Technical point I noticed: Raj, as an Indian, couldn't have got on that plane to Switzerland at the last minute unless he already had a long-term multiple-entry visa for the Schengen Zone (most of continental Europe). Indians can't enter Switzerland without applying for a visa beforehand.
Well as a researcher he probably have to travel to academic events, and it’s quite likely he already has a multi-entry visa.
He could have applied ahead of time, as per the chance of visiting the Colider.
