I'm a former New Yorker and I still loved the details, the written cards, and how you broke it down. Having lived in Ireland, and speaking standard English for so many years now, this review is priceless for an upcoming audition. Thank you, Thank you, thank you! Diana
I'm from Texas and so the accent is thick and am working on a film where my lines will fit into a New York setting. Thanks for these great videos on New York accents.
Alan StandsAlone it is hard to get rid of the Twang at times. I was raised in Oklahoma so I was taught to drop my accent but my twang comes out like a hurricane when I get excited. Go to Maine to hear a beautiful accent.
Just 4 boys in the basement chillin playing dnd there was lucas there was willy will and Dustin there was a mike but one night will goes missing while he's riding on his bike YIKES that's when they met me eleven.
Hi Ivan, I find this course so perfect. You have done a fine job organizing it with minimum complication nor complexity. You are just the person I was looking for. I live in France. Nice work and thank you!
Thank you for this video. I was born and raised in Southern California. Growing up I said one word like a Boston person. And that word was wash. My mom was born in San Jose. Her mom was born in Washington State. I don't know why my mom added and r to "wash" When she spoke it sounded like "worsh" I said "wash" like a person from Boston. I told my mom when she was in her 30s...I was 10.... "there is no r in wash...so why would I was worsh?" I always said wash with an a. Ever since the age of about twenty I had an interest in the accent of New Yorkers. Now I have time to look into this because I just put my dog down on Monday. Thank you for doing this video. I find it fascinating
I am not an actor nor do I care to be one but, I always fancied myself good with accents and my friends always ask me to do one of my alter egos. I love your videos so much!! They have taught me I wasn’t as good as I thought and well, my friends may not be the smartest group but , hey they are easy to please . Thanks to your videos I can do Better accents and have a a new group of friends , smart friends ....
These are incredibly useful! I've been watching them and learning so much about the accent! Do you think you could do one to help differentiate the "Th" vs "Dh" sound, as in "with" vs "widh" like you used in the beginning of the video around 0:30? I'm not entirely sure when to drop the hard th in lieu of the softer dh. Thanks a bunch!!
"We've made it to the end of the video" Video: at halfway point. Thanks for these videos! Working on getting the accent down for a character I'm running in a game; fun thing is that technically, the character is also faking the accent, lol
These are so helpful! You’re accent tutorials are the best I can find and easy to study/work on. I watch these so I can learn different voices to do for my speech pieces and gosh I love them!
General American accents really annoy me but my god do I LOVE New York and Boston accents. As an Australian there are some pronounciations I can relate to, and the accents are so charming and fall easily on my ears. I'd love to visit New York one day.
Thanks for the quick NY accent refresher lesson.. lol, I have an audition today and they want a NY accent..After living in Nashville for the last three years from LA, It helped. Many thanks!
I get my New Yorker accent by listening the main actors from Person of Interest, be best New Yorkers are there, like John Reese , Finch, and the best of them: Detective Fusco !
What a wonderful job, such neat performance, you are a great teacher thanks helping out through my own lessons about varieties of English accents which I need to copy from time to time to give my students a brief sound illustration. Can't wait to hear more from you Ivan:)
Yo Eyevin! As a Brawnxite, and a New Yawker in general I'm happy to know that people that speak like you and me awe still around, and owa accent hasn't gawn to da boids.
Well there are a lot of people that commute between Jersey and Manhattan on a daily basis, since it's right over the river. So i guess there's a lot of cross-pollination.
My father was born and raised in da Bronx. My mother was born and raised in Joisy City, so you cam imagine what my accent sounds like. Someone told me they thought I was from Philadelphia. Only time I was there was when I was a kid and we had a class trip to the zoo. BTW, I grew up in Neptune, NJ.
The dropping the R easy - the rest I’ll leave up to the natives and the motivated and or talented. I love your. Ideo so much tho- you are entertaining and informative . Thank you
Second lenguage learners have it easy to learn pronunciation, specially Hispanic that learnt english here. I have the words pronounciation but not the accent and that's hard but it's possible
So many people using this accent to act 😀. However, has there ever been a person who got influenced by the accent and just decided to talk it full time?
Amazing job!!! Esp. In comparison to other videos! I’m a New Yorker, born and raised (southern Brooklyn), what’s interesting about my accent is that I actually don’t drop my “R’s”, but I do however annunciate the “aw” sound, as you described. My NY accent is automatically noticed, but I’ve been often told that it is less severe. 👍🇺🇸💕
That is usually the distinction berween a NY and a NJ accent. In Wisconsin people want to hear my Northern NJ accent, but clearly think I'm not doing it right, so I watch these videos to practice. It's very funny listening to people who aren't from New York (or NJ) drop all of their R's - even the ones in the middle!
No. Neither do you drop the r at the end of a word if the next word begins with a vowel. Example: My Father is a cop. You would pronounce the r at the end of Father there.
as soon as he goes to the new york accent you feel threatened lol
I felt threatened in the intro, sounded like a Don delivering a speech 😂
Lol

When I hear this New York accent, I can't help but to think about Joe Pesci in one of his maffia roles.
That’s a Jersey accent. He’s not from NY.

Out of all the accent videos, this one is my favorite.
To an English man the new York accent sounds like the hoodlum and the Boston accent sounds like the detective who is interrogating him 😂
Great coach... I pray iI can hired him
The thing is, the text itself is so completely New York...
So many people using this accent to act 😀. However, has there ever been a person who got influenced by the accent and just decided to talk it full time?
I’m in a musical in New York and I need to get the accent down, thanks, still needs a bit of practice though
