  • WHY would you ever trade your Jeep Rubicon for a Jeep Sport S? I did... and in this video, I explain why. It's more of a motor thing because of the Ecodiesel.
    We are also introducing you to a trailer we want to take off road for family trips.

    Congratulations on your new ride! Since you have connections with Epic, can’t blame you for the route you chose. Having owned Jeeps since 2004, I learned quickly that buying a basic model, then upgrading it later is definitely not cheaper. Labor alone will eat your lunch. This time I bought a 2023 Gladiator Rubicon Ecodiesel. While there will be upgrades later, it’s pretty well equipped from the factory, and has a warranty. You might want to save any deleted hardware in case regulations change in your area. These parts are incredibly expensive otherwise.

    • @UnwindingRoads
      @UnwindingRoads  Рік тому +3

      Absolutely. If I did delete I would definitely keep the parts just in case 😁 the rubicon transfer case is a bit deal I think. Especially with these ecodiesels. They have the power for sure I'd rather just have the rpms up a little bit. What do you think?

    @JEEP-N-DIRT Рік тому +2

    I think the part of being more expensive building vs buying is subjective depending on the skill level and resourcefulness of the "jeep" person. Agree it can be more expensive assuming someone else is doing the work especially in this "post covid" world of mark ups, parts shortages, and all the other excuses. That said, if the "jeep" person is doing their own work then it's possible to save a significant amount. Example: A person buys a JLU sport S at todays price of roughly $40k that includes like the 24S option package or something similar. They sell their existing axles and are resourceful enough (and have patience), they'll likely find someone selling wide track M210/M220 rubi axles at a great price which means it will have 4.10 gears and lockers. As for transfer case factory pricing is actually half the cost of an Atlas if bought new from MOPAR online. Add all that up and the only thing missing is leather seats (which you can do a Katskin upgrade), the highline fenders (which aren't that expensive to buy separately or just go to an aftermarket fender anyway), and the electronic sway bar disconnect (which is cool, but something else to worry about later down the road, or you have to air down anyway so why not just have a manual disconnect or an AntiRock). As you mentioned the aftermarket switch panel looks factory and has several more switches than the OEM Rubicon so other than that you've built a Rubicon. I mentioned all this because a close friend of mine loves my set up as seen on my channel jeepNdirt and is looking to get into a JT after having spent 18 years in his LJ. We recently went online, practiced with online jeep builder tool and then sourced the items I mentioned above here in Georgia (USA) and came up about $12K to $15K cheaper than buying the Rubicon in today's market every time we went in. Funny thing is, the MOPAR parts website shows Rubi axles pretty inexpensive but there are several part numbers that you really have to sort through to make sure you're comparing apples to apples. But as the guy mentions below, if the work is being done by a shop then absolutely, the labor will eat up that difference.

    • @Good-luck-Jonathan
      @Good-luck-Jonathan 2 місяці тому

      @@UnwindingRoads It is the best out of he ECU tunes but to stop the smoke, you would need Martin who makes the tune "FINE" tuning to get it right. Now for the guy that wants to delete they have no choice but to do do it with an ECU flash but 1000% person you, your wife and kids are inhaling soot and nitrogen oxides which is highly carcinogenic. It's a considerable risk unfortunately and lots of good studies on lab rats on it and humans. To bad there is no free lunch in this. What some do is do a tune and turn EGR off for that aspect and let the DPF burn the soot. The big rigs are using Pittsburg Power Fuel Catalyst. That BURNS it all and keeps everything looking new! Even with the EGR on it looks new! You have to see the posts with the big rigs on it. The other item is the catch can. That solves most issues alone.

    • @Good-luck-Jonathan
      @Good-luck-Jonathan 2 місяці тому +1

      @@UnwindingRoads Unfortunately you would need to have Martin do a "Fine" tune to get the richness out of a tune. A prefect tune should NOT smoke but that can only be done with a fine tune on each truck. Can't do that for all, so everyone gets the same tune. This is were the Banks Derringer shines over the ECU tune. It keeps AF to exact stock but of coarse that doesn't matter much to some especially for a full deleted truck. Now I love the idea of deleting but keep in mind soot and nitrogen oxides are highly carcinogenic. To you and everyone around like the wife and kids. Lots of good studies with lab rats and humans on it. One option I was thinking is to do the EGR only but there is a way to keep that clean with it on. You run a catch can and use Pittsburgh Power Fuel Catalyst. It burns soot and keeps it all clean. The big rig guys run it and love it with some running over 400k no DPF or EGR issues anymore. You would need to join thier groups to read there postings.

      @@Good-luck-Jonathan I'm not interested in a fool device. Everyone would be running the same tune designed for most people. So I figure I fall into that category. As you can see in the video there's no black smoke. This is just hearsay but I've heard thst grass no longer grows along side California hwys from the ammonia coming from the trucks running def. That said I'm sure without any doubt there's things that are very unhealthy about that as well. Heck even the Ev vehicles put out a ton of radiation. @Good-luck-Jonathan 2 місяці тому +1

      @@UnwindingRoads I know it's not for everyone but services a purpose for some of us but I willing to bet that you get less smoke with it then a full tune due to how it uses the OBD port for data on adjusting the AF. There is black smoke! What do you mean no black smoke? It's not rolling coal type smoke but it's there for sure. Look at 25:24 mark under the tow tune. You see nice smoke on take off and during shifts. That is wasted fuel. Then at the 40whp tune at 26:30 your blowing a lot of smoke man. That why If you can fine tune it with Martin who made the tune, that would be the best if possible. The 80whp tune is awesome power but must smoke like crazy since it is not fine tuned. Never herd or seen that on the hwys here but ammonia is not what comes out. The SCR coverts it to harmless nitrogen. Interesting just saw this vid. ua-cam.com/video/PEtJswdHWjA/v-deo.html Yea it would need a deep study on EMF on the body. They also strip mine the planet for lithium and ignore that damage to the earth. Here in cali we now have renewable diesel. Made with mostly soy oil and it's good stuff. Less smoke and high cetane. They might expand it all over. Let see. BTW what are you getting L/KM on the gauge with your current setup and what tune do you use normally?

I'm blessed to live close so I'm in the woods (day trips) probably 50 times a year. I'd guess half a dozen timers a year the roads aren't passable. My trucks get hard use.
      Thanks and best of luck in your travels!

      Because the banks fuel rail booster only makes 5whp when dynod.
      I wanted ACTUAL performance gains, with proper fuel timing pre and post injection, without pushing my HPFP beyond its capabilities. As well as fuel economy gains. And reduced EGT temps and reduced engine temps. Banks doesnt change timing parameters, all it does is juice up fuel rail pressure but doesn't change any of the actual properties required for a clean burning performance gain. That (expensive maintenance) is only one reason I didn't want a diesel (or anything turbo) -- mine (2021 Gladiator Rubicon) has the V6 Pentastar gas engine. No regrets.
      Also, I wanted something "Rubicon like" so instead of "going cheap" trying to make a lower trim into a Rubicon, I GOT a Rubicon right up front. Even if a lower-trim "Rubicon upgrades" ($$$$ as you noted) DID equal a Rubicon performance-wise, it'd STILL not be a Rubicon and wouldn't sell as well (resale vale) as a real Rubicon would. I just didn't have the inclination to mess with all that nonsense: Get what you want right up front, as-is from the factory -- with complete factory warranty on everything as well -- and be done with it.
