The latest royal wedding had a lot of controversies and family drama but ironically, Prince Philip experienced the same thing when he married the then Princess Elizabeth. The palace courtiers thought that Philip wasn't good enough for Elizabeth even though he was a foreign prince. He was exiled, he was considered as an outsider, he was prone to making gaffes, he didn't even have a house of his own, and his sisters were married to Nazis. Incidentally, his sisters weren't invited to the wedding as well. It was only his mum and Lord Mountbatten who attended the wedding so there was also a bit of family drama. I'm sure there were other relatives because the royals are interrelated. I think Queen Elizabeth is her third cousin or something. And he had to give up a lot of things to marry Elizabeth. He renounced his foreign royal title to become British citizen so for a very long time he was just known as the Duke of Edinburgh. When Elizabeth became queen, he had to kneel before her, had to give up his naval career, he wasn't allowed to give his surname to his children.
tumelo mothoa You're welcome. I just learned most of these stuff through the internet and watching The Crown. I forgot to mention, The Queen Mother didn't like him as well.
His Mother was deaf. She was committed to a mental asylum twice. She ended up becoming a nun in later years. You can see her dressed as a nun at the coronation. He was brought up in the UK by Lord Mountbatten after he was taken out by his grandma at age 12 for a picnic. His grandmother, his Mothers mum, arranged for his Mother Anne to be removed by literally the men in white coats while they were gone. He came back to his Mother gone. He never knew where he was going to stay during holidays before moving to England, and wrote on a form under address ‘No Fixed Abode’. He eventually was back in touch with his Mother in his very late teens.
I remember this wedding so well. I was 14 and had collected every picture and bit about the wedding for weeks, got up at some terrible hour to hear it on radio. When I saw it on film I was thrilled. I am Canadian so she is our queen.

Oh perhaps not so much. Don't forget the 20th century had been a very turbulent time for monarchs. It was 1947, so less than 40 years ago almost every country in Europe was a monarchy. You had the Tsar of Russia, the Kaiser of Germany, the Austro-Hungarian Emperor, Spain had a King. By that time they were all gone along with many others, and Labour had just won a landslide victory in Britain. Many at the time thought that the labour party was akin to communism. It must have seemed uncertain whether the British monarchy would survive. Of course its chances were much better after it had served so nobly in the war, but I think concern about it would not have seemed too crazy in those days.

There was some debate at the time about having a "full-blown" royal wedding, given that England was still digging out from WWII. It was finally decided that the wedding would be a positive event that would unite the country. Princess Elizabeth's dress was "paid for" by donated rationing coupons.
The dress was not "paid for" by rationing coupons, donated or otherwise: it was paid for with what you would expect - money. Ration coupons were not some kind of gift card. In fact, they were not a method of payment at all: they existed to ensure that people, regardless of rank, were prevented from buying more than their fair (often meagre) share of the goods available as many items were in short supply. The shopper had to present the coupons to the seller to be allowed to make a purchase. Without the donated coupons, the Royal Family would have been seen as flouting the rules being followed by the rest of the population for whom shopping without coupons was illegal (black market trading). To have bought the raw materials for the dress without supporting coupons would have resulted in criticism for many quarters. I feel bad for my Woody because he’s working tirelessly to keep my mental health at bay and I don’t know how Woody has the strength to do this. He has to watch me crying in bed next to him and then he had to get Woody.EXE to help him
Beautiful moments of love, life, leadership and legacy.🙏🏾💕🥰
Rest in peace, Sir 🇬🇧
70 years being married!!!!! Woooowwwwww!!!!!
Disney Dame yes wow😍😍😍
Wowww

With your cousin...
My Grandad and Nanny have been married for nearly 50 years
R. I. P. Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh 😥😥
I can’t believe it’s 3 months on today and I got so confused and upset about him and my family rowed about me over thinking him and I had to defend him
This is expected because I’m nearing my early 20’s now
Well, she finally got her man!And what a man.Though when younger Phillip had an eye for a pretty lady,he's stood solidly behind the Queen ALL these years. She couldn't have married a better man.I met Phillip once,he was charming, funny, very intelligent.I can see why the Queen fell in love so fast.uk
You were very lucky to meet him. I remember dreaming about meeting him and I traveled back to the late 40’s for that. I was just doing my thing and randomly met Prince Philip and I fell in love so quickly. Queen Elizabeth didn’t find out until a few years later and wasn’t impressed with him at all, but Prince Philip didn’t care once he got with me
Heck of a dream that is
Ohhh the beautiful bridesmaids.. ♥️♥️ & their dresses 😍😍
The last real Royal wedding ,The last Real Queen 😥
It's 2021, She's 95 yrs old. Enjoy her while you can. to hear her oath before God to marry Phillip is so precious. She will go down in history as the best dressed woman who ever lived. A magnificent woman.
I already knew they were married a very long time but I didn’t expect it to be 73 years. That made me start crushing on Prince Philip in November 2017
I’m worrying for her because she’s been ill
Rest in peace Queen Elizabeth ii .. 8.9.2022.
The absolute epitome of dignity and grace. 👑
RIP the Queen’s husband😢😞😞
No disrespect but he has a name prince philips ur can call that (just saying) 👍🙏🤗 and sad 😭😭 RIP😞

