I HATE their 79 last. But I do love their new 56 last. It is perfect, and fits perfect a half size down from brannock. I am a 12E, and an 11.5EE fit perfect.
@@mandalorianactual1215 ya I saw a post shared on Reddit that apparently Truman had on their IG. It compared the 79 to the 56. Seems the 56 has more big toe and little toe room. Could solve the problems of the 79.
@ oh it does. I had a 79 last that I had to order true to size-ish. I had to get a 12EE and it just felt miserable and clunky because the 11.5EE didn’t fit well. But the 56 last fixes all of those issues and the 11.5EE fits perfect. It reminds me almost of a parkhurst last.
I've got the same pain with most boots -- no idea why so many boot brands make ball width quite generous but want to pinch our toebox. Alden 379x last has round and generous toebox, which is my best fit so far.
Sounds like if you're not giving up, hearing your thoughts on the 56 last would be great. Based on what you described with length, it would sound like the 56 would be a better bet with Truman.
You know what's weird, I've found when you get the 79 last with a toe cap, it feels larger than the same size without the toe cap. I'm agree though, the 20 last is way better.
@@bladecentered2264 that’s interesting. My experience with cap toes on other brands, is they often feel smaller because the extra layer is restricting. I definitely find my Viberg 310’s with a cap toe feeling more restricting than my plain toe pair. I’ve seen people say the same about Nicks. Curious, does Truman do a real cap toe, where it’s two pieces of leather stacked, or is it a false cap toe like dress shoes, where they sew on a seperate piece at tip of vamp, but it’s not two layers? I know old Truman’s had false cap toes. Grant Stone does this as well. Unsure about current Truman cap toes though.
@@bladecentered2264 how do you size your 20’s versus 79’s? They suggest to size the same, but that can’t be right. The 79 seems noticeable shorter in the toe box because it’s such an almond toe. I do sometimes wonder how the 20 Last would fit if I ordered a 12 (what I wear in sneakers) instead of 11.5 (my brannock size).
@ that could partially explain the comfort. Then again I’d still expect them to feel same as plain toe, but not tighter like true cap toes sometimes feel.
@@EDHBlvd I do get the same size in both (11.5), but prefer the 20 a lot more because of the roomier toe box. You should try a 12 in 79, you'd probably like it, I've tried 12s in the 79 before because my heal to ball brannock is 12 (heal to toe is 11.5), but it was a little too much space in the front for me.
I am afraid I too have to concede that the 79 last just not work for me, I have tried 4 different size/width combinations, all of them squish my pinkies, I can't get the right balance of length, width etc..... shame aesthetics and leathers are awesome
@@paulterry8373 you are right about the aesthetics/leathers. If Truman had an amazing Last I would exclusively buy from them. However I feel the 20 is their only good Last and it’s honestly mediocre-good. The 79 is terrible. The old C-55 was terrible. Jury is still out on the new 56.
@@EDHBlvd Agreed, for me the best fitting last's are White's 55 and OSB Elston. The OSB I can wear all day, but their arch support sucks compared to White's.
