i cant stop watching this dudes channel, all the classics, were talking crash bandicoot, road rash, reisdent evil, spyro the dragon and in this case metal gear solid, i find myself playing these old classics more then new games
When are they going to remaster this game into PS4 quality. I think i would orgasm if they announced that. I remember watching this game in high school, i got to play like 5 seconds of it because my buddy who owned it and 20 other dudes would just watch and take turns. First time I ever felt that a video game was a movie could not wait to get to the next part. as epic as it gets folks, one of the greatest games in history. this was the landing on the moon moment for video games!
A thing has its time and it's part of that. Remaking it in HD isn't going to remake the experience of you playing that game for the very first time when it originally came out. I mean, look at the Shadow Moses section of MGS4 - it's lovely, it's nostalgic, it's a beautiful recreation - but time's moved on, it's kind of the point of that whole bit. Metal Gear isn't the same game it it originally was, you're not the same person you were when you started out on Shadow Moses Island all those year s ago. Kojima called it right, nostalgia has it's place in the world - but you can't remake what that original game was, what it meant playing it. A HD re-creation is just a cash in, an expensive echo. Do what you did when you first swam to the surface as Snake - use your imagination. That's how you played it the first time round. Treasure the ability. In this day and age, it's a dying art. Peace : )
***** Yes, there was indeed a turbo controller. Another way to do this without killing your thumb is by using a pen in a particular way. It allows you to get much more hits in. It's extremely well-done though isn't it? You really do feel like you're fighting the fatique to hold out against the torture. I take it you've just started out with the Metal Gear games?
Metal gear solid and resident for the ps1 were the best games of its time. Including silent hill, syphon filter most people don't know about syphon filter.
add on kagero deception 2 twisted metal and ff7 WWF warzone and sir you just described the best days of my life. I genuinely feel bad for this generation who really never got to experience the feel.
If anyone wants a much more playable version of this game, there is a remake known as Twin Snakes on Gamecube. Much much better with nothing detracted.
Just a few weeks ago I bought the Metal Gear Solid The Legacy Collection. This collection has Metal Gear, MG2 Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid, MGS Special Missions, MGS2, MGS3, MGS4, MGS Peace Walker & two MGS Digital Graphic Novels & Artbook. It was pretty expensive, but really worth the high price. Only big problem I had with this collection was that MGS & MGS Special Missions are DOWNLOADABLE games. This sucks, because I don't have internet connection on my PS3.
I actually disagree on the grounds that I absolutely disliked the psone version, I perfered the gamecube one for playability. It froze alot less, load times were less, controls were better and I felt like It actually was a game instead of a first attempt at a game.
I tried it on an emulator and I was surprised by how beautiful it was. Of course I didn't finish the game because of the hard controls (I was using the keyboard), so I ended up buying it :D As for MGS HD Collection, is it better in Ps3 or Psv?
ABSOLUTELY!!!! Honestly, this review touched on nearly every aspect of this game. There's SO MUCH to MGS1 that it will require you to play through it several times. I've beaten this game over 7 times and NEVER KNEW that dogs could pee on that cardboard box. Incredible! This game never ages!
Skotone514 You probably already bought it but I wanted to add my own two cents. I actually preferred MGS2 on Vita. I always play it whenever i need to burn time and i have my vita on me. But I played the rest of the collection on PS3. Hopefully you didn't miss these but the original Metal Gear 1&2 are inside MGS3.
Whatever you say, I always hated the Psone version because of the load times, and the failures, lock ups, and basically just the system always fucking up on me. That is just me.
This game is freaking awesome. I also mention about the amount of time you die during that game including stupid death. I made a complete review about it on this channel I'm writing right now. Check it out! (English subtitles available)
i loved the whole "warehouse in alaska" thing this game had the FEELING and vibe of the game was very cold and unforgiving.. it was just something i had never experienced before in a game
Oh man. I remember the first time I played this (I was 10) being so freaked out at the memory card reading scene. I also loved the whole having to look on the actual CD case to get the right number to call Meryl. So many good memories playing this game. It really is a shame that more games today don't put in those little details to make them stand out.
