I had the original 5150 with the EVH signature on it and it was definitely and awesome amp but I sold it because I didn't need 120 watts of power + it killed my spine when I had to lift it..got the EVH Stealth 50 watt head and it is just an incredible amp..way more juicy and less sterile than my 5150-3 50 watt head..and it can sound great even at lower volumes if needed + it weighs about 8-10 lbs less than the Peavey 5150 which helps out my bad back...I know there are costlier amps out there but for me the Stealth 50 watt head is best for what i need.. excellent video comparison of 2 great amplifier Euge.

Both sound pretty damn great but as you have mentioned a few times, the larger xfrmrs, power and headroom usually makes for a more loaded, throatier sound. I also think the block letter is a little more even across the mids as well. I may not be a physics guy, but with hardware, you have to think there's some math to why this is lol

The stealth you gotta crank the resonance knob on the back. Same with the other 50w series 5150iiis. Whole amp comes alive like a monster. Used to not like these amps until I found that out

Great video, like always :) If you would compare EVH 5150 III 50w STEALTH to 20W jcm 800 (Marshall Studio Classic SC20H) for band practice (metal, hard rock). Would SC20H be neck to neck with EVH or is EVH hand down just better option for this? Not sure if my question makes any sense :) Which one would you prefer?

    • @EugeValovirta230V
      @EugeValovirta230V  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks!
It depends what you’re looking & what you need. 800 is a one channel beast and doesn’t have much gain but boosted with overdrive (my fav is Boss SD-1) it’s the best sound in the world IMO 😎. Has that classic British style EL34 character.
EVH amps have tons of gain and great clean channel so if you’re looking for versatility then those might work better. They have more low end and that American style 6L6 character.
      Both are really loud 👍.

    Your 5150 block is modded...
So this is really Stealth VS modded 5150 :/
I have 2 blocks, a Stealth 50 and the Stealth 100. The blue and green channels in the 50 are updated from the 100.
The blocks sound quite a bit different from the Stealths in my case. They have different preamp tubes, but still.
I don't like the Stealth 100, mainly because it is way to big. The 50 is super convenient because of size. My main block is my favorite, but the Stealth 50 is nice too.. And best of all, it's more convenient.

Yeah but the mods doesn’t that big effect on the overall sound but the feel. At least IMO. I compared it to stock 6505s if you interested so please check out my Tube Amps - playlist 😎.
      Personal preferences 👌😊.

@@EugeValovirta230VI've checked the video and others. Despite what I hear in videos, my blocks sound different than other amps. I've compared at home with several 6505 and 5150ii amps that I've owned. One particular block sounds amazing, that I got from Daisy from M. Manson.
Also, it doesn't make a difference in every amp, but I have Beijing Shuguang square foil getter preamp tubes (the originals) in my blocks.. And for some reason, those tubes make a difference in those amps... But they make 0 difference in the Stealth for example. BTW, they also make a huge impact in the JCM800. Not necessarily better but very different. Much more presence than RFT or whatever.
People say tubes dint matter, but it could be different in different amps. For me, sometimes the difference is there and others not.
Whatever the case, my blocks have more grit and different feel than the 6505's.
The only changes in my main block were that the long blue resistor that mimics a choke burned out and I changed it, the presence knob broke and I changed it, and one transistor. All the parts came from peavey though. Not sure if it made a difference or not. It only sounds 2% better than my other block... Most people wouldn't notice. Maybe not in a recording between both amps... But in a switcher, one just has "more" than the other. The 6505's were a bit duller by comparison, but some of the parts are different. The 650 has typical, encased pots. The blocks don't. The pots are open, without a metal case. They say the pots are the same except for the casing, but maybe the non-encased ones are more succeotibke to noise, which can affect the top end.
I forgot to mention that I shielded the bottom of my second block letter against EMF because I live near a cellphone tower. That blocked the interference, but it could have slightly changed the tone... I'm not sure. It's very difficult to go back and forth modding your amps to quantify the differences. Just no time! 😂

Is that a new white Tolex shell on your original 5150 block letter? Or just new Tolex?

@@EugeValovirta230V hey man, i have the g-string decimator and tried using it the way you are in front of the amp. Works ok. But i use it it the effects loop now, like they recommend, and its so much quieter man. Just saying 🤘✌

    • @EugeValovirta230V

      Whatever works 😎👌.
I don’t have much gain going on on my amps (and my old 800s don’t even have a loop) so no need to have any noise suppressing going on in there but just after the od to get rid of the small hiss 👌. So I’m not using noise suppressor as a gate but just to get rid of the hiss from SD-1.
And I use a lot less gain than people usually think. Whenever someone’s playing with my rig the first question is usually ”Man where’s the gain?”.
Play lightly and it sounds light, play heavy and it sounds heavy 😎💪. It’s all about the dynamics 👌.

@@rickfennell7849 you run the G-String through front of amp and through the loop simultaneously, works well because it tracks your guitar signal from the front of the amp.... If i had option of just in front or in loop i'd put it in front.

Great video Euge! I think the main difference between the 2 is that one is a 50w amp and one is a 120w amp. The 5150 sounds bigger and a little darker and the 5150iii sounds a little thinner and seems to have more highs. Both sound great, especially with the SD-1. Have a great week brother 🤘🤘
