Earl almost made it 4 minutes before saying how dry the table was.
I love Earl, man. Truly is the pearl. I just wouldn't have the same interest in pool if not for him. I'm a relatively young man, so the odds are I'll have to live on this earth without him playing pool on it someday and I'll be left watching reruns... the modern players just don't have the transparency of character and eccentricities of the older generation from which Earl comes. Cheers to Earl - the greatest of all time.
I like when he said "Efren will do this, Efren will do that", That says how much he appreciates him.
Earl needs to remember that Tennis is played on different surfaces causing the ball to act differently and making the greatest players adjust to the conditions. Doesn't matter how dry or humid it is you need to be able to adjust to the conditions. There is a list of great pro tennis players (Andy Roddick) that never won a Wimbledon cause grass plays different than clay or hard surfaces. Earl is our McEnroe of pool and He's Awesome! Thanks Earl.
Like Nadal always wins on clay but not much else.
Although nadal dominates on clay, he has won all four majors.

Selected random thoughts i had while watching:
1) 4:48 (12 seconds duration) Any other time, the camera would be following a player around (pointlessly showing nothing of value in the proceedings). Here's one of few occasions when we actually do want to watch the players, to see if Rocha will take the table or will put Ouschan back in. So, of course they cut away from either one of them. The good news is that they seem to be (slowly) learning, though. 12:54 (13 seconds duration)
2) 13:06 (19 seconds duration) Well, the penalty for every _other_ foul is "ball in hand"; so ...
3) Hey, Earl, you need to ease up off of the overhead camera.
43:28 (12 seconds duration)

(In the last two cases, *i* could see same things from both angles.)
Here are three times, in this match alone, when the overhead cam showed YOU something that YOU couldn't see from your favorite angle:

Just because a view is not good for _everything_ (-- no view IS! --) doesn't mean it's not good for _anything._
4) 44:06 (16 seconds duration) Tennis is played with ONE ball, Earl. If there were other balls lying on the court whose relationships mattered to the success of play, i expect that they'd show more overhead views. Analogizing using non-analogues isn't worth much.
5) 35:53 (30 seconds duration) If this camera were two or three feet higher and zoomed in to encompass the entire table without the space left around the edges (for littering the screen with sponsor logos) it would be the ideal default camera view (with the overhead view as a close second).
6) Here's the exact problem with table- and player-level camera views: 37:27 (27 seconds duration) (I don't think we'll ever know whether or not that ball hit a rail going in, Earl.)
7) 42:16 (24 seconds duration) I'm against the 'deeper shelves' idea. When an object ball is on the rail, (unless you bank it) you *can't* aim for the back of a pocket (as you could in, say, a spot shot). _The _*_mouth_*_ of the pocket is all you have._ So, if you put OB cleanly into the mouth, it should go straight down every time. Neither the shelf nor the shims should be "tinkering" with the success of the shot, in my opinion. Earl tells why here: 42:48 (12 seconds duration)

Alright, here are the drinking game rules:
- Every time Earl complains about the softness of the break shot, you have to drink a shot.
- Every time Earl complains about how easy the table plays, one of your friends has to drink a shot.
- Every time Earl complains about the camera angle, everyone drinks a shot.
If you make it through the first 30 minutes without passing out, you win!
You forgot the jump cue.
Really like your comments and how they are shooting. It helps me a lot. Please quit talking about your table and how dry the tables are. l learn more when you are talking about the players and how they are shooting. You do a good job at that.
Well some players might wanna know and understand how different conditions affect the game
Is there a standard for pocket cuts?
You can find the one defined by the world's governing body for billiards (WPA) on their website (wpapool) under Rules>Equipment Spec - Item #9.
@@marginality270 Wow, a lot of tables have out of spec pockets, including mine.
@@5000rgb I'm pretty sure those specs were selected with professional players in mind. I expect that table manufacturers loosen up the specs on 'general public' tables in hope of selling more of them (to a general public mostly of 'pool patzers').
I assume that mouth size is off-spec most often, but have you noticed others?
@@marginality270 That makes a lot of sense, like golf courses having the tee box for pros behind the tee box for mortals.
Jasmin did foul the break in rack two. Did Sara choose to have Jasmin continue due to being snookered? Is that a rule there?
I believe if a player has a non- compliant break, the "incoming" player has the option to take the table or let the breaker have it back. If you look at the top of the screen after the break, you can see Sara's feet as she looks over the opportunity but gives it back so then Jasmin comes back to the table.

He's not my favorite commentator but he is far from the worst and his honesty (right or wrong) is worth a listen. I thought I would hate him just like I hate watching his tantrums but he made this video more interesting than the level of play.
It's not quite commentary, it's more like Earl's thoughts while watching a match. I think it's awesome to hear the thoughts of a man who was one of the top 5 players on the planet for a couple of decades.
Earl has a God complex! He seems to love reminding all of us mere "amateurs" of what we should be paying attention to while these two are playing.

