Crash 4 has great levels, really good stuff. And that gives me some hope Toys For Bob can knock it out the park. But this game went in the wrong direction, especially in what the game expects from you for 100% completion. The unfair and frankly ridiculous box and hidden gem placements is just, flat out bad design. Everything surrounding the actual base game is very poor imo. The base levels are good. But going for 100% really highlights the flaws to the extent it sours the overall experience. Which shouldn't be the case since getting 100% is usually the most fun aspect of Crash imo.
FINALLY! I find someone who shares my EXACT thoughts on this game. (And all it took was a Mario avatar, oddly enough.) OK, to those of you who know have seen me complain before about this game... I actually don't think it's a bad game. It's a great game! Rather, the problems with it come to light when you're going for 100%, and are only exacerbated further by it. Honestly, those N. Sanely Perfect Relics RUINED this game for me. So do I think this is the best Crash game ever? Casually, I can possibly agree... but beyond that, absolutely NOT! I'll take Wrath of Cortex over this any day. It had it's problems, but it never did anything to sabotage the player.
@@paulusquagmire3637 can’t tell if you’re being serious or not. I beat the developer time on Cortex Castle. Bad game design isn’t over come by being good at it. The game is littered with bad design. No amount of getting good will help you find the ridiculously placed hidden gems and crates in some levels. Unless jumping off every ledge hoping for an offscreen gem is skill related
Yeah if there was anything that should've been dropped for completion sake, it would've been the N Sanely Perfect Relics they don't add anything but unfair stupidity, honestly some of these journalists need to know when to shut up, cause if they didn't bitch and moan about difficulty on the Crash N Sane Trilogy then we could've gotten a more balanced game out of the deal, feels like Toys For Bob made it hard out of spite honestly..
Glad I'm not the only one who feels this game wasn't worth the full price. Yes, this game has extra content but I don't really feel like the content was worth it, especially since I don't really feel like it makes the experience fresh when you replay stages in multiple modes and other collectibles. I'd recommend waiting for a price drop before buying it for anyone who is interested in this game.
As a life long Crash fan, I completely agree with your thoughts. Level design, art direction, and the controls are fantastic, but the difficulty is a huge sticking point for me, particularly some of the timing/accuracy they ask of you, and the ridiculously hidden gems and boxes. It gets to a point that it’s not even enjoyable because of how obnoxiously difficult it is. I still love this game, but I still put N Sane above it since it’s much more enjoyable overall. Great review sir!
I haven’t played a single crash game yet. I keep seeing him everywhere because of crash 4 and the trilogy, but I think I might actually bite the bullet and get the trilogy after this video. Also, I have to mention that I love your style of video editing. It’s really inspiring to me when creating videos of my own!
Great video! I’m new to crash just beat remade trilogy and just played crash 4 I thought the game was super fun and my favourite crash game but when you said the game was hard I somewhat agree it is harder than your average platformer like cortex castle pissed me off but I don’t think a game being hard is a problem I believe that games are to easy nowadays, for newcomers it will be hard and challenging but I believe that’s good to overcome the challenges. I thought the box placements and gems were cheap but when you look passed it this is a good game
Yeah. If I'm picking up Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time for the very first time (no pun intended), I would get my buttocks handed to me after N. Sanity Island. The very first Crash game I'll be playing is Crash Bandicoot: On The Run, which I have already pre-registered for!!!!
I personally love the Eggipus levels the best (Dino levels). They're all cool and very manageable not too difficult especially being about halfway through the game.
This was a pretty good video. Yeah new comers will be turned away from this game, but playing the games that came before will help. A casual playthrough of this game is pretty good and tough, but fair...ish. But doing a complete playthrough is a nightmare. I feel like if they make a "Crash 5", they need to tone down the difficulty just a bit.
Crash Bandicoot was never a difficult series. Every game in the original trilogy became better the easier they get. The removing of Stormy Ascent in Crash 1, the DDA system in Crash 2 and 3 are examples of this. While the trilogy is more simple, is that polished simplicity and accesibility what makes the original games so good even to this day. Crash 4 complexity needs some refinements... And i dont judge the people who enjoy more Crash 4, is still a fantastic platformer in my opinion.
I don’t think I would love this game if it was easier. Most difficult games nowadays are made on the cheap or look retro, like meat boy or something. Crash 4 looks like a AAA game yet it’s not afraid to kick you in the dick and I respect that
As great as the game is the Hit Box on the Riding sections is awful and length of certain levels Looking at you Toxic Tunnels, Rush Hour and Crash Landed
Crash as a series was never a difficult. Crash 4 and TFB just somehow think it is and that went way to their heads and they took it too far for Crash 4. Its thanks to crash 4, that people now compare crash to dark souls. When the series was never that hard to begin with. I came out really not enjoying crash 4 in the end. Is it objectively good game? Yeah. But in my opinion, its the worst in the franchise. Im not ashamed to say ill never 100% the game either. (Crash4) Ever. The willpower and patience I needed to finish the final level of the game (cortex Castle) was complete bullshit. Death count was over 180 deaths btw..🙄😒😡👎 Theres a difference between challenging and flat out unfun, and many times crash 4 was exactly that. Felt too much like a chore. Crash 1 was challenging but very tame in comparison to this crap. All the bs and jumping through hoops they make u do, just for a secret cutscene is complete bullsh*t. I think TFB wanted this game to be challenging but that went straight to their heads as ive said before.. It was too much for me. Not saying the game was bad. Its not. But in my opinion its the least replayable game in the series cause of the extreme difficulty and overabundance of padding in between. This game made me wanna go back and play the classic trilogy again. In fact I did EXACTLY that when I finished crash 4. I finished it once with just over 60% by the end and haven't touched it since. If you enjoy this then power to you. But as for me, ill stick to the classics.
Hello Shemp, given you decided to delete my previous comment for some reason. I’m just wondering why you completely contradict large proportions of what you say in your video on Twitter and wondering if you could offer some explanation as to why your opinion has done a 180. Seems very suspicious
I don't delete comments, so I don't know what that's about. And I've said multiple times on Twitter that I was in the "honeymoon phase" with the game. An updated video is coming out soon.
@@ShempOfficial Then you shouldn’t post a review on a game if there’s a chance you can go from adoring it to hating it and haven’t experienced it fully. Opinions change over time but the fact yours has to this extent only proves you hadn’t played the games enough to give your true opinions on it
No, it's the worst. So many wasted opportunities for bosses like Tiny and Papu Papu, the purple gem's gone and the Perfect Relics just add more salt to the wound.

can you make a video on sonic's 30th anniversary
You forgot the VHS tapes thats extra levels
UMMM!! TITANS AND MUTANT HAD SKINS!! HELLOOOO
Coool
Crash 4 is great but its very far away from crash 3
Crash 4 is miles better than 3
Almost every aspect in Crash 4 is better than 3. (Except for polar sections lol)
Agree
