Are you using regular drywall mud or something special to cover the screws?
Also, can I do the same for the joints if I am going to use battons?

Hi. I'm finding rusted nail heads in the ceiling after removing popcorn texture. Some are level with the drywall, and some have come out about 1/16". Do I need to treat them with something so they won't bleed through ? Thanks. As always you have provided some of the most useful knowledge available on you tube !

Hi, when you find nails sticking out, if they come out easily, remove them and put a screw right beside where the nail was. If it doesn't come out easy tap it back in, then put a new screw right beside it, so the new screw head overlaps the old and holds it in. As for the rust, unless it's pretty bad, its not likely to bleed through, but you could play it safe and buy a primer sealer like Zinsser Bullseye 123. It's not much more than the cheap pva primer anyway.

When do you know the screw or nail is coated well enough? I want to make sure it doesn't show through after priming and painting.

    • @ThatKiltedGuyDIY

3 tight coats and a light sanding is all that’s needed if the screws were set right. Pva primer and 2 coats of paint to ensure they hide

@@ThatKiltedGuyDIY Do you recommend a specific type of PVA primer? Thanks for the advice!

All purpose or light for filling screws?

I’ve used about everything to coat the screws, including hot mud and it doesn’t seem to make any difference. So either of those two should be fine.
