The three biggest examples of Tokusatsu franchises are Kamen Rider, Ultraman and Super Sentai (which is more popularly adapted in the US as Power Rangers)
Another similar yet criminally underrated series worth checking out is _Guyver._ It's like a gritty & more darker alternative take on the japanese superhero/tokusatsu genre with dramatic & tragic twist. Storyline, themes & characters are also solid too imo
That's why I love tokusatsu, it can be dark and serious as well as just outright ridicules all at the same time and without breaking characters or story, it really is all at once and just epic

Tokusetsu Shows were often influenced by Psychedelia to a degree,so some of the weirdness here is likely just playing to the audiance. The later stuff also sometimes just being camp or self satire. Tokusetsu was muchmore self aware than the more commonly seen japanese medium of today (anime).
That kind of Grease Gun is special prop called flash paper guns. Instead of shooting blank metallic shells flash paper guns use specialty fireworks charge.
What I love about Kamen Rider Kabuto is how serious it is most of the time, only for it to throw that tone out of the window at the most random ass times for something like we see at 0:55 xD
