it happens brother. Try adding in a loremaster NPC that YOU as the DM play to travel with the party for a bit to help get them back on track. They can assist in questions and can help in where to go next
Excellent video with freaky background music! Gave me a lot of pointers for my fairly new ventures into solo rpg's.. Would love to see a follow up to this excellent piece. Cheers
I never thought it'd be easy to solo play D&D but seems like it'll be a great way to build confidence in the game ready to join group sessions. Brilliant video!
You can also use chatgpt to generate stuff. Atm you can even play using chatgpt as your dm but it can only remeber up to 5000 words so eventually it will become forgetful but I use it to create a dungeon depending on what is going on at that moment and it can be a full fledge dungeon with random traps and monsters and boss and everything u expect but u don’t have to roll anything other than combat.
I just finished using Chatgpt. Me being the DM and AI plays a character. I was also controlling the AIs npc. I lated decided the AI could run their own NPC sidekick.
Great Video! Several months ago I combined the starter and essentials kits , together they make a great campaign base, I also only Solo play these days.
Really enjoyed this start to your solo adventure! I feel like I will want to pick up these books with the DM tables just for my regular sessions, very useful I think. Would like to hear how this new band of adventurers make out on their first quest.
Stephen Green Thanks mate. Ordinarily I’m researching all the time for ways to improve the solo experience. What with life’s ups and downs lately tho it’s been a little difficult but I will definitely get back to this at some point. If nothing else it will show the benefit of writing up the narrative and how useful it is for when you come back to the game after a bit of a gap. So glad you enjoyed it that’s great to hear 👍😉😀
Interesting to watch. One thing that struck me is that you used the random tables to make decisions for your party of PCs, taking agency away from them (ie yourself). Maybe in solo play this helps move the narrative along? Was this a personal choice or do you find it necessary in solo play? Is there a way to structure solo play where the PCs have full agency but the world and NPCs they interact with are determined to a greater or lesser degree by the dice?
Awesome video! I would love to see the adventure development! Great job! May I ask you something? Did you read the adventure book before or during the gameplay?
I’ve found a great tool called the Solo Adventurers Toolbox by Paul Bimler. It can create a more open ended adventure without the need for the story book. I am curious with your game how you managed to spend most of the day walking into town, renting rooms at the inn and checking the notice board at the town hall. Seems like a heck of a long time to do all that.
Yeah that was quite early on in my solo journey but still had a blast. The thing with playing solo is that you don't have to please anyone other than yourself and I love that.
I'm trying Goodman Games' Into the Borderlands as a solo game using a few of the resources he has detailed here. It's been... interesting. What I have rolled up thus far has little to do with the published adventure other than being in the Borderlands, but it's actually pretty exciting.
@@MiniWarzone My character is a disgraced Elven noble who fled to the Borderlands to escape his brother's goon squad as his backstory. I rolled up a scenario where the goon squad caught up to him. If he'd fought they'd probably have killed him, but he actually managed to talk his way out.
Hi James. The vast amount of Oracles( the question answered) out there can be used with any RPGs. My favourite one is Mythic. There are now so many books and card decks with random tables etc (check out DriveThru RPG) with random tables etc and some are even specific to Sci Fi, Fantasy, Horror genres - you name it. Solo RPGing is easiest with sandbox type adventures although there are ways to adapt the more campaign type modules and there is a terrific book called DM yourself which helps you do just that. Sorry I am unable to provide any more details at the moment but I’m currently working 😟 I think I have some more stuff in my Solo RPG playlist that might be helpful 😉
@@MiniWarzone That is awesome. You’ve already given me so much more information. I was trying to figure out how to take a module that was meant to have a DM, and play through it solo. But it looks like as I’m reading through it it kind of gives away the clues and everything assuming you are the DM. Anyway, going to take a look at that book you suggested. Thanks for the quick response!
@@MiniWarzone Thank you! Just bought The Starter and essentials Kit and I have watched your Video a few times to Help get me into my own Solo D&D. Very helpful video Thank you!!
What kinds of regulations do you have to consider in regards to copyright when essentially "sharing" the contents of the essentials / starter kit? Not a criticism, just curious because I was thinking of doing a Solo DnD 5e play through of Lost Mines of Phandelvar. Any issues?
There isn’t any issue as I am not reproducing or copying it. Although there are slight differences in copyright laws in the USA compared with the UK I don’t think that it is hugely so. Look at all the video games players out there that stream their games - are they breaking any copyright laws? I don’t think so. It is more about promotion and introducing people to new ideas and entertainment etc. I think your play through of Lost Mines of Phandelvar sounds like a great idea - something I’ve often thought about myself. I say go for it 😎👍
Oh mate what an introduction to solo play, these random tables book looks like so much fun, cheers!
Solo rpgs have had a resurgence in quarantine....it is always fun playing with yoursekf
Lol their universe is infected with the cirus
Virus)
I've run my own game for a few sessions now... I can't believe how much I've derailed my own campaign

Got some Middle-Earth stuff coming up around Christmas time.

Ha ha. Do me it’s always more about the story and how you immerse yourself in it.
Thanks for watching 👍

Thank you, got a bunch of character ideas to try out and good to hone my NPC tactics for the Gang before we head on into a new session.
Great episode, Pete! I enjoyed listening to this role play whilst painting! ^_^

Thank you Methos. This is a whole new experience to me but I actually enjoyed the randomness of it 😉

I am falling more and more in love with solo play the more I do it.
I enjoy playing solo. But the only writing I do is to track combat.
Mate as long as you’re having fun then that’s really all that counts.

I've just started to learn solo 5e and this will be a great help thankyou
Thank you buddy. Thinking of doing some more in the future 😎

This is awesome! I have been looking to solo for a while. Thank you!
Thanks buddy. I have discovered that solo play can be way more fun than you’d expect. Got plenty of other solo vids with more to come 👍
Loved it Pete looking forward to the next solo rpg video.
Thank you friend 😎

Thank you sir. I don’t normally get much traffic 😎👍
Just showing support and spreading the UA-cam love.

I like to use roll20 for my solo play.
Sounds good my friend 😎
play Four Against Darkness, with everything it puts out it is a great solo classic dungeon crawl.
Sometimes I have used this if I encounter a simple dungeon and such like

I do need to find a good technique for a mook fight, though. Calculating the stats for every baddie can be a pain
@@Giles29 awesome what a blast - love it when things go awry and end up being ok in the end 😉
cool vid pete

Where can you get the random tables and the fate chart
The Fats chart is contained in the Mythic book 👍
Oh man! Never new about these GM emulators! Can these be used to play most DnD modules solo? Is there hope for us? :) Thanks for any help!

Check out Tom Scutt's "DM YOURSELF". There's two books and both contains guides to some specific DnD modules.
Great video,I’d Like to see more videos of you playing solo D&D 5e,do you still do it?
I haven’t done for a little while but this is definitely something that I want to get back to. I have been doing some prep work for it anyway.
what is the soundtrack your using?
It is Skye Cullin & Dragon and Toast by Incompetech 👍😎

Did you made the characters by random or rpg cliche just asking.
As far as I can remember they were random.
