@@mikejulson682 I’m sorry but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Rotopax or had a chance to try. I’m hopefully picking one up in a few weeks so will see how that works after that. My initial thought is around the extra weight high up though, and that you’d have to take the bag off to fill and use the Rotopax fuel. I’ll see what works, but it’ll be February before I’m back home and able to try it out. Apologies
Excellent, on the basis of your review I’ve ordered one. I’ve got the H2C rack on my 300 Rally but love the look of the RR rack but more importantly I can continue to secure my XL Blizzards and also my sausage fingers won’t have to struggle with those spacers. Much appreciated, keep up the good work👍
@@thatoneguy2756 I looked at that, but the recessed fixing on the Moose strap doesn’t work like that. I could just put it between the rack and the spacers, but it rubs, and isn’t free to move. I could also put it between the frame and the spacer, but then it cuts into the seat so isn’t ideal either. #firstworldproblems 🤣
I think the weight stated on the website might exclude the bolts, since these are on the bike either way. Not sure if true, but makes sense. As always - great video. Thanks a bunch!
The Rally Raid bolts are a lot heavier than the stock bolts. Not sure how much more, but the spacers in particular are very sturdy on the RR rack. All good stuff though.
Nice yes, but in my opinion a tubular luggage rack is better, because it is a useful link for moving the bike, and above all for pulling it in bad off-road moments.
For me, I use the rack for fixing both day ride dry bags and occasionally holdalls. I also need one that my Enduristan Blizzard panniers will easily hook on to. (They can be made to fit any, but anything with a lot of fiddly straps can be annoying at the end of the day). I found that the H2C was too heavy, the Rally Raid looked great, but was a bit small and the tapered shape wasn’t great for hooks that pull to the middle, the Yamamoto was ok, probably my second overall choice for my purposes, and the AS was the best compromise of weight, practicality (for my use), price and looks. I’m sure all the others have their place and use, but for me the AS was the best choice. And I have used all the others. All were bought and paid for personally with none offered for free for a review or even a discount, that isn’t really my thing. I’m sure there are many opinions on what is the ‘best’ but the problem is that ‘best’ might be different to different people. Also relatively few have tried more than one so the answer to what’s best generally align with the one that people have bought.
I suppose it’s whether it’s considered to be a problem with the rack or with the pack. I guess some packs are just too big. Thanks for watching to the end, not many do. Which is why if I fall off on a ride, I put it after the end bit 🤣
Great video as always Andrea! Rally Raid rack looks stunning for me. May I ask you what you think about SRC Moto products for 300 Rally? Thanks, Matteo (from Italy)
Hi Matteo, I haven’t tried them. I’ll see what I can find. It’s easier to have an opinion when not only have I seen one, but also seen several others. (I think this is my 4th; stock with Givi plate, H2C, Yamoto and now Rally Raid. Outback Motortek is also on my list..) I’ll check them out. Thanks.
@@PeakMotorcycles Outback Motortek great products, I actually contacted them last day about Crash Bars new orders will be available on December. Thanks for all the great work you do on UA-cam ;)
I got one on order, but after receiving my rotopax and rotopax mounting block the holes they drill in rack are going front to back which mounts rotopax sideways ? It’s way better if rotopax mounts narrower dimensions parallel to fender . Who would want it other way ? Guess I’ll have to drill new holes pretty ridiculous I’d say .
After doing testing with the rotopax in both variants, we decided that the smaller rotopax were best placed at 90 degrees to still allow the seat to be removed. Due to the nature of the small bike it also dug into the lower back when over the rear offroad. There is pros and cons to both options. Thanks for letting us know your thoughts
Appreciate the response and reason why it is the way it is . I’m wondering if having holes setup for both directions would be a option and let the end user decide what works best ? Thank you .
I think there is a slight variation from country to country depending on how they measure rider weights (maybe, I’m guessing on that one!), but it’s around 4 or 5kg. You should have a safety sticker on the rear plastic just behind the seat which says what the limit is.
Did you use the bikes original spacers with the Yamato rack? Thanks again for the videos. They've been a great help. I put a Yamato bash plate and luggage rack on yesterday along with a few other bits. I have the reckless 80. Any idea where people are attaching the straps on either side?
Do you mean the little alloy inserts, two black, two silver? If so, then yes. I think I did. The Rally Raid ones have the appropriate ends on the spacers so the stock ones aren't needed any more. I haven't tried the Reckless 80 I'm afraid so I can't say for sure. For my Blizzard rackless panniers, I've put a couple of bolt on metal loops around the pillion peg mounting points and also a couple onto the rear most rack mounting points and use those for the webbing. Not sure how the Reckless attaches, but if similar with one forward and one back mounting point, then perhaps that'll work? I expect someone's done a video about it somewhere. I have been offered some Mosko Moto stuff (not free!) but even still it's quite expensive just to do a video. Maybe I'll try some at some point and do a 'vs' video with my Enduristan setup.
@@PeakMotorcycles yes the black and silver. Thanks. I'll put them in. I will look for some bolt on metal loops as there's no obvious connection. The reckless 80 sides come forward a lot nearly to the pillion pegs.
@@charliem5332 I think they stop the plastics from being pinched so there’s metal to metal in contact from the frame to the end of the bolt. I’ll see if I can find a link to what bought…

The stock bolts and spacers are 120g. The Rally Raid bolts and spacers are 360g, which I know is only .25kg, but it’s more than half the weight of the rack, so not including them would be a bit misleading. I don’t think they’ve done that though, as the 850g quoted on the website is more than the rack itself. Maybe the original design had alloy rather than steel spacers which might explain the 100g variation.
Good question, and I don’t think it would. The strap fixings are quite close together, so I think it’s perfect for a smaller pack, 5-10l. Bigger than that and you’d have to make sure it was secure, or use a bigger rack.
I am not. I went rackless for day rides, saddlebags for weekends and soft panniers on frames for longer trips. The RR rack was great, but not particularly compatible with the pannier frames and extra weight for day rides.
@@jcyoho31 I have. Current favourite is the 6.5L XS Base Pack. I also tried the 12L which is probably fine for longer trips, but too big for day rides, for me at least. Yup. The best looking one without a doubt. Perfect for a small tail pack. Not sure how well it’d fare with a larger drybag though.
