Technically, the answer to the question posed in the title of the video is *NO*. DeleteMe does NOT really erase your online data. It only makes your data temporarily invisible to the public. The data brokers do NOT actually delete your data from their servers as a result of actions by an individual or the DeleteMe service. The data on data broker servers remains there, but is tagged as 'not viewable' on their website. This means they can sell their database to another company, or the broker can create a new company with a new name and your data will once again be publicly visible. This is why data brokers never use the terms 'Delete Request'. They always use the terms 'Opt Out Request' or 'Removal Request'. I wouldn't be surprised if some attorney starts a class action lawsuit against DeleteMe for that very reason. Their service does not actually delete your data. They should have named their company HideMe or something like that to avoid misleading people.
Ok? But that isn’t even a problem with Deleteme. That’s a problem with the data brokers. And hiding your data from the general public is still very valuable even if the servers still have it. Most people aren’t going to go into the deep corners of the internet to search for you. Hiding the data from the top sites is enough, especially for the average person.

Look into Kanary. All three that you listed state that they share your data with partnering companies which includes analytic and marketing companies. Incogni specifically states Google as the company that they are partnered with for the analytics and that you need to read Google's privacy policy to know how they share your info. BTW, Google will without a doubt share and sell your data again. Kanary was one of the only ones I could find that had a very short and clear privacy policy stating that they don't share or sell your data to anyone else. you can search for the data brokers & do it yourself for free. It takes many hours and you won't find them all. This company & ones like it do the hard work for you. it costs them money to do it.
Let's say that data broker X has some information about you, which is "removed." What stops these same brokers, who are constantly buying and selling information among themselves, from simply re-acquiring and re-publishing it?
Hopefully, we can go after "data brokers" like we can with spam callers. We, in the US, can go after spam callers for up to $1500. We need something with teeth that makes it unprofitable or risky to keep our data.
When a broker removes the info, what's stopping them from adding it back again later? Does the request include a clause to keep it off for a period of time, or does the service re-submit removal requests every so often?
Excellent question, HT2. I believe there are 2 aspects of your personal data within the context of a data broker. One aspect is your data residing on the broker's server. The other aspect is the public display of your data on the broker's website. When you, or a removal service, requests that your data be "removed", you are ONLY addressing aspect 2. In other words, after the removal request your data still resides on their server, but it is tagged as not publicly viewable. The data broker is then able to create a new company, or sell the database to another company, which uses the original database with all of the tags removed. This is why the data brokers refer to such a request as an 'opt out' or 'removal' request. You will never see a data broker refer to it as a 'delete' request. Bottom line: NOTHING is actually being deleted as a result of your request. This is a big game of wack-a-mole until Congress creates consumer protection legislation to put an end to the game.
Great vid - just a skeptical question... how does DeleteMe manage data? Is there any way they (the company themselves) harvest data from anyone using their service? For instance, is paying for the service classed as giving them 'permission' to use or otherwise process your data? Would be pretty ironic if companies like DeleteMe & Incogni turned out to be massive data collection agencies that're trying to 'legally' obtain the data of millions of people through the back door. In essence, condense those hundreds of data collection agencies down to just a small handful... & charge Joe Blogs for the privilege. Interested to hear your thoughts on this Bro 🤔
@@AllThingsSecured how about a video on using these kinds of services-Hushed or Google voice? Or using the cheapest burner phone number as a way to limit real data?
I noticed you said that you have to answer questions to confirm your identity via their online portal. Obviously they are making money from subscriptions. Thanks for the thorough video. Question though: you sort of touched on this when you mentioned “facebook” deletion, but I am an actor with online reviews, links, personal website, etc. I WOULD NOT want any of that deleted. I do not want to be totally erased from the internet. The only info I’m interested in having removed is birthdate/ address/ phone number/etc. So, just to confirm: deleteme will only delete personal information such as that? It will not erase the content associated with my name that I actually want online, such as personal website, reviews, social media, etc.? Thank you

I believe your response about "reduces Junk Mail?" seems to be more about physical mail. Here in Canada I seem to get little to no junk mail ... maybe it has to do with how our mail carriers handle things here. My question is how well does it reduce spam and phishing e-mails, if it does at all. I have this weekly barrage of some of the very same email subject lines, but i know they use constantly different email source names … I constantly tried Microsoft blocking and reporting features, even making Rules to delete certain subject line words (trust me Microsoft, I don't ever want an email from ChristianMingle or SilverSingles, delete them without question!), but for some reason the rules don't appear to be working. I'm wondering if DeleteMe will even make a dent into this issue.
There’s a degree to which a service like DeleteMe can reduce email spam and phishing. A lot of this is on YOU. How you use and give out your email is the best way to reduce spam.

deleteme cannot remove voter records. deleteme cannot remove info from every single data broker. new ones pop up all the time. depending on the state, the government may release voter info out in the wild. the more private option unfortunately is not to vote. the even more private option is to de-register from voting altogether. sadly, voting has a certain risk. some people are willing to take that risk and that is understandable, depending on your situation and willingness for having some level of public info is out there on you.

