Justo Takayama Ukon (1552-1615), originally named Takayama Hikogorō, was a respected Japanese daimyo and samurai who chose faith over feudal power. His life was marked by his conversion to Christianity at a young age, alongside his father. Takayama's commitment to his faith led him to support Christian missionaries, build churches, and eventually face exile. In 1614, due to strict anti-Christian policies, he was expelled from Japan, finding refuge and a warm reception in Manila where he lived his final days. Takayama's devotion and sacrifices were recognized when he was beatified by the Catholic Church in 2017.
