  • Do you have a few too many glasses of wine? Crack open a 6-pack of beer every time you watch a game on TV? Do you smoke weed or take prescription medications, like benzodiazepines, to help you get through your day? Or did you overdo it with alcohol or drugs in the past? It’s no surprise that substance use is harmful to your brain. But is that harm permanent? Or can you heal your brain even if you’ve been bad to it?
That’s a question actor, singer, dancer @FrankieJGrande had when he visited Amen Clinics for a brain SPECT scan for an episode of Scan My Brain. By the time he was 24 years old, he had already been dealing with an addiction to alcohol, but he also started “dabbling in other substances.” According to the entertainer, “It was a very slow ramp-up to where it was out of control,” he says to Dr. Daniel Amen in the episode.
It got to a point where the entertainer thought, “It’s time to make a change, otherwise you’re going to be dead.” Fortunately, he chose life. After 4 years of sobriety, he wondered if his SPECT scan would reveal a brain ravaged by his past substance abuse. The results surprised him.

Thanks Frankie for doing this. So articulate and intelligent. It means a lot to those who understand the significance. Cellular and molecular biologist have been screaming for years but we get gaslighted when we speak up, thanks for punching the stigma for us. We won’t stop screaming until we start treating the brain like every other organ. That means using imaging techniques and health checks.

Odd, Ive heard v’d affected outside the lungs when breakthroughs happen, and after v’d. Notice the “science” and what “they say” keeps changing...and likely always will.

Awesome information. Say adios to ANTS and thank our brain for doing its job before we become self-aware. Thank you, Dr. Amen.
Reframing and questioning everything because I know that I am not my freakin' thoughts and changing old beliefs that is no longer working for us now.

So true…at least at amen clinic. There is a large trauma world out there that has seminars etc where you can learn mass info..
Nothing against amen clinic but for us who are not rich n famous, but I hope for the world chooses to seek help with their trauma brains before they let the system screw them up with meds meds n more meds.
Wisdom of trauma; body keeps the score. Good luck and Godspeed to everyone on your journey to healing and connection/communion. 🙏✌🏼❤️🌸
