"Get the whole setup about a month before getting the snake."
Meanwhile, me, doing my set-up 3-6 months in advance because I want everything to be tip top for my corn...
Me too, I've been slowly stocking up on supplies for my first lil buddy. :)
3-6 months? I've only had my tank for 5 days and I'm getting my snake on the one week anniversary. I already have everything set up, two hides, a water bowl, a climbing stick, a fake plant, and about an inch of aspen snake bedding. Could use some more stuff to climb on, but I already have the basics down. Perfect temperatures as well. Averaging the early-mid 70s in the cool size and the mid-late 80s in the warm side, and between 50-60% humidity consistently.
Great tips! Backup equipment: bulbs, simple on/off thermostat are also goo to have in case something fails. Don't forget to buy appropriate sized feeders.
Tysm! I'm planning on buying a cornsnake, this was really helpful!
That was really helpful cuz I was always worried about if it didn't eat but hopefully that tip will make sure I buy the right one
Brilliant snakes! my female is my bestie she likes to give me cuddles and snakey kisses and gets well jel when I'm handling my others
Thanks, for the informative vid. I've been researching for nearly a year, to get a corn snake. Especially loved the part,on feeding what 1 to take n 1 to leave. Look forward to watching more of your videos.
very informative, great vid.
Me and my grandmpa be looking to get a corn snake in about 3 months or so this helped a lot thanks!
Kudos to this video. I'm not even a reptile owner and I enjoy the video.
I'm here doing research before purchasing my next pet.
Damn that was the most helpful video I've watched in years! Thank you so much!
Thanks i am at the final stages of research and am about to setup the enclosure then ill get the corn snake thanks for the tips :)
Love your advice my son just got his first corn snake

I sadly don’t keep reptiles anymore but I’ll never stop watching your channel good content! 👏🏻😊
@@genesis3790 I had alot of things going on in my life that at the time sadly stopped me with the hobby 😔 still love reptiles tho just not a keeper anymore
My cornsnake looks like the ones you showed at the end of the video I got my snake a week ago.
I work in the biggest pet store branch in the uk and recently done a shift at a different store that has snakes and i fell in love with this beautiful corn snake. I think im gonna pick him up!
Getting my first corn in a month I normally keep dwa reptiles
Hey! Great video! Question about your tub, it looks like a Really Useful Box? If so, what size of those would you use for an adult and how did you drill the holes in well? Thanks :D
I only use RUB’s for hatchling-subadult corn snakes.
However, if you don’t have the abilities from a wooden or PVC viv. Then at the bare minimum I’d suggest a 70 litre RUB for an adult corn snake.
Of course, bigger is always better!
Oh wow Chilli was born on my 15th birthday 😂. Anyways great video Alex
This has nothing to do with the video but did I see an Ouran High school Host Club poster in the background of the intro? lmao thats dope
Yup!
I watch a lot of anime. OHSHC was one of the first few I ever watched. So when I saw that wall scroll for sale at a local convention, I had to get it!
I like to think it looks great above one of my Chinese water dragon enclosures!
Thanks for watching!

Great tips hopefully I’ll get a snake soon
What temperature gun is that
The temperature gun I used in this video is made by Zilla Products.
It works pretty well, but to be honest. You’re better off with one of the brands sold at a Lowrs or a Home Depot as those temp guns have more features than just “reading” the surface temps of the enclosure.
All good advice. Do you have any tips for a 4 month old baby corn snake that just refuses to eat? I have had her for about 2 months, and I've only been able to get her to eat 4 times. I have tried braining the pinky, par-boiling, moved her to a smaller tub and added more hides, I even moved her to the walk in closet which is the quietest room in the house. Temps and humidity stay good, I have kept 3 corn snakes and a ball python for years but never had this issue.
For now I’d say stick with the small tub in a low traffic area.
It seems to me that when the snake didn’t eat, you began to change things around rapidly, which induced more stress.
Stick with what you are currently maintaining the corn snake in and leave it be for a week.
Then one day before offering food. Remove the water bowl, making the snake “slightly thirsty” is a trick breeders have uses to get them to consume food.