I understand completely your problems with the controls, none of the metal gear solid games handle even remotely like any other game, so experience playing other games won't help in the slightest, it takes a lot of patience and experimenting to get it right, I suggest using the d-pad to help with when the camera goes really crazy, also, tap R2 to holster your gun when you're aiming at something, or hold L1 to walk while pointing said gun and lock on more easily
The problem with the game is that it added MGS2 gameplay, to the level of the first MGS. It's really interesting to see. But it makes the game really, really easy. As you have the convenience of first person shooting etc. And personally for me, I think it lacks a lot in the original's atmosphere. The old school PS1 graphics really make it look a lot more gritty, and dark. And Psycho Mantis sounds awful in the remake. lulz, not that it's a big factor.
I didn't mind Twin Snakes. It was harder in some odd sense, probably because that gamecube controller is a piece of crap for playing Metal Gear Solid on. Overall, it just seems like a port to me. But I'd still rather play the PS1 version.
Naw, Nintendo didn't even publish it. Lol. Silicon Knights and Konami co-developed it and Nintendo simply put it on their console. That would be the only reason why they couldn't. Lol.
Metal Gear Solid 3 that comes with that HD collection, and which is a prequel (in terms of timeline the very first game) is actually not a bad place to start. You'll miss on a couple of inside jokes though if you're not familiar with the series beforehand (these games always contain some humour and easter eggs with codec conversations and stuff like that) MGS1 is definitely worth getting one way or another though. Not many games have had an impact like that on me.
Millions of Happy Birthday wishes from Sweden, Metal Gear on your 25th birthday! (07/07/2012) It's been a long time since the people were introduced to Snakes first adventure, in Outer Heaven. Little did I know that I was entering a world of intense graphics, spectacular 3D environtments, mindblowing story and memorable characters, and my favorite video-game series of all time. I fell in love with Snake and the many things he taught me. Thank you Hideo Kojima and Konami, for making my life...
the thing and gave my copy of MGS to my friend at the beginning of the year I'd got MGS2. I'd already moved out of state and away from that friend, so I couldn't play it at his house and no one around me had a PS1, so I opted to get the Twin Snakes in a desperate act of hope. Amazed at the story of the series, I was upset at myself for not getting into it sooner. This year back in February/March, I finally got a PS2 along with ingdom Hearts, Devil May Cry, and eventually MGS3: subsistence.
Florida whom we gave most of our Xbox games to before we moved and saw MGS2 still there. Having not seen the game case in probably about 3 years or so (I last saw it actually PLAYED the year we got it, probably), I decided to ask if I could take some games with me when we returned home. I was granted permission and then popped in MGS2 just for old times (I'd brought my Xbox with me). INSTANTLY fell in love with it. Shamefully, however, while I'd brought all our PS1 games with us, I sold
this game is just remarkable...sooo many memories. It's quite funny, actually, because since we've had this game since I was probably about 4, I used to play it along with Mortal Kombat Trilogy and Crash Bash, but too much because of the alert sound when you get spotted, the music that followed, and the game over, lol. When it came out, we got MGS2:Substance for Xbox since we didn't get a PS2 and I'd only watch my dad play. About a decade later (7-8 years or so), I went to my grandparents in
Personaly i have to say that this is the best game i have ever playd. It can whitout any problems beat Every one of these new games we have these days. Most games today are like ''Yea yea, now lett me kill som people''. MGS really makes you care for the story. a mix of great Voice acting, a fantastic plot and Amazing Music makes it my facorit game of all time. and still to this day i'll play it rather then these new games. LOVE IT!:-D Can't wayt for Kojima to make MGS5.
Easily one of the best games around, when it was released there was nothing like it, and like you say it really hasn't aged much, it still is amazing. I remember the first time I ever played it just spending hours and hours experimenting in first 1 or 2 rooms... finding the perfect route, trying not to be found... just an incredible, inventive, unique game that is incredibly important even now almost 15 years later.
I wonder, did it begin with you getting out of water, and having to kill 2 (maybe 3 ) in a room with small hallways, then taking an elevator at the end of that room? i believe you end up outside.... something about a helicopter... and your watch talks to you.. uh oh i dont remember.. but the demo ends when you crawl through a vent.
