I crossed this bridge many times in 1964. Going from Scott AFB up to McDonnell at Lambert Field. The "toll" was 10 cents. A guy would be standing in a little booth in the middle of the roadway. Brings back many memories of those days. Thanks for this.

I’ve been across the bridge a number of times (back in the day).
Had to look up the history. Surprise! It is still used by trains.
    (Very interesting history).

AbandonedSC I just found out about that bridge like a year ago too. its so covered over with massive trees and the freeway there that you can't even see it.

Is it still like this? Would love to check it out. I live north of Chicago but I have family that lives near Alton Illinois so that's why I would be down.

When I lived there I pretty much had a narrow window of time between winter and summer twice each year if I was lucky, to do anything cool.

Nice work! You can try to share on my video if you like. I approved the video, but then it vanished??? UA-cam is a bit finicky sometimes.

I'm glad you did. Most people are afraid of the area.

Unbelievable that the deterioration of all of the bridges and the end of Highway 66 started with Decommissioning it in 1985. Sad because this country blows more of our money on other things like Emigration and other projects that would easily have kept this Historic Highway open.