Give it a try! I wish the best for you and your snake.
I am Alex too !!! Hiiii
I have a blood red corn snake and I just wanted to know what size enclosure is best for him when he starts his juvenile- adult years cuz I will spend the money if I have to but he just shed for the first time since I brought him home and he look like he got a lil bit longer so im tryna figure out how long he will last in that enclosure before a have to double it
I’ve just gone by the “two side” rule.
If you snake forms more than an “L” in the enclosure. Then it needs to be upgraded.
For example: a 10 gallon tank (most common size for neonate corn snakes) is 20”x10” in floorspace, so that’ll last a corn snake till it’s 30”. Then upgrade from there.
For my adult corn snakes I use enclosures that are either 36”x24” floorspace or 48”x24” floorspace.
Plenty of room to stretch and move around!
Me watching this vídeo without intending to purchase a corn snake 😂

Do you breed corn snakes? Do you mind sharing where you got your corn snake from?
I do not breed corn snakes frequently. The only times I have ever bred them was at a previous job in 2016 which is how I obtained my Sun-glow Albino het Motley The other time was I n 2022 I sent out that very same snake (Sun-glow Albino) to a friend of mine for a breeding loan.
My other two male normal/wild-type corn snakes I obtained from family friends in 2011.
Would it be an issue if the enclosure I got was adult sized, but the snake isn't an adult?
That may be problematic due to how well small corn snakes are at escaping.
If you plan to buy the adult enclosure right away. Maybe raise the baby in a tub/tote style setup until it’s “big enough” to nit escape from potential small gaps in the enclosure.
Ive heard you want a water dish deep enough for them to soak in but not deep enough for them to drown so how deep should it's water dish be
It varies.
My own water bowls are about 2in (5.08cm) deep and while I have never seen them soak in these water bowls, I know they have the option to!
How much does a good set up cost
It varies.
The PVC setups I showcased in this video range from $259-$399.
However for raising juvenile corn snakes: the tub setup that I shower can go for around
I am thinking of getting a corn snake, can I house it in a 75l/20Gallon tank?
For a juvenile-subadult size snake: yes.
However an adult corn snake will grow to a maximum size of 90cm-150cm, so eventually you’ll need an enclosure much larger than a 75L enclosure.
I’d personally suggest something along the lines of a 120cm x 60cm x 60cm for a mature adult.
@Alex’s Agamids What do people do when there’s no one around anymore who can care for them? ?
Generally snakes are fine for a little bit if you have to go.
I can typically leave mine alone without issues if I’m gone for 5-7 days.
However anything longer than 7 days and you’ll want someone to be able to change their water and spot clean.
Well my snake eat gently and i put him or her on me and he eat on me and does.not not go koukoulou crazy. and after he look at me and pet him and then when he want go back at it cage he goes buy it self
hey quick question, so i sold my horses beacuse i really cannot handle having them, and i really want either a turtle or a snake, in this case lets just say a snake. How many times do you have do feed a corn`? for all i know theres snakes that eat daily and snaked that eat monthly-
I typically feed my adult corn snakes every 10-14 days.
Juveniles will need to eat every 5-7 days.
What if thermostats are not buyale in your area? The literal only place I have is petsmart and it is so low.
Thermostats (such as the HerpStat’s I use.) can be ordered online and delivered to your door 👍🏻
Hello, my baby snake is a hesitant eater, how is it going to effect her life? 😢
I wouldn’t worry too much.
If you have just acquired your new snake. It’s common for them to be slightly hesitant regarding food in a new environment.
Some are just super gentle about taking their food and stay that way. It's like they go out of their way to be polite and don't want to strike properly if your hand is in the vicinity.
Thanks for the tips! I'm researching corn snakes as a potential first reptile pet and I have a question if you have time to answer it:
Is there any reason to not get an enclosure that's fairly tall? I've noticed in my research on here that people tend to have enclosures that are about 2 feet tall, but I'm wondering if this is just because that's cheaper than a larger enclosure or if there are reasons relevant to the snake's health/comfort to keep it around 2 feet tall.
