  • gardnertackle.... There are a number of knots that are commonly used for connecting leaders and mainlines - so when we received enquiries from customers asking how best to connect Kinetic Distance Braid to our new braided Sinking Shock Leader we thought we’d best shoot a quick video to show you the one that most of our team use day to day. It’s called the Mahin Knot (sometimes referred to as the Carrot Knot) and in this short video Lewis takes you through how to tie this knot in the strongest form he knows. When tied and bedded down nicely the Mahin has a nice tapered shape, that naturally flows through rod rings smoothly whilst retaining good knot strength.

What is that thicker part above the doubled portion of Kinetic braid clearly seen at 0.38?

Hi Jos, thanks for the message. That is our Kinetc Sinking Shock Leader

Not that side, the mainline side. He doubles over the braid and seems to have made a knot to keep them together. Well it's the thicker part above that knot. At 0:29 it can also be seen. From left to right on the screen: Kinetic shock leader - Mahin knot - doubled Kinetic mainline - knot - and then something thicker.

Hi Jos, thanks for the message. That's the Bimini Twist that has been formed in the Kinetic Distance braid (video coming soon on how to tie this). This is not essential but it does strengthen the knot, however it does make it slightly bulky. We hope this helps.
