Koltanowski. Even a great GM like Simon William doesn't understand it after quickly looking at it. Also, this is NOT Koltanowski, it's the Zukatort.
I don't understand why, in the c3 variation, you say the bishop on c1 is bad. White generally plays e4 soon enough, and the bishop is free. On the other hand, in the b3 variation. Often White puts the bishop on b2, Black plays cxd4 and White responds exd4. Then the bishop on b2 stares at the pawn on d4 the whole game. In my experience, it's the opposite of what's said in this introduction. Of course, I'm just a lowly amateur.
I guess that it's cos a good player with black can stop you going e4, also a good player with black might also not want to take on d4 and relieve the tension, so in that case you might be able to take on c5 and open your bishop. I wonder the same thing though. Probably that's what most good players would do. Bishop on b3 offers a bit more support for when the knight goes to e5 though.
Of course. When you purchase a Chessbase course, you always have the choice between a digital download, or a digital download and a DVD that they ship to you. Obviously that option is more expensive than just digital download, but some people like the physical format (same thing as paper books vs ebooks).
Anybody that makes a DVD on the Colle ... then says the Koltanowski var is a dud.... you need to pass on ... & Imo to play the Colle you need to learn both The Zuckertort and the Koltanowski...not just one.. due to when play plays a line to Counter the Zuckertort ... he allowes the Koltanowski and vice-versa Finally ... the Colle w/c3. The Koltanowski was played long before Edger Colle became famous playing it...
They had many years to change the title but... not. Nothing strange here, they had 25 years to make chessbase a funtioning software but not that either ;)
So this video about the Colle Koltanowski claims that the Colle Koltanowski variation is garbage and you should actually play the Colle Zukertort instead. LOL
This is an introduction to a DVD course on the Colle Zukertort. Unfortunately both this video, and the DVD course, I believe, are mistitled the Colle Koltanowski.
Guys this is a Colle Zukertort! Koltanowski is the variation with c3

More a plug for the dvd than a training video. Probably should have guessed that when I saw the length of it.

@@alfa-psi Thank you, I don't play that version.

thank you for the video
When will you make a chessable course on the CZ? Maybe a combo CZ/Torre Lifetime Repertoire.
Laughed hard when Simon said comiserations! He's is so funny and also very good at explaining ideas.
Can you a get a non-DVD version of this, one you can download straight to your computer?
Absolutely. That's what I do when I buy a Chessbase course. Always digital download.
Koltanowski games show many good wins after C3
DVD? Is there a downloadable version for those of us that have moved on from DVD?
