- This bank holiday weekend saw Safedem demolish the 30-storey building at Birnie Court and was brought down in five seconds during a controlled explosion.
This was the second tower block out of eight to be removed at Glasgow's Red Road.
Hundreds gathered to watch the demolition of the building, which took five seconds and about 88kg of explosives to reduce the tower to 10,000 tonnes of debris.
The remaining six condemned blocks at Red Road are to be demolished by 2017 as part of a Glasgow Housing Association (GHA) regeneration project.
I am stunned by the huge number of these sort of buildings coming down in the UK. A bet there is a controversial history behind all this.
You are correct, they were built very bad and the workers didnt put things together correctly because it saved time, the quicker they could do the job the more they earned and thought it was good enough to hold together but started to fall apart and get damp/moldy in about 10 years.
Of course there is. Their were rife with crime, drugs and violence. If you check the history of whatever public housing project in the Western world you will find the same story.
That was very close to the houses, did they demolish the houses too I wonder?