this is not easily a game, it is an amazing experience.Metal gear solid has a very deep beauty with all of his meanings, story, spoilers, game tactics and bosses, that makes it not just a game, but something that goes beyond videogames.
They're obviously named after the different states of matter. I think theres 6 altogether. Solid, Liquid, Gas, Plasma, Bose Einstein Condensate and Fermionic Condensate. I don't think Kojima would go for Bose Einstein Condensate Snake though lmao.
what a wonderful game. i remember playing the demo and being blown away. it was so good that my friend who wasnt a big gamer, got a ps1 and mgs for christmas.
and WHO ARE snake from metal gear solid 3 and peace walker ? since it happen in mid 70's, why Solidus really like snake from MGS 3 ? is that just a coincidence ? i think solidus is a Old Snake, and "David" is a Young Snake.
Love this game, last time l played this it was a no-save run and took me all night to beat. Not to mention the overuse of the word "Genes" had me and my housemate dying from laughter... "I do what my Jeans tell me."
It's a shame Kurt Russel is too old to do the Plissken voice anymore and Michael Biehn's voice is a but rusty, they'd be better playing Snake seeing as they were the original inspiration for Metal Gear on MSX.
one of the most famous games and yet one of my mates walked in today while i was playing it and he's like 'what you playing?' :P i looked at him and was like are you serious??? :P just thought id share
looks like a great and interesting game, I had snake eater and guns of the patriots and I could never get into this type of gameplay, but I can see why people think it's so great :)
Mmm snake so sexy. I had that game on a demo disc i got in a magazine. I played the beginning over and over finding new ways to kill the same 7 people hahaha. I was pro.
It had a SECOND generation remake (you might be one of the fans that didn't like it, though because of "Mr. back-flippy Snake", but I thought it was pretty good.)
Finally after all those years I finally survived through the Ocelot's torture, when I was a kid I tried using a turbo controller, hahaha what a idiot. ;P
Yea, I was new to the MGS series at first. When I bought peace walker, I was in love with the game. Later I played MGS 3 then I hated the game. truth is though, back then, I was an ignorant, narrow minded dumb-ass to let this game rot in my shelf. When the HD collection reviews came out talking so highly about these games, I had to go back and check MGS 3 out, I went back, played and realized how much of a dumb-ass I was. Now I love every game in the series.
to most of the peoples favorite is generally MGS3, I love that game to death but I grew up with the original MGS which is officially my favorite and most memorable game of the series and one of my favorite games in general, I remember as a little kid being affraid to play it because it seemed so hard at first but I've toughened up and played it anyway because of how beautiful and genious this game is, great presentation, great story, great characters, so many fond memories :)
"Metal Gear Solid may require you to backtrack 30 minutes or so." Yeah, that was before MGS3 came out and then gamers backtracked their sorry "impatient" butts back in time. The gameplay is the only thing worth mentioning but the only flaw is it's greatest flaw and that's the over the top boss battles. Each levels' layout gives very little TACTICAL variety, the cheap plot twists that would follow take away from the ESPIONAGE while the over the top ACTION is nauseating. MGS series = decent fun.
Me too. MGS1 beats any Call of Duty any day of the week. It's so sad that they don't often make games with this amount of care, and attention to detail anymore. MGS is a perfect game. So what if it doesn't have the latest graphics. The story, cutscenes, overall presentation, music, voice acting, scriptwriting, and of course gameplay is just stunning. And better than most generic games that come out now. One of the most brilliant games ever made.
I´m ok with the graphics i don´t look a lot into that unless it´s a horror game. The soundtrack is great. Controls are a bit bad but bearable. The worst thing for me in MGS is the camera. I can´t see a thing but Snake´s head, which isn´t very helpful. I don´t ask for a birdview that tells me where the guards are, but a view that let´s me see what Snake is seeing. For me MGS was a great game severely hindered by an awful camera.
i cant stop watching this dudes channel, all the classics, were talking crash bandicoot, road rash, reisdent evil, spyro the dragon and in this case metal gear solid, i find myself playing these old classics more then new games
I'm the same way! I play PS1 games on my PS3 way more than I play actual PS3 games lol
@Jackie Chan Big Fan Dude i used to play the hell out of Dino Crisis when i was a kid. Good memories
This game is one of the best game I've ever played,a masterpiece!!!
Indeed it is I just recently played this game now I am waiting for Death Stranding
Steve Normandin true masterpiece..best game for mgs franchise. still LOVE metal gear solid 😆
metal..... ...... gear solid...