The one question not answered: How much does it really cost in terms of money? Are there any costs above the service plan chosen? $129 a year doesn't seem that bad.
What other costs would there be? I haven't paid anything other than the $129 per year. Not sure if that answers your question?
The others are half that.

Do they put all your info back if you cancel your subscription?
This is a really good question.
Can you do a comparison between Delete Me and Incogni?
Hi Josh. My computer and phone were just hacked, spammed, scammed, and funds were taken out sent abroad on giftcards. They have all my info. I'm trying to get Apple to investigate but have to call again because the rep's response was "well this happens all the time". What company do you suggest that will help me find my data. Deleteme? Look forward to your response.
Please reply. Who does the best job, DeleteMe, Optery, or Incogni?
Not Delete Me.
Everything is handled by themselves for marketing and analytics.
Lifelock is with Norton 360 now and they do the same thing. I am currently trying deleteme right now for one year but I think I’m going to cancel and continue this with Lifelock / Norton 360. Crazy how much of our info is out there
So crazy. 😜
Lifelock is garbage. My friend got screwed by them. Her identity was stolen and they didnt help or reimburse her
Delete me appears to be good and how they do each site and confirm with you but they keep on going up on the price they told me it was $99 I just looked at now is 169 and they make you do it for 2 years
Why should I have to pay to remove something that shouldn’t have been up in the first place? 😤😤
you can do it yourself for free . deleteme and others provide a service. services cost money
you can search for the data brokers & do it yourself for free. It takes many hours and you won't find them all. This company & ones like it do the hard work for you.
it costs them money to do it.
lets put your info out there, then charge you to remove it.. shampoo rinse repeat
So is the data deleted? Or is the data blocked?
The services are required to delete the data or face legal consequences.
Let's say that data broker X has some information about you, which is "removed." What stops these same brokers, who are constantly buying and selling information among themselves, from simply re-acquiring and re-publishing it?
That happens all the time. That's one of the primary reasons why I have DeleteMe continuing to scan for data that pops up again.
Nothing.
What’s there website ?
Will deleteme reduce spam emails?
Hopefully, we can go after "data brokers" like we can with spam callers. We, in the US, can go after spam callers for up to $1500. We need something with teeth that makes it unprofitable or risky to keep our data.
What options are available in a situation where a contact list has been hacked from a email provider and now on Dark Web, I assume ?
Hello, I am from India. I want to use this service. But DeleteMe is not available in our country. Any similar alternative for us?
Does a service like DeleteMe help address privacy leaks from data breaches (e.g. Luxottica)? Thanks for such a great channel!
@@randym4917 oh okay... so basically we're fucked?
@@randym4917 Soooo.....removal services don't really do much for you, do they?

How do I convert my current phone number to a virtual phone number?
Port it to something like Hushed or Google Voice.

HI THERE , can you please confirm Delete Me require us to provide ID card on profile ? thank you so much
they need your info so they know what to find.
We live in Orwellian times.
I noticed you said that you have to answer questions to confirm your identity via their online portal. Obviously they are making money from subscriptions. Is it within the realm of possibility that a company like this is taking the identity info you are confirming to them and then posting your info on these various sites, therefore giving them more work to do and thus insuring that they are making a steady stream of $$$ from you by continuing to use their services?
If they weren't, they'd be a terrible company to their shareholder base.
Everything is garbage in the world, expect the worst and never engage with your neighbours.
I'm curious if your info from those data brokers get removed how likely does it get readded later on and if that happens is there a way to trace that info to what service you used selling them that info.
It does happen all the time, which is why I always have DeleteMe monitoring on my behalf. And as far as I know, there's not a good way to trace where the data comes from.
How does deleteme compare to optery?
I'm considering Optery. Is it good?

