I like wearing boots but in my life the people i know who spend all day on their feet wear hokas (nurses, retail workers, etc). Maybe in more heavy duty jobs they wear boots more. I still like boots but my running shoes still feel more comfortable for a whole day of wear.
It really depends hey, some people like the softness (especially if they need to run) while for others that softness it was leads to foot pain after a day on their feet and boots relieve it
I've worn some bad boots in my time. Also some bad trainers. I'm more frustrated with the cheapening of construction and materials than anything more. A trainer can be good if companies put more into it. But I know boots can also have some spurious claims with them such as better ankle support
I'm giving this a like because I enjoy the channel, but as the owner of a shoe/boot collection worth about as much as a used Honda Civic, I disagree with so many of these. Comfort- Double leather soles and heel stacks are not comfortable. None of my boots come close to the comfort of my Cole Haan Stitchlites, Adidas Tennis Shoes, or any of my Wolf & Sheppard's. Durability- people talk about how waterproof leather boots are. Really? If you get them wet they look awful. I try not to wear them on any days they could potentially get wet because I don't want spots all over the shoes and I don't want to have to constantly wipe them. It's a pain. They are recraftable- I guess. I don't think I've ever known a person who's gone to a cobbler to have their shoes resoled. Cobbler? This isn't 1500's Europe. I don't have a blacksmith either. They look cooler- Well yeah, they're totally badass.
Yeah. I think minimalist sneakers like Koio Capri or Thursday Premier are good after that certain age, but I might feel differently by the time I get there!
Points 1 and 4 are wrong. 1. Less ankle rolling comes from stronger ankles. Shoe support comes from the sole itself, not from high walls. If you think your ankle muscles fail you, a sheet of leather isn’t going to do much. Documented research has shown lower instances of injury in people who wear sandals than boots in long distance hiking. 4. A bunch of work in coal miners indicated that stiffer footwear means less stability and more injury. There’s a reason most modern militaries have transitioned into relatively lightweight boots with polycarbonate shanks instead of steel. Medium flexibility and stiffness is shown to be best in reducing slippage, not something super flexible or something super stiff.
By no means against boots, they look great. Just be careful with the health claims, especially when some time in google scholar points in the opposite direction
Yeah I'm gonna disagree partially on the ankle rolling part. Yes ankle stability and flexibility will reduce injury chances and injury severity. However if you've ever worn a boot designed for mountaineering or rucking, a thin peice of fabric, plastic, or leather which is fitted and supported properly will absolutely stabilize the ankle joint. Imagine it being more like taping an injured ankle to prevent further injury in field medicine. Same concept you're just doing it to prevent injuries. That being said, the fashion boots he's showing off will likely do fuckall to prevent ankle injuries.
As someone who has owned a lot of work boots I’ve never had a steel shank break on me, but I have had a plastic shank break. Also I find it funny when anyone uses military equipment as an example for anything, military grade just means supplied by the lowest bidder.
I wear boots in the fall and winter and sneakers in the spring and summer. They fit the two different styles I have. Love em both