metal gear solid the twin snakes on game cube is remake of this game
Not gonna happen. MGS V: TPP is their main priority right now.
+draskafer We don't like to talk about that piece of shit
SeverdSeouL we dont say its name..out loud anyway's 😔

Jam Packs baby!
Just got this masterpiece off PSN!
Have fun :)
Oh, one tip. When the interrogation scene happens, make sure you mash that button!
That's how you get the canon ending to the game.
***** Yea, totally. Never actually done it myself. I think the tension of my thumb breaking adds to the experience.
This game is Solid!
i am still waiting for them to release this on the vectrex
Metal gear solid and resident for the ps1 were the best games of its time. Including silent hill, syphon filter most people don't know about syphon filter.
syphon filter was the shit hands down
wait they had s syphon filter 3 wtf.. I just picked up at ps1 and a ps2 so i can go back and play this with dino crisis and resident evil
+HotSizzleTV fun fact: the director of Syphon Filter was the same person that conceived and directed the Bubsy games
RVG Symphony i didnt know that
add on kagero deception 2 twisted metal and ff7 WWF warzone and sir you just described the best days of my life. I genuinely feel bad for this generation who really never got to experience the feel.
When I battled Psycho Mantis, and he read my memory card, I hid under my bed and cried. I hated it.
Mgs2 still had the same feel as Mgs1
@KonicavaBR Yea man, I was not a fan of Raiden,
Even though the camera angles were similar, there was a lot of new stuff for the series in that game.
Snake ? SNAKE ! ......SNAKEEEEE !
LEGENDARY GAME
Metal Gear Solid 5 will be what gets me to buy one of those new overpriced consoles that just came out
They're not overpriced, you're just poor.
MGS 5 is also coming out for 360 and PS3
+athest7 lmao so harsh
I liked dying in this game to hear snake scream...sick...I know.
"ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"
SNAKE?! SNAKE?!
"Mashed Potato Consistency Snake" - I'm dying over here!

