it is so sad to say I could not watch this. The voice has gone and will not return it has nothing to do with the aria not suiting him it is the voice. he has had problems for years and to think it goes that far back. I do not recall the opera he recorded where the voice was showing signs of ware, it has all in all a bad recording and should never have been released the same would apply to the as well.
Look at Rolando´s jaw does he have to open up maximum for every note? The voice sounds shady and frey he needs more sun in his voice that will come if he smiles more and drppes the jaw less. The repertoar is right for him though and the voice is beautyfull underneeth his technichal flaws.
You are right about repertoire. Much better for him than Don José, Des Grieux etc... Rolando Villazon has some "scrapping" sound upon his voice, a hoarse quality which returns from time to time. Is it possible that he still has some kind of pressure on his voice?
Huh?? If he opens the jaw which EVERY EVERY great singer did then it allows the tongue to retract stabilizing the larynx and hyoid bone. The smile thing is absolute crap teaching. Now maybe he lacks chest voice and constricts. His tongue becomes thick in places but he isn't going to get the "sun" (I suppose that's your word for chiaro) by smiling. Ruffo opened wide Melchior opened wide callas stignani Caruso do stefano fritz etc...
+jonathon subia Who is do stefano? Giuseppe Di Stefano on the other hand is familiar to me. This repetoar requires more height in the sound then more heavy stuff like Verdi or Puccini. Rolando looks like a sad dog and has no bite in his facial expression. Compairing him with Lauritz Melcior or Caruso is rediculuos!
No, just... no. I don't know if it's because he's not a Mozart tenor or he had some vocal injuries around the time this was staged, but this was painful to listen to.
His voice sounds impure in this one.

I like it, improved technique
¡Bravo, Rolando!
que extraodinaria voz!!!!
Que bello!!!!
Wow... his voice really is gone...
Afonia portami via...
Just close your eyes.
the acting is on point but the aria of Mozart doesn't really suit his voice....excellently performed nonetheless
Mmmm no sé!!!

But I enjoy it
Horrible... throaty voice. Listen to Dermota, Kraus., Araiza.. then you know what singing Mozart is about
