Good information Jeff, that note of does+fawns to nunber of bucks is a good rule of thumb.

Thanks Jeff, nice video. My ratio last year was approx 8 does to 25 bucks, I was super happy with that.

I like the confidence in the Buck to doe ratio. I’ve heard many people skirt that question

You did a white board video on new property steps yr 1 and yr 2. I just closed on 50 acres mid April and have cut in access paths with brushhog through briars done 2 300 gallon water holes and planted some red osier dogwood. Going to spray my food plot location this week and start on treestands mock scrapes
    Thanks

In northern Pa 100 acres weve had over last season at least 30 to 35 bucks over season and mabey 15 does. Most seen at one time was only like 5 does.

The only neighbors we have had 10 acres of corn. Aka doe factory buck hang out on our property because we only hunt it at most three times each year because of distance from our house

I have a new property purchased in Kansas (10 woods/10 fields) 20 acres and have seen the same 3 does and 1 buck. Hopefully fall time the bucks transition to the property.

I must admit, my Big Boy job has had me busy the past 10 days and I got behind on your videos. Great topic and I will definitely pass it on. Goes very well with our #wakadoe contest we are doing this year. Thanks a ton for the continued great content for us small guys👊

That's one problem I don't have right now, we are in herd building mode, our deer numbers are poor

I stayed hunting my friends property in Monroe county Michigan last year. He has 70acres right on I-75. I had about 12 different buck there October. I could have 5 come out at one time every morning. I put cameras out in may and had 10 different buck all where I shot my 7 point last year end of muzzle loader. I haven’t got one buck on camera in a month. Hoping they come back. Last year I really didn’t start getting buck on camera until late august last year. He has about 25 acres thick woods with a creek in the middle and the rest is a bean field.

I wish I could get more people to hunt does around where I live. It's a bunch of five to fifty acre plots and of those that hunt they only target bucks. We have easily fifty doe to every buck. So many doe only a few get bred every year.
I can take five deer a season two can be bucks or all five does. I only take does to try and improve the ratio and improve buck numbers and size. Right now what bucks we see are four and six points. And those get dropped fast. A nice twelve point got dropped by one land owner who didn't care about genitics and took him while the rest of us let him breed since he was barely four years old.
Someday I'll have enough acreage to maintain a decent herd, make my land where they want to be instead of neighbors.

The way My property is set up, and its naturaly that way,Its Actualy an Early season hunting property... I see more bucks than any other time on the property and part is due to low hunting pressure at the time... throughout the season the bucks are still there they just turn nockturnal... Some of my best rut stands are adjacent to the property on public land...Everyones Property is different and have to adjust strategy accordingly...👍

One thing I can point out that you have to remember ..bucks are never nocturnal. They just come from a long ways away to get there. As a general rule...an hour after dark is fairly close (1/4 to 1/2 mike)

I got 20 acres on a saddle on a ridge totally surrounded by Ozarks Wilderness, and traditional cattle operations. Harvested a 150+" off one of my small clover hunting plots last year.
Between the doe and buck groups and the black bears, of which we have identified five adults and two yearlings...are always using my plots in ebbs and flows depending on the season and conditions.
I'm originally from Michigan and Wisconsin.
It's a different game here. I learn a lot watching your videos. It's not always applicable to my situation -- but I can almost always apply your philosophy and your herd management goals are worth notingas they're based on scientific data.
Unlike Northern forests, ours are loaded with acorns and hickory nuts, and hunting pressure isn't much of an issue here.

Replace the word doe, with the word meat. Enjoy those boney antlers. I hear they're delicious.

It's easy to shoot does...very hard to consistently shoot the oldest bucks in the neighborhood. Some folks like to hones their skills and become the best hunt r they can be. Some folks like to just harvest m at. Yo each their own? Also...shooting does equals a very short season for an average skill lev led hunter. Not much fun in that. Some like to hunt the entire season...to actually enjoy a 3 or 4 month season instead of being finished in a day.