This sucks, because I don't have internet connection on my PS3.
i snagged that when it first came out, hard to beleive it was 30 bucks, now its like 80 or 90
I LOVE UA-cam AND THEIR NEW TERMS AND CONDITIONS.
I actually disagree on the grounds that I absolutely disliked the psone version, I perfered the gamecube one for playability. It froze alot less, load times were less, controls were better and I felt like It actually was a game instead of a first attempt at a game.
Hey, Do you guys really recommend MGS? I wanted to play it and now that it's 4.99€ I don't know if I should get it or not...
It's pretty fun, I'd get it if I were you.
I tried it on an emulator and I was surprised by how beautiful it was. Of course I didn't finish the game because of the hard controls (I was using the keyboard), so I ended up buying it :D
As for MGS HD Collection, is it better in Ps3 or Psv?
ABSOLUTELY!!!! Honestly, this review touched on nearly every aspect of this game. There's SO MUCH to MGS1 that it will require you to play through it several times. I've beaten this game over 7 times and NEVER KNEW that dogs could pee on that cardboard box. Incredible! This game never ages!

But I played the rest of the collection on PS3. Hopefully you didn't miss these but the original Metal Gear 1&2 are inside MGS3.
Let's just say it's just like one of my Japanese animes.
Or in other words, It's Pretty Good.
I was so attached to this game from the very first time I played it, and could stop playing it until I beat it all the way to the end. So awesome!
Just a epic classic game from the 90's that's for sure, great review.
Something nobody acknowledges about this game: it just sounds so fucking good!
Whatever you say, I always hated the Psone version because of the load times, and the failures, lock ups, and basically just the system always fucking up on me. That is just me.
Shut up. I never had an issue with mine
Stfu nintendrone
konami must have gone to the bubsy 3d school of camera mechanics in this game!
My fourth favorite game of all time. The other ones didn't compare IMO
Same here. Definitely my favorite game ever.
Hell yeah! PS1 version is definitely the best!
This game is freaking awesome. I also mention about the amount of time you die during that game including stupid death. I made a complete review about it on this channel I'm writing right now. Check it out! (English subtitles available)
i loved the whole "warehouse in alaska" thing this game had
the FEELING and vibe of the game was very cold and unforgiving.. it was just something i had never experienced before in a game
LOL
Marcelo B LOL total immersion, love it dude.
Marcelo B Hahaha, funniest thing I've heard in awhile.
You are my hero Lord Karnage and dont let anybody say you are not.
Guess I am not a true fan, LOL
Or maybe i just like it better.
Oh man. I remember the first time I played this (I was 10) being so freaked out at the memory card reading scene. I liked that we got a few trophy's and cutscenes for having played ground zeros. Kogima has always given us cool things like that.
what name to game over montage music ;-;
Greatest home console game of all time.
Psone games did that to me ALL the time when I was a kid.
This game has a special place in my heart :D
Strange as it may sound, I've never heard about this game until 2001.
Meal Gear Solid was never released for PSN in India . Damn you konami .
Shreyash Singh 'live to enter10' I’m surprised it’s not on PS4. Konami sucks

Best game ever!!! & FUCK twin snakes
Twin snakes is miles better
+Solaris642 If you have no taste and only care about marginally better graphics
the dialogue was fucked in Twin snakes
I didn't mind Twin Snakes. It was harder in some odd sense, probably because that gamecube controller is a piece of crap for playing Metal Gear Solid on. Overall, it just seems like a port to me. But I'd still rather play the PS1 version.
"Hrmmmm... Metal Gear!"

Best game in history.
You mean the dogs won't bother you if you let them pee on the box? Darn it! Every time I play MGS, I kill those dogs. And I'm a dog lover.

There was a Metal Gear game for GBC. It was called Metal Gear: Ghost Babel. It's non- canon and has nothing to do with the PS1 game.
Trippy. I remember Mark & Dave reviewing Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions in the late 1990s, and now we get a review of the predecessor.
Mark, you just said you were broadcasting from the Intergalactic Space Station. It's the Intergalactic Space Arcade, remember?
this is not easily a game, it is an amazing experience.Metal gear solid has a very deep beauty with all of his meanings, story, spoilers, game tactics and bosses, that makes it not just a game, but something that goes beyond videogames.

Best PS1 game.Simple as that.
Even the Official PlayStation Magazine said that (Final Fantasy VII was in second place).
Not by a long shot.
You know, you think Konami would have put the Twin Snakes version of Metal Gear Solid in that collection...

0:20 fuck mark, way to bring back the nostalgia.
Buyaaahhh ahh ahhh,
tziiiiinnnng ring ring

True the PS1 version is DEFINITELY better, butyou at least have to agree that Twin Snakes made Fox out to be more of a beast than he already was. :D

Metal Gear Solid is one of those rare games that doesn't feel like a game, but plays like a game.

greatest game of all time. a majority players from every genre of gaming like this, even mainly sports gamers... it's that damn good
A friend of mine is letting me borrow his PS3 so I can play MGS4 now that I've beaten 1-3. My new copy should be in by next Friday.
If this guy is such a video game expert, why does he need so many donations? Shouldn't he already own many of these great games?
jajajajaja yeah lol
Metal Gear Solid required you to play cautiously and not rambo-ish. If you didn't stop to think for a second, you died.
That's for the PS2, isn't it? You can't play that version of MGS on a PS one, can you?
Is over half of the game seriously cutscenes? The game looks interesting, but when I play games, I want to play games.

I don't care about the difficulty, every thing that surrounds the gameplay is broken.
I've pretty much played all the MGS games and first now did the sexual inuendo of the name Solid Snake hit me...
The idea is that if someone really wants a game to be reviewed on Classic Game Room, they can donate it to them.
damn those intro songs you guys made are just so awesome, i wish i could have them.
so wait, how do you switch the controller ports for mantis when playing on the PS3?
People like you give us atheists a bad name.
"Hurr durr! thar iz no God. Hurr durr"
"Metal Gear Solid may require you to backtrack 30 minutes or so."
Yeah, that was before MGS3 came out and then gamers backtracked their sorry "impatient" butts back in time.
