If the date on the board is any indication, it's only 10yrs old but obviously been quite used {a good thing!!} and possibly exposed to dampness/humidity typical of a gig rigs. I have always loved the Orange OR series sound. I have its baby brother, an OR-15. The original MatAmps and early Orange amps were the sound of Wishbone Ash. If your old enough to have heard them live playing the song F.U.B.B. or have the album "There's the Rub" on vinyl, it's sonically an "ear opening" experience. Sorry for my flashback rant. Either way, it's in good hands now to live on.
@ 5:01 that little pointer tapping on the circuit board is like a woodpecker tapping on a transformer on a pole; it is inevitable that he's gonna get his light turned off 😂😀😆🤣 from: Scranton, Pennsylvania
When cleaning off stuff like that ground lug what is your thoughts on using something like a glass fibre pencil to abrasively clean off the gunk and smooth it off a touch. Obviously it will need a good clean after but it seems like a good way to get a nice clean pad at the end.
I have a 2013 OR 100 with a hum. Mostly on gain channel, increases with volume. I just put in new tubes from euro tubes (pre & power)and reset the bias hoping that would eliminate it (I just acquired the amp about a yr ago so figured it should be done anyways). The hum is still present. I’m no tech, I looked for any loose grounds or visible issues but didn’t really find any. I don’t have any scratch on any of the potentiometers.
My OR50 hummed but it was picky about what house it was plugged into. The transformer in it is a vintage rebuild of an old transformer made around the time of the OR80's. I think it has something to do with that transformer. The hum wasn't noticeable when playing and changed with the master volume and gain. I'd be more worried about a hum that didn't go away with the volume down or while playing. I used single coils BTW so I was already used to it's hum.
@@johanhansson4574 vdc ripple on the filaments...??? LOL! Even if the fils. are vdc, (doubtful and the schema is worthless) there would not be dc ripple on them. Bad ground reference, crappy pots, all contribute to noisy grids.

The OR100 was on the market from 2013 to 2015 or 2016 I think - it went off the market around the time they started selling the Rockerverb 100 MKIII. The board has a 2012 date on it, not sure if that's a manufacturing date specifically.
Due to the regularity with which Orange refreshes its product line this is already no longer a current production Orange.🙃 (Although I don't doubt their current heads are constructed very similarly)
I’ve never tried playing an Orange amp. Wouldn’t mind, just to see. I’d never buy one though because the aesthetics are just far too off-putting for my taste.

This has been my main gigging amp for over a decade, it's a great pedal platform- great clean channel.

Excellent wishbone ash were excellent live with the orange amp pilgrimage and Argus wishbone 4
Yay! An Orange!
Iv'e owned 3 orange amps 2 of which have been plagued with problems, the third (MK Ultra) was awesome

Those quick connects have a locking mechanism. You just need to squeeze them in the middle and they come off easily.
Who's a good amp tech around Montgomery Al.

definitely the coolest looking amps, the Retro 50 is one of the better Oranges
Any follow up on this? Was there a resolution to the hum?
Did the dual pot cure the noise?
I’ve been trying to track down a schematic for this amp
What crazy pcb program does Orange use?
Very interesting indeed 😎👍
Hey, Lyle. Just sent you an email about getting my AC30 serviced. Have a great weekend!
Wow!!! My or50 is so much easier to work on!!. Supprising!! Awesome video.
Nice, I’ve never heard an orange amp. When this is done, I hope you let it rip. I enjoy listening to great sounding music.
They sound great. The OR100 is my favorite two channel they ever made.
Why don't you humbuck the filament wires..?
I would guess that the filament is DC. And the buzz doesn't sound like DC ripple. It sounds like a bad connection.

I was just looking at orange amps and wondering about their construction, quality, and reliability? Any opinions?
I’d check out Matamp/Green amps instead. They were the original company that made Orange.
Matamps are all point to point. Much higher quality. No PCB to pull. Hand made.
This channel has other videos on Orange amps where he talks about those things. He may also mention them in his "Amps Under..." videos.
Yes. The old ones are arguably of superior quality and more tech friendly. They are now highly sought after for guitarists of the "Doom" metal genre.

Very weird huh. Only on that one wire. There must be a story behind it.

My guess: An attempt at hum cancelling.

what was the problem?
Not a very exciting build. The pots cheap 16mm? How’s the board quality?
As always I’m learning from your patience with these things
How old is that particular amp?
I don't know.
