I have used the "Paint from Reference" in order to do things like make family portraiture for household walls, even going and visiting other sims so I can paint cute family poses and then giving the portrait as a gift! The camera on the cell phone is also great for taking family photos for the wall. It's a great way to keep track of my legacy families for future generations.
My sim's wife is a stay at home mom painter. I've been considering having her get the career as a painter, although at this point it seems almost redundant because she already is level 9 painting with just 1 masterpiece left to make. Confident paintings have been working really well for her.
It's worth it for the equipment in my opinion. She should breeze through the career, and you can then use the inspired auras the equipment provides to level other creative skills. It's pretty good stuff if you go Master of the Real. OH yeah you'll get sell to art gallery as well, which is +20% and normally only available when you paint a masterpiece. Lots more money from going career. I should make another video :)
If you have Get to Work, I'd recommend opening a painting shop and selling them at a 100% markup. My sim lives onsite and just nips down to the shop to finalise purchases, then closes the shop to spend a a few days creating new paintings to mark up. Huge returns if you paint from new each time.
....or you just make a club that focuses on painting and sell their paintings... that also makes you get tons of club points to buy the moodlet bonus you want so its even easier to do expensive paintings.
for me its just easier to become a musician to get the 7 inspiring mood piano. then if you want quit and just put the easel near the piano. that plus any other inspiring mood act is enough to let you do any paintings you want. I usually do that too because just focusing on painting from the start makes you earn too much money and this makes the game bland faster unless you have twins and make them go to college on a loan.
If you have a materialistic sim, they can use the 'Admire New Possession' interaction on the painting after it is finished to get the 3+ Happy moodlet.
Painting is so OP as a income generator I tend to avoid it just because it makes the game so easy, you can literally start in your beginner house, buy an easel, and within a couple days be making far more than you could at any career. Then when you get your skill up a bit, purchase some inspiration boosting items and you'll be cranking out excellent and masterpiece works that sell for thousands. Then if you REALLY want to break the game, grind some aspiration points and get Marketable and Creative Visionary, which doubles the sell prices of your paintings and doubles your rate of masterpiece works, respectively. Then if you REALLY, REALLY, want to break the game more, add the Natural Light and Home Studio attributes to your home. With all these, at max level you can crank out 10 paintings a day, that are mostly masterpieces and typically sell from $8,000 to $12,000 a pop, yes it's possible to make $100,000 in a day and never leave the house.
The digital sketchpad makes the painter aspiration easier, it takes less than one sim hour to finish a painting. However, it seems like you can't make a mood based painting on it (at least it won't let me on Xbox one).
Im at level 10 painting skill and i bought the trait that helps your sim paint masterpieces yet some paintings will be worth 1000 bucks and some will be worth like 200 bucks.
All of my sims paint, for me it is the way to make money I have them paint and paint till they have money to buy a nice home .I did this in sims 3 as well.
Yes - Marketable is huge and I should have mentioned it! I focused too hard on the aspiration toward the end and let it slip. This is one of the main purposes of marketable. It basically doubles the base value of paintings.
I normally take Perfectionist over Outdoors etc to get the sim higher quality work (e.g. masterpiece) more often. I also take Cheerful over Creative, as the random Happy (vs Inspired) moodlet doesn't mess with my sim when I'm trying to keep them in a different mood (e.g. doing emotional paintings). If the Sim has Inspired from anywhere, a big stack of Happiness will get it to Very Inspired. My only problem is the Confident moodlet from creating a masterpiece. This means I have to have a higher Inspiration buff to overshadow it, but Brain Boosting yoga with Evocative lemon Incense usually do the job.
A little thing I discovered the realm of magic DLC has to spell rapero or something like that. That can be used on a large number of stuff including paintings to improve their quality to excellent even before the painting is even finished. It only goes up to excellent I think. It works on other things as well but for the current theme video, they don't really matter. Just a little information I discovered on my own that I found interesting.
If u got the Get Famous pack then those skill potions really come in handy- my sim is already at level 10 and became famous off of selling paintings 👍🏻
You can also use the city living painter's tape murals to level up painting skill without having to pay for canvases when you won't gain money off your paintings
Honestly, painting is just broken. I just created a new sim in a new lot, and with the proper setup, you can start making hundreds of thousands in mere minutes. My main sim is in the culinary career and he makes a fraction of the money my painter sim does.
Hey Debora. This video came out a couple months before Style Influencer, which brought the tablet you're talking about. My video about making money super fast uses the tablet, which is practically an exploit: ua-cam.com/video/nkxauP9XPhM/v-deo.html
Rather someone relaxed sounding than all the annoyingly hyper simmers who sound like they've just downed 3 Red Bulls. Which is why him and LGR do my favourite Sims youtube videos.

Heather Morgan yeah i wish they had the paint portrait option on the easel though. Because getting sims posed in position is hard.
thanks you 👍
i like the "loner" trait for my painters so I can paint all day without my need for social dropping.
Zenon genius
Me too
Good idea
Just like in real life....
I just hate that the plumbob stays red and it makes me anxious even though they're fine 😂

Carl's The Sims Guides Oooh those benefits sound pretty amazing. I'll probably have her do it soon.
The painting career makes it much easier to do masterpieces and you'll be able to sell to art gallery which doubles the profit
Paint by reference is a cool ass feature in this game
It was a feature even in Sims 2.

Want to live an easy life?.
1st. Be a vampire
2nd. Child of the moon
3rd. Inspiring stuff and creative visionary trait
4th. Profit
This literally my main sim lol
Vampire is a god 🤣
That's a reason to love the Vampires.

Came back to this when needing to reference it - amazing how much your audio quality and narration have improved - nice job Carl!

Great video. Is the marketable trait any good for painting? I always see people buying it in LPS but I thought that was for woodworking?
Yes - Marketable is huge and I should have mentioned it! I focused too hard on the aspiration toward the end and let it slip. This is one of the main purposes of marketable. It basically doubles the base value of paintings.
Thanks! Glad I asked.
It's for anything you craft
Him: You can move the easel inside and out if it starts to rain or gets to hot

It won’t let me paint when she is tense or frustrated
Classic paintings are the best
My sim painted the Dancing Bunny
Thanks this helped alot.. I just activated the cheats to reverse my sims age from elder & was also able to change aspirations traits to copy yours. 👍
Great video!
Do paintings raise in value after the painter had died?
This was a rumor in The Sims 3 but I never saw it happening.
Fantastic thank you
How many paintings are there in the pie? We are up to 319. The graphics tab has some too. Does anyone know the exact number? :D
How do I unlock better easels? I thought I had to become a level 8 painter, but the other easels are still locked
The devs: expect people to use paint by reference to make unique landscape paintings
Me: uses it to paint nkd people to create a ‘purity gallery’ 👀😳
My sim is great at classic paintings
wish they had skill based paintings like in sims 3
How do I complete the view 3 paintings in a museum. Where do I find a museum??
is there a way do download the paintings my sim painted?
You can use sketchbook to make paiting 4x faster
Is that part of the base game
I tried making a kid paint but couldn't!! I thought we could 😟

For me, it never gives me the option to do an emotional painting even when I have an emotion on. It just won't. I don't understand.