Happy heavenly 75th Anniversary Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip
I love their love. Reminds me of my grandparents ❤️
My grandmother and grandad have been married for almost 50 years and they’re still alive along my first Nanny and Grampa, it’s also 50 years for them
Came here after her passing. .. who else?
Wow...
It's amazing...
Both looking gorgeous 😍💕
They did and 74 years of marriage is insane. I couldn’t even go that far with one of my friends in Australia but I want to make it happen. We’ve only been in love for 3 years
You gotta admire being married for more than 70 years like them despite the many ups and downs such as Prince Philip complaining about being emasculated when his wife became queen and all the cheating.
What cheating? Other than the Netflix lies through their mouthpiece the Crown.
You have any proof of his cheating?
Cheating?
R. I. P. Prince Phillip
The most wonderful , sacred , blessed, beautiful wedding I ever watched , none like it
Love Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip
God blessed them 🤩💖💖💖⭐️🌈
Now Prince Philip has died and his wife got covid. WHAT A NIGHTMARE THIS IS
It's too bad the monarchy isn't exist in my country anymore. I love royals marriages because they feeds the fantasy, glamour and dream of wedding day. Make much money too. I hope the monarchy forever last. God save the Queen!
Jessy Rodrigues2018 where do you live?
Ué, a família imperial tá aí super na ativa. Só não têm destaque porque não fazem “nada”.

the queen was beautiful in her youth
her smile is so radiant and beautiful!!
Ohhhhhhhhh The Royal Wedding How romantiic
Incredible, lots of people 55 years and older in this video seen Queen Victoria from late 19th century and witness this wedding. In retrospec, there are children in this video that are their 80's to 90's today in 2023.
My dad was 1 year old when this took place and he's in his 70s now. Are they immortal? ✌🏼
Maria Maria 😂😂😂
Maria Maria 😂😂 lmao
Both my grandfathers were babies back then
LoL !!! I can't believe that prince phillips 98 years old now. Amazing! My grandma born 1943 and she died a years ago.
My dad was 19 and he's still hanging on at age 91; my mum is 87. Some of the younger guests - mainly cousins like my dad, are very much alive.
Now there are both together again 💙
Nice pictures!
Happy heavenly 76th anniversary Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II
They are so adorable and beautiful ❤💘💘💘 they have the perfect fairytale relationship
They were. And this has been my favourite dreams of 2021 since Prince Philip died 3 months ago. I dreamt I was all over him and this wedding happened within weeks and Elizabeth was not impressed with him but Prince Philip didn’t care since he’d got with me
Who’s here after Prince Philip passed .Rip
Queen Elizabeth has the same voice when reading Vows, Like Princess Diana reading vows 😣. 💓
This is the true fairytale😗😗
My grandpha was born this year in 1947 and that’s so adorable
My grandpa and Grandad were born a year later. Grandad is turning 74 in June and my grandpa will be 74 this December
RIP - Prince Phillip. 🕊
Rest in peace Queen ❤
Crying my eyes out watching this on 08.09.2022 the night of Queen Elizabeth's death. R.I.P to them both. Truly the end of an era 💔🕊 gone but not forgotten.
The first time I’ve locked myself in my bedroom all night without eating because I was very distressed and didn’t even want to let my mother in but had to since she was very concerned about me
The queen is beautiful
Elizabeth had the most beautiful wedding gown I have ever seen. I can just picture Eizabeth and Philip strolling arm and am through heaven (or whatever it is on the other side) and crossing over the Rainbow Bridge to visit their many beloved corgis. (Sorry, I'm being a sap right now. ☺)
It’s okay, you’re saying this because you care as much as I do
EXCELLENT IMAGES !!!!!
RIP Queen Elizabeth II. Thank you for your service.🙏
The most popular and beloved of the Windsor family is Queen Elizabeth II.She went through of XX century to XXI as a most respected woman, who beloved always her people.🌷🌺👏
