    I would run them to a Hotwire and install a manual switch. That way you don't have to have your vehicle in Reverse to have the benefit of the lighting.

      I didn’t have the wiring or switch handy when I did this and was pressed for time to get it completed. I should have mentioned in the video that I can also turn them on and off momentarily with the key FOB with the ignition off when needed. They will stay on for 20-30 seconds when the unlock FOB button is pressed.

    Just installed these tonight on my 1998 F250, the reverse wire to my 7-pin harness was a different color, but finding it online was easy. Thank you for sharing this, it was way easier wiring it up the way you showed in the video. Much appreciation!🤙

    Scotch locks should never be used where they are exposed to the elements.

    • @larryvergon6740
      @larryvergon6740 Рік тому +2

      Agree. I lost a rear light in my truck and found the wire had broken off at (in) the Scotch lock where the metal connector pierced the insulation and connected the two wires together. The Scotch Lock was used to connect a trailer wiring harness to the truck. Now, it lasted for 3-4 years, but I was in Florida with no snow, ice, slush, or road salt. I have a LOT of Scotch Locks in my electrical 'stash' cause they come with all kinds of wiring devices and I won't use them any more, but my mind won't let me throw them away.

    Thank you for your video. Very articulate and annunciated well!
    I’m working on this little project. Hopefully finish up in the coming days.
    I had to do some work to get the bracket to fit however. The welding on the hitch created extra effort. I couldn’t quite get the two bracket pieces to reach one another, but enough to get the bolts to mate with the bottom piece. Caveman ingenuity and effort was required.
    Now to mount the lights and complete the wiring.

    Nice! I’m guessing you chose to put the lights on top of the bar, but I’m assuming you can just turn the way you mounted them upside down so the lights are on the bottom of the bar as opposed to the top? I’m also guessing you did it that way either because you felt they’d stick out like a sore thumb if you mounted them below, or you mounted them above in order to protect them from road debris? Thanks brother!

    • @baldeagle242
      @baldeagle242  9 місяців тому +2

      That is correct. They are designed to mount underneath but I chose to flip them around to keep them up out of the way and less obvious. Either way these are nice bright lights and work very well for when backing up in the dark.

    I do not agree with the scotch lock connector, when I wired my reverse lights on my pick up to took the trailer plug apart and “D” pinned the reverse pin out of the plug, that way heat shrink can be slipped over the wire. Then I split the wire insulation, solder the wire then heat shrink, that way winter weather cannot infiltrate the connection. I tried that light bracket but I found it very difficult to attach the trailer safety chains. Those scotch locks are garbage.