5:10 It was indeed an illegal break. Rocha gave it back, because there was no shot at the 2 (and she was not allowed to push)

This was my surmise, too.
But, if Rocha isn't allowed to push out in that circumstance, why in East Hell would _Ouschan_ be allowed to do it? As Earl said (13:06 {19 seconds duration}) what, then, is the penalty for the illegal break? To me, it doesn't seem to make sense.
@@marginality270 It's a rule I have seen mostly in Europe in all major tournaments!
If you come to the table because your opponent made an illegal break (3 point rule only. I'm not talking about a scratch or anything like that) you cannot perform a push-out!
Edit: The penalty for an illegal break is that, well, you lose your turn! It's just that Ouschan was lucky here that there was no shot at the next ball! If there was a clear path to the next ball and everything was wide open, you would see the punishment for Ouschan more easy!
@@DBZ-Mousa Yes, you're describing the WPA rule accurately. It just makes no sense to me: You make an illegal break, so YOUR OPPONENT loses push-out privilege. But, *_you_*_ DON'T!_

Actually, you *possibly* lose your turn. I don't consider the *possible* loss of a turn for an _actual_ foul much of a penalty. Especially when the loss is made less likely by the fact that YOUR OPPONENT can't push out of a bad situation.
So, her/his ONLY hope is that the table settles with a clear shot at the low ball. If that doesn't happen -- as in this case -- you get a chance to advantage yourself _further_ (AFTER FOULING THE BREAK!) by pushing to a shot you can use and your opponent possibly can't.
What kind of bass-ackward crazy is this?
If YOU made the bed hard, then YOU should have to sleep in it, not your opponent.
@@marginality270 I think it is "accepted" that (for the most part) if you do not have a clear path to the ball you are shooting, it is better if you are not the one shooting it!

I have an Olhausen at home which plays impossibly difficult - it will rattle anything less than perfect, and ruin your momentum in a heartbeat... I know exactly what Earl's talking about with these table conditions... shit I might be the greatest player of all time, the way I see some pros dog balls and they still slide down the rail and into the buckets smh
Same here.. I went from an eight foot Brunswick to a nine foot Olhausen a few years ago and was ready to break my cue many times. On the plus side it’ll make us better players
I have an Olhausen that also rattles a lot of balls. I'd rather have tighter pockets that are harder to hit than have pockets that spit balls out. I'll probably replace the rails and cut the facings different with smaller pockets.
He says he wishes the table was 12ft long so you can't play with an open bridge. Well in snooker the table is 12ft and is a predominantly open bridged game. Makes no sense. Open bridges work great with a solid form and stroke.
Im glad I'm not the only one who heard that bs. Earl talks nonsense with a few pearls of knowledge from time to time.

Earl has lost interest. At first he was the best play-by-play guy in the sport, now he's devolved into mostly arrogance with the occasional tangent into a rant about tennis, jumpcues, how great a game straight pool is, etc. He seemed especially disinterested watching the women play.

2 rack looked like illegal break. One in, only one past the head string. Unless passing middle pocket is the rule here?
Only one in so two have to pass the middle pocket but since only one dropped and one went in, yes, illegal break so, Sara has the option to take or give it back and she opted to give it back that's why Jasmin remained at the table. If you look at the top of the screen after the break, you can see Sara's feet as she looks over the opportunity but gives it back so then Jasmin comes back to the table.

all of women players out there playing with a very unnatural and stiff stroke, it is painful to watch Jasmin shooting every shoot, very stiff and uncomfortable posture, feel like she is pulling all of her muscle every shoot. There is one exception, SIMING CHEN - her fundamental is top notch for a pool player in general, smooth silky stroke and bridge every time, go watch her.
Sounds like you've never watched Chezka Centeno play. If you haven't, by all means do. I'll be very surprised if watching her play doesn't delight you as much as it does me.
@@marginality270 Chezka is a natural talent, just like all other Phillipino pool players, they play by “feel”, no aiming or diamond system craps, they are good because they eat sleep and shooting pool every day. What she lacking is a true fundamental like Siming, so when she having a bad day or if her “feel” is gone, she will be struggling big time. In pool, those moments are key decision to make a champion, or just another good player. Having a good fundamental is a key, you can always rely on. Siming vs Chezka in a long race, Chezka will have no chance. No other women pool players come close to Siming as of now. Long way to go for TKach to be able to challenge Siming

(As just one example: If "you can always rely on" good fundamentals to counteract a bad day, then we should have _thousands_ of "champions" in the world. Instead, what we have is hundreds of examples of "just another good player". Plus, even if it's true that "no other women pool players come close to Siming as of now", her performance against *men* is lackluster. Why don't her good fundamentals serve her well with them? Are 'good fundamentals' against women different from 'good fundamentals' against men?)
We can agree that Chen Siming is formidable, no doubt about it. (Tkach is okay, but, from what i've seen of her, she doesn't even deserve mention in a discussion about Siming and Centeno.) And, i don't mean to discount Chen in any way, because she is definitely at the top of my list of favorites. But, i'd favor Chezka on her average day against MOST people -- man or woman. And, i'd rather watch her play _any_ day.

Siming can beat almost all male players out there, l forgot her Fargo rating but it should be between 750 to 700. Because she is a female, if u want a true Fargo rate you must minus that to 25-30 because her records are mostly against other females (not sure if Fargo already did that). Yeah she not performing well against top 50 male players but she beat a lot of them as well - those are in her Fargo range… Talking Tkach vs Chezka, I think it will be a good match, race to 25 I’ll pick Tkach.

*All **_other_** things being equal, "good fundamentals" will ultimately triumph over "feeling".*
...what are you using for evidence?
I've heard a lot of people place higher value on "good fundamentals" over "playing by 'feel'", but i've never once heard them support that claim with even _evidence,_ let alone proof.
"Fundamentals" were devised, in the first place, so that most anyone could get closer to the results that naturally talented people got. Now, some people want to claim that the "fundamental" process is better than natural talent -- probably, because it is easier for them to see and understand compared to what "Feelers" do. It likely does yield better results for untalented people, but there isn't even any _indication_ that using those "fundamentals" would do any good at all for people who are naturally talented and don't need them.

What, Earl is one of the best commentator. Many can learn from his commentating. He knows the game and he is giving us probably the best way to play pool.
