The saddest thing about this horrible situation is that he doesn't care that he hurt his wife & family with his betrayal & selfishness. He only cares about whether he'll be able to see Anna again smh.
@@JosephCoenMason - Your son.... YOUR son, not ours. Jesus. I somehow feel sorry for him but I can't say why. He's the sort of man who shouldn't have a family in the first place.
Yes indeed. It's about obsession - his. The overwhelming power of that, above all else, family, career, personal safety. It's truly tragic and pathetic. You do understand it here. Funnily enough Netflix has tried to remake this as a series called Obsession (funnily enough) and from everything I've read and heard there is no indication as to why on earth the lead male character would become obsessed with the female character and it has of course bombed completely. I always found, especially in the hands of Irons and Binoche that it was understandable and believable - horrible as it is.
This scene breaks my heart every time. She is flawless as an actress. I can’t imagine how painful this can be, but it happens doesn’t it? It happens every day.
Why do I do this to myself. Often I rewatch this scene when in a very happy mood to test myself. When she breaks my tears are coming spontaneously. Most brilliant and natural acting ever!
"I don't want pills. I want him back." Lord, Miranda puts the "T" in thespian. She is one of England's national treasures. I could watch her in anything, and have been a fan of her stellar work since "Dance With a Stranger" and "Crying Game". 👏👏👏👏
What an incredible incarnation... because it is more than acting... it is... at the edge of possession. You can cut the sound and her whole body is screaming... radiating an overwhelming stream of emotions...
I don't have children, but I know the pain, the unbearable ache and the hole it leaves. Absolute torment. I feel for any parent that loses their child.
What viewers may not realize is that this man is disconnected from all that is related to his married and professional life. The fact that he actually tried to see her again after his son died is shattering when you think about it.
Pity she didn't get the fatal attraction role, I would have been able to believe in Micheal Douglas betraying Anne Archer for her but not that hag Glenn Close ffs
And the Oscar goes to Miranda... no, wait... Marissa Tomei for My Cousin Vinny. Go figure. Richardson is an outstanding actress and had a good year that year - starring in The Crying Game as well.
I just hope us as humans when we step in relationship being approached by a married man or woman we think first of the husband or wife and kids those tears when they fall it only brings bad luck 😢
I Pray I never understand this. How can you betray ppl like this and keep doing it. I never understand. When you realize the feelings why not stay away. Okay you have sex once, why not then stay away. I don’t understand ppl that cheat and keep cheating. There’s no way they love the ppl they are hurting
her acting is so damn good, it´s gut-wrenching. she really conveys a sense of horror that I am unable to imagine

When he utters the line "Your son is dead.", it's one of the most powerful lines spoken, and it speaks volumes of him as a person.

She should’ve won the Oscar that year for this role.
Sí, Miranda Richarson en esta escena es de una belleza fuera de lo común
Love Miranda and this movie. But no. Marisa deserved that oscar fare and square.

Great film. Very tragic. The acting, esp by Miranda Richardson, is as great as acting ever gets!

I grew up with her as Queenie in blackadder.

Miranda Richardson 🙌 👏👏👏 wonderful perfomance 🥺😢 ...! 👋🇦🇷
She pierced the film. Stunning.
Losing a child is the worst thing that can happen to you in this life. NO pain compares. None.

How can she not win the Oscar
Marissa Tomei 🙄
É um show tão absoluto da Miranda Richardson que eu nem tenho palavras
A Great Classic Movie,Hard To Believe It's Been 30 year's since this movie came out
Miranda Richardson’s performance in this was astonishing. Do you know she turned down the Glenn Close role in Fatal Attraction?
Pity she didn't get the fatal attraction role, I would have been able to believe in Micheal Douglas betraying Anne Archer for her but not that hag Glenn Close ffs
Shoo, Miranda Richardson is a national treasure 😍👏🏽 She and Indira Varma played the shit out of this insane role, hail the empress 😎👏🏽
Haven’t seen this since it’s release, this scene is probably why.

An amazing performance in an unforgettable movie. So immoral but so brilliant at the same time.
