Oh, why couldn't this have been a full episode? I'm in a state of QI withdrawal this last little while, and I love ALL the panelists they got for this.
You're right that being fans of an existing sports team does not make cheerleading a sport. It's all the jumping around and flipping people in the air that makes it a sport.
Yes I know that he didn't say I hadn't done the GCSE. That was cleared up later in the conversation. ...and the fact that he didn't like me pointing out a rather significant and huge error ...in a show that is all about pointing out errors, nitpicking and giving more accurate information. I asked him why he bothered watching a show when he despised it's whole premise, but he hasn't answered. Presumable because there is no way that he'd have an answer that isn't utterly stupid.
I rather think it is. Modern routines seems to involve some serious athleticism (lifts, flips, etc.). Furthermore, being "a sport within a sport" has nothing to do with anything when it comes to defining a sport. Are running, cycling and swimming not sports? Because you have to do all three in Triathalon (also a sport).
But in competitions there is no team. there is grading, there is outperforming rivals, there is creativity and exhaustion. how is that not a sport then? Isn't figure skating a sport? it is dance it is aerobics.
I'm not trying to act cool. I am stating obvious, clear and demonstrable fact. "Bird" isn't a species, nor are pigeons the same species, genus or family, by any definition of those terms. ...and I haven't done GCSE biology because I don't live in Britain. We don't have anything, that's called GCSE, over here.
Refusing to accept it as a sport is the reason cheerleading is so dangerous. A sport(especially a school sponsored one) is required to meet certain safety requirements by law. Since people like you refuse to call it a sport the cheerleading equipment companies have an easier time keeping all competitions private in nature. Not only do they profit from this but they also penalize for use of safety measures(so they can sell trips to more advanced training camps)
they do get points? during competition they are judged on various things. how is that not a sport? and you admit it is gymnastic. gymnastic is a sport.
So your only definition of a sport is one that's played at the Olympics? Well then, what about rugby? What about cricket? What about squash? Do they not count as sports?

7 minutes just isn't enough when you'd happily watch a 45 minute episode.
I love these guys QI is the best quiz panel show! Sandy should come on more often or take over stephen's role for a night ;)
this was so high energy, I love it
Just behind George Bush in that picture... That looks like David Tennant.
He really is a Time Lord.
Agreed. In my opinion Sandy is the only truly funny woman who ever appears on QI. my favorite show too (it is tied with doctor who for me)
I've seen enough QI episodes on UA-cam now to know that Stephen has done the topic of cheerleading being dangerous before.
5:45 Stephen was able to keep a straight face but i sure as hell couldn't!! lmao!

If you like Sandi that much, you might enjoy The News Quiz - she hosts it.
I knew the cheerleading answer and, strangely, the cockfighting answer.
But that was the speediest edition of QI ever.
Yes but it gives Stephen a chance to be a funny panelist and i know he would love to be the know it all and get all the questions right :D
even Alan's dreams are wrong! haha love it!
this is the full episode. Other episodes can last up to 45 minutes though. Good luck googling.
6:20 Jimmy is like "wtf is going on here?"
Does anyone know when QI is back on?
Never saw a cheerleading competition then, I guess. Cheerling isn't *only* done at games of other sports.

"Even my dreams are wrong" LOL ALAN
my mate thomas sent me here.. why do people wanna know this??
0:26 OMG it's Roger Federer
"... my dreams are wrong" xD
"My dreams are wrong" :D

Quite right.
5:15 some ones alarm goin off :)
Watch the Cheer leading episode of Penn and Teller's "Bullshit!" Then you will be fully informed, and understand why you are dead wrong. :)
Did Allan really need that last donut?
Like if you got all the questions right.
But in competitions there is no team. there is grading, there is outperforming rivals, there is creativity and exhaustion. how is that not a sport then?

@Marveh yes he does seem like a clown for hire type.
"Bird" is not a species.
Pigeons are certainly not the same species as cocks.
They aren't the same species, genus or family.
Alan has got to get a haircut.

How is that relevant?
*its
Cheerleading*
take over stephens role?!?!?! are u insane??!? no one should do that...even for just a night
This semi-episode seems so fake, and uses old material / facts.
most annoying guest = jo brand.
