Ankit, you have a visa to enter the Schengen area, but this visa is not valid in Romania because Romania is not part of this area. You can check on the Internet the conditions for granting a visa for Romania at the Romanian embassy in India. Two of these conditions require: 1. a firm reservation at a tourist accommodation unit in Romania and the itinerary of the trip in Romania; 2. proof of means of maintenance in the amount of 50 euros/day for the entire period, but not less than 500 euros. For this reason at the border you were asked to present these things. In addition, you entered Romania from Serbia. Serbia is on the route of illegal migration from the Middle East to Europe. The officials at the border with Serbia cannot afford to make mistakes. It is good for you that you were not refused entry to Romania. For citizens of certain countries, an invitation from Romanian institutions or Romanian citizens can be requested. Things are even more complicated in this case.
1997 - I entered from Hungary to Romania, in a Western European (BMW) car, the Hungarian border officer looked at me & then at car & said, "This car, Romania, no go", I asked "Why?" & his answer was "Romania police ask money every 20 kilometres". I later on regretted my decision of ignoring that officer. By next 60 kilometres I was stopped 4 times and each time they milked us pretty all our cash & in the last stop the guys even took our cigarettes. That was the point I took a U-turn and went back to Hungary, leaving Romania was another story, they wasted our two hours only asking question why going back so soon? Never went to Romania by car after that. I have heard since EU things at Romanian borders have got a lot better but still my experience from 1997 tells me, No, only fly to Romania.

You talk about 25 years ago, roads now are much better in Romania in Hungary and Hungary has a problem of corruption at border. Serbia way more, and even Bulgaria some.

Romania is known for corruption , but not all officers are the same of course! I would never go anywhere near such East European countries by car, or motorbike. By Air is the safest! But then they always ask for confirmed hotel reservations, even here at Belgian airports where I live
