Always the same comments when it comes to Mal Young. I want to know from you guys why? Can you give a statement of the subject or are you all just repeating what others have said a 1000 times before?
@@wolfgangmarkusgstrein8522 are you referring to those who say hes the greatest rhythm guitar player ever? Or me who said he wasn't? I think there are a lot of die hard ACDC fans who dont really have a wide knowledge of other bands and players. They like them because you can always count on ACDC to make an ACDC kioe album. Malcolm is cool but theres so many better out there.
There it is....man that fuckin' riff goes off !..,.one of the most naturally gifted , toughest , tightest , smoothest and most ferocious of soul and tone driven masters of rock 'n roll rythym guitarists in history . Thankyou Malcolm.
Guitarist is not a rhythm section component. It's bass and drums, so that duo would be Neil Peart and Geddy Lee. Mal was the greatest rhythm guitarist, that part is true.
The way he attacks those strings is unbeliavable. You can feel him destroying them, for moments sounds like if it was going to explode. This is a fantastiv lesson for any aspiring guitar player.
Mal used extra heavy picks. I saw an interview with Angus where he said that the floor around Mal would be littered with pieces of all of the picks that he would shred during a show.
I think he is unquestionably the best for one simple reason, and that's the fact that the bands riffs and overall tone is so instantly recognizable, and stayed the same all through the decades. Mal is the reason when an AC/DC song starts playing, you instantly know who it is.
Fascinating to hear thinking this is played live, not built up in the studio. How Malcolm pushes ahead then steps back, going from the 5ths power chords to adding in the higher 3rds later then backing off again, muting, going full open, all while interacting with each bandmate in the song, there’s so much going on here. Just amazing.
And people say that their music is simple, they obviously know nothing about music to think that . I consider Malcolm to be one of the greatest composers not just a brilliant guitarist
Goosebumps from the get go. Perfect tone, perfect strum power, perfect palm mute "thunks" in between chords (1:10 - 1:27). Thanks for the Master Class, Mal!
During the part that starts at 3:13, seems like he follows Angus rather than keeping time with Slade. There are other times in these isolated Malcolm clips where that seems to be the case. It would be great to hear isolated tracks where Rudd is present. Would probably click with a lot of people as to why Phil is the band’s real groove.
It's well known by now, but I'm still fascinated every time I hear how clean his tone is. The first assumption would be this would be heavily distorted, but presumably it's basically the amp really cranked up, no other effects. Shows how much a good player can get out of not so much sophisticated gear.
@@chrisrobinson8163 I wouldn't say worst, it's different. I had always the feeling there's just a little too much gain, but it's still great. I don't like the mix of the Live album tho, the DVD from Donigton sounds much better
@@chrisrobinson8163 I kinda like it. It complements the Razors Edge Album well. I will admit the higher gain tone doesn't work for some songs but it sounds great in this one, especially Malcoms part

Malcom was so heavy with his attack yet it was also so precise at the same time. Just look at his guitar, it looks pristine. I feel like if I was playing that hard I’d leave pick scratches on the finish from where I’m hitting the body.
Bass and drums are traditionally thought of as the rhythm section in a rock band. Not when Malcolm Young is your rhythm guitarist. That is an absolute masterclass in how to drive a rock song.
Malcolm and this vid are so inspiring. I have been playing similar to Mal for years and not realizing it. I play 11's and attack the strings with percussive strumming. He plays 12s and is all about the rhythm and tone.
Could you isolated river plate malcolm young thunderstruck ? Please Sorry for my English but I really want to hear that concert isolated with his vocals
I think this is the only tour he played through Mesa boogie equipment. You can see the cabs behind him. I read somewhere he was playing through Mesa mark 3 heads. He's known for playing through old Marshall super bass and lead heads. I noticed from the ballbreaker tour forward he has a cleaner sound.
Thought Angus was the one messing with boogie gear on this tour his tone definitely wasn't marshal at all .. I think Malcolm was already messing with wizard heads and the usual super bass and plexis
@@Diesel0807 I know because the Cabs behind Malcolm say Messa Boggie and I saw an interview with a former Rodie who worked with AC/DC and confrimed that on the 91 tour they used Messa Cabs both Angus and Malcolm but the Heads were still Marshall

Enough said brother!!!! Mal lives on in these riff masterpieces
This riff, this particular one, shows how violent he could get. I mean, right from the get go, it's pure violence...
Watching Mal just go berserk on any live performance of shoot to thrill is captivating and a show in and of itself

Holy shit, that Gretsch sure is a Beast of a guitar to take a beating like this every night. No wonder Mal used to need dozens of picks every show.

His rhythm guitar playing will live for years to come…..he set the bar on how it should be done. The best.
Absolute perfection from the greatest rhythm guitarist ever, The Late Malcolm Young (R.I.P).