Thanks for the thorough video. Question though: you sort of touched on this when you mentioned “facebook” deletion, but I am an actor with online reviews, links, personal website, etc. I WOULD NOT want any of that deleted. I do not want to be totally erased from the internet. The only info I’m interested in having removed is birthdate/ address/ phone number/etc. So, just to confirm: deleteme will only delete personal information such as that? It will not erase the content associated with my name that I actually want online, such as personal website, reviews, social media, etc.? Thank you
Correct. DeleteMe couldn't delete that other information even if they wanted to. They only search the data brokers for your personal information to be deleted.
Thanks for the video! Are there any alternatives to Delete Me for clients not in the US?

dose this work in the UK?
No.
How you use and give out your email is the best way to reduce spam.
how did they remove your data from some webpage ? if they dont have acces to page ?
how it works if you have personal data and bussines data with same name as personal ?
Is there a service that is actually decent?

@@AllThingsSecured apparantly. I contacted google and requested that I not be found in their search engine. I only had to provide all the URLs where I saw my personal info. I found seven so far. I also contacted the credit bureau regarding alerts that they were showing my info was shared.
@@littlebitobrandy4099 the thing with Google is, they only show the results of your information being searched. Google itself does not have your information. So, even if Google removes the URLs, the data broker companies still have your information in THEIR databases, in which your information can (and will) be repopulated back on the internet.
This is why services such as DeleteMe exist.
they collect data from public sources. Court records, county property records, others. Once they have it, they can sell it legally.
anybody can look at the data if they know where it is.

I'm not sure I understand the question. This is for personal use (erasing your home address, home phone number, etc.), not for a business.

@@DNOD1983 That's an interesting question. There is a copy of each of my privacy reports that remains in my dashboard, so those aren't deleted. DeleteMe says it's for US citizens only, and data brokers seem like more of a US thing, but you say you're in Thailand... As far as I know, data brokers are illegal here. Would it still be worth it in that case? Is there a possibility my data has shown up on those sites anyway? 🤔

Fax, by nature, is insecure. The secure form of fax is called encrypted email 😉
@@AllThingsSecured Thank you for your reply, I was thinking the same thing.
This seems like a semi scam. I mean, companies aren't obligated to listen to DeleteMe's requests, since companies have no way of knowing if it was actually you asking DeleteMe to remove records. So they can just ignore DeleteMe's requests.

deleteme cannot remove voter records. deleteme cannot remove info from every single data broker. new ones pop up all the time.
depending on the state, the government may release voter info out in the wild. the more private option unfortunately is not to vote. the even more private option is to de-register from voting altogether. sadly, voting has a certain risk. some people are willing to take that risk and that is understandable, depending on your situation and willingness for having some level of public info is out there on you.
So your answer is to simply not vote??
strange comment… what’s the location of this device??
should have a better price for people outside the US since those data brokers mainly target US residents
Think of an acre of land that's a gravel pit. All those rocks are someone (or something) with your information. Companies like Deleteme are like a person with a shovel removing those rocks one bucketful at a time. Sadly, he does not see the guy who removes the bucket, runs around the pile, and throws those rocks right back in.
Why should any company honor a data delete request coming from some 3rd party company? Even more, if I was a CSO of a company, I would reject all such requests.
No you wouldn't. If you read the privacy policy of most websites/companies, you'll know that they are obligated to remove your data upon request.
@@AllThingsSecured Sure, but on YOUR request, not by request of some 3rd party company. So these companies get tens of thousands of opt-out requests a week. Thus..they have simple opt out forms. How are you verifying who is filling out the form? And is it information I could just give to DeleteMe to fill out the form with? Please note...these sites usually don't have SSNs, Driver License Numbers, or any other PII to confirm it is you..they just have the record you are requesting to have removed. That login portal must be really addictive to a paranoid user.
Why can't deleteme remove/close/cancel your facebook account? You're giving them the authority to remove data in your name already so why couldn't they do it if you give them your mail (which they already have) and your password and just delete it?
If you want to delete your Facebook account, the last thing you want to do is trust somebody else to do it, especially when it’s really not that complicated.
@@AllThingsSecured Isn’t that what deleteme should do and why you’re using and paying for this service? But Thanks for the answer, basically they can’t do it, although this could be automated via API as well, like everything else deleteme does.
I have a feeling it would be easier for me to go to 50 social media sites and put in my username and password, and delete the account....then filling out a form on DeleteMe with 50 different passwords and URLs... And if people are using the same username and password for 50 different social media sites with no MFA enabled....they have a lot of other security concerns to be worried about.
