My BF of 7 months tried to friend zone me, asking me if we could be friends. I told him absolutely not. It was either relationship or nothing. He completely ignored my wishes, and after breaking up with me, started contacting me every day. It was so painful to keep hearing from him after he'd broken my heart, I had to tell him that I could not do this any more. I think making people friends after being with them is merely avoiding the pain of breakup.
So what ended up happening? Did he come back with a better offer ? I'm in the exact situation now. And I'm told him no to friendship but worried he wont come back with another offer.
Same here. I didn't agree to be friends but he'd reach out quite often by sending jokes/funny vids/memes. I asked him to stop. Recently he asked about the coronavirus in my area. He never even ask how am I. Just 2-3 short exchange of messages and that's it. No real conversation. It's confusing and painful to do this.
My ex had always tried to convince me we could stay friends if we ever broke up. I learned early on in life that it's rarely a good idea to go down that path with someone you had strong feelings for or loved. I think our relationship, which was his first serious one, showed him why I kept saying it was a bad idea. He has never tried to push the whole friendship thing on me, he's actually just stayed away. Which is good and awful all at the same time.

I did say that I would like it if we just went back to being friends. That happened 3 weeks ago and since then, neither of us have contacted each other. I don't think we will in reality go back to being friends again, maybe after a long period of healing and after I have moved on (at least that is what I need from end). It's a good way to end a conversation because there is a sense of being non-confrontational.
I'm in no contact from my fiance who I've been with for 5 years and have a 6 month old daughter with. Our last phone conversation she said she could only see me as a friend for right now. Havent talked to her since aside from when I have to communicate when I'm picking up my daughter. I know my self worth. That was an insult and It hurt beyond words.

so i know it’s best not to be friends with an ex after a breakup, but would you say that logic also applies to situations with a friend you never dated or were intimate with, but had mutual flirtations (as opposed to a friendship where the other person wasn’t attracted to you in the slightest and it’s totally one-sided)? after about a year of close friendship with another woman, i told her i have romantic feelings for her. i really felt the chemistry between us but also sensed she was afraid of risking our friendship bc her last relationship left her with PTSD and skepticism toward romance. also, it was tough on her to lose her ex as a friend, despite that the ex treated her poorly. she turned me down bc of the distance and said she was still healing from her last breakup. i tried resuming our friendship as normal for about a month afterwards. at the time, i thought the selfless thing to do was put my feelings aside. obviously that didn’t work; i felt inauthentic suppressing my desires, particularly after she suddenly started dating someone else. i then told her i needed time apart to work thru my feelings. now it’s been 4 months of no contact. i miss her daily but know in my heart i’m not over her or ready to just be her friend. i feel no contact is the healthiest thing for me (whether that means getting over her, or giving her the opportunity to reassess us) but sometimes i worry she’ll become resentful of me for being unable to just be friends. she openly admired many traits of mine, including my loyalty. i don’t want her to think i’m trying to be passive aggressive or selfish by needing so much time to heal. should i even worry about that?
i have a question what do you say to an ex when they ask to be friends face to face what is the correct way of handling it especially if they are with someone else already ?

I think if you can't be there friend without wanting more, you should just not be their friend. Although I have had friendships where we hooked up later on and they liked me. But that was when I was young and I don't really think that works in middle age