I'm interested in scaping and planted tanks, and I'm picturing something that's, say, 4x2x4, with some vertically oriented driftwood and vining plants, but I don't want to consider it if it'll be bad for the snake.
4’x2’x4’ would be a perfect size!
Most people go shorter so it is easier for the snake to bask under heat lamps from the ground level.
However, if you have a 4’ tall cage. Just add a heat pad so the snake has a terrestrial heating option as well as an arboreal one.
...🐍👍
They pee and poop allot? I wanted a baby corn snake but was told they poop a lot and it smells real bad
Only as babies. But if you have a proper enclosure, and keep it clean. There is no smell.
@@AlexsAgamids what brand and size proper enclosure would you recommend?
It varies depending on the size/age of the snake.
The majority of neonate corn snakes can be kept comfortably in a tub setup, then as adults any of the commercial PVC cages offered will work well.
WERE DID YOU YOUR CORN SNAKES?
My first two I got off of a family friend.
My albino I received from my work after he hatched out from the adults that bred there.

Think it’s ok to get a corn snake from petco?
If you can avoid it, do so.
Otherwise most corn snakes from big-box pet shops typically do alright.
@@AlexsAgamids that’s the only place around me that sells corn snakes. Is something wrong w pet o corn snakes?
Generally snakes maintained in larger pet shops are not always in the best condition as far as care goes.
So you could possibly be paying for a sick snake that isn't too well off.
It may be easier to wait till the spring/summer and order a corn snake from a breeder and have it shipped to you.
@Baise Duezcke Those snakes come from pet mills. So technically if you “save” the snake, they’re just gonna order a new one from the pet mill. (For those who don’t know what pet mills are, they’re these buildings where many animals are mass breeded and treated awfully, left to sit in tiny boxes almost all of their lives.) I reccomend not buying from big box pet stores, because the more people buy, the more pet mills will grow and get money, the less likely they are to stop.
Hi I wanted to buy a corn snake but I keep seeing ppl either have a heating matt in there enclosure or a heating lamp I just wanted to know which one would be better?
It truly depends on what’s easiest for you to setup. I have snakes with heat pads and I have snakes with overhead heat.
Heating lamp, got a lots of problems with heating matt cause of their poor made quality.
@@Foreverceltic it was from zoomed officially branded. All heating mat are same made, and it's shit. You have to be a handyman to understand.
Is the thermostat 100% needed? I’m not sure because I haven’t had a snake before
Thermostats are 100% needed. Without them, running heat sources at full power is a MAJOR fire hazard.
As for enclosure size. I’d say the minimum for one adult corn snake is anything measuring 36”x18”x12” in size. Bigger is always better! The adult enclosures used in the video are 36”x24”x24”!
I've never caged a corn snake,
Forst
That thermostat brand is $$$$ not affordable -
Worth the money for the sake of investing in the stability of your heat source(s) running and safety of your snake.
I’ve heard of too many cases where a heat pad runs at full power because the “affordable” thermostats fail and thus apply full power to the heating element.
I’m thankful to say I’ve had my snakes going on 13 years now and I’ve never had an issue with heating elements due to a proper thermostat.
Sure I could “go cheap”, but in my opinion, it’s not worth cutting costs at the risk of loosing the animal.
They don’t need lights . A heat mat is fine . They don’t need uv
@@CGC_14corn snakes do not need uv lightening to survive. For overall health, uv lights assist with your snake's wellbeing.
@@tlang3548 Ohh okay. If I just have the enclosure near a window will that still be good light for the snake?
@@CGC_14 take your tank far away from the window! You have good intention but do not do that, you will do a greenhouse effect and your snake might die bcs it's to hot. If u want to provide UV to your snake you better use a lamp my friend :)
I work at a pet store I'm a dog trainer and pretty much an expert in aquatics. But I fell head-over-heels for one of our corn snakes and I had to bring him home. Unfortunately my reptile knowledge is kind of limited so I'm glad there's a channel with good info about corn snakes since I kind of feel like they're underappreciated
Hope you get one soon
Cool story bro..
