I’ve come to like the European better in time . When my kids where small and we’d end up on a roundabout somewhere I’d say “ Look kids , Big Ben” . They would start looking around and couldn’t figure why I was laughing 😂…. Good times.
@@samuel4286 Yeah, aside from the silly green screen Clark swinging through the dam by the dam electrical wires... Other than that one dam scene, damn, Vegas Vacation is great. Miles above European Vacation, though still obviously lesser than the original and Christmas Vacation.
They even poked fun at that in Vegas Vacation when Clark says “you kids are growing up so fast I don’t even recognize you anymore” and there’s a long pause of Clark staring at Audrey and Rusty in confusion like he really doesn’t recognize them anymore because Rusty & Audrey have been played by more actors than James Bond & Batman lol
@pythonfan1 and Co hosted with him. Though the fact she was still working with him would probably suggest that Chevy wasn't as much as an A-hole as he was in other films/shows
Well done on this video, absolutely excellent. 1st time l saw NLV was at my neighbour’s house, his Father had just bought a new VCR. Those were the days. Had to wait 2 years before my Father bought a new VCR. I worked that Phillips twin head VCR hard for years, never failed.
The first and the best of the vacation movies. Chevy Chase was born to play Uptight dad Clark Griswold. Also the Holiday Road by Lindsay Buckingham really fits well in this movie then it does in the 2nd movie.
Yeah, National Lampoon's Vacation is a classic, I remember my first time watching it as a kid............Chevy Chase is something else, how many run ins he's done had with cast members, producers and directors.
Man this movies we such a big part of my childhood ..loved this , Christmas and even Vegas so much...great video..look forward to the next one ...I hope it's the breakfast club.
Great thorough retrospective! FYI: At 13:42 that's not Lindsey Buckingham, in fact he's not even in that photo. That is Fleetwood Mac right after he had left the band, following the release of Tango In The Night.
Great video! Gave me some major flashbacks of that summer when Vacation was in the theaters. Btw the clip you showed of Lindsay Buckingham was actually a photo of guitarist Billy Burnette, who was in Fleetwood Mac from 1987-1995. Anyway, Thanx for the memories & keep this cool stuff comin.
And the dream sequences on the airplane,in the second film, were probably the funniest part of the whole movie. And the reboot sucked? Idk if ppl know wtf is actually funny anymore. Chevy Chase going through stale contractually obligated films, like European, Vegas Vacation movies. Retreading the same stupid Clarke, minus the comedic intensity,or timing,or emotion for that matter of the 1st film, and the Christmas Vacation. They say that the reboot wasn't necessary,or needed. No it wasn't. But as a comedy, yes it was, because it was very funny! The Griswold's going to Europe wasn't needed either, and was even less funnier than the reboot. And there definitely was not any need for a Vegas movie, which was at this point stale, boring, actually hard to even sit through. The Christmas film was actually needed,it was different, they were home, and new elements were introduced,it was new to see them at home living their day to day lives with an overcrowded house of relatives, and some very funny Clarke family Christmas traditions..Even just getting the tree was hilarious. But the reboot had a plot,a story, and it was Rusty taking his family on one of those family vacations that his father would take them on as kids, and at every stop was a descent laugh,or joke,or scenario,or great cameo, I mean this may or may not have been a cash grab to reboot, but it was funny as hell, and easy to get through. It's even very rewatchable. Lastly,it puts European, and Vegas Vacation to shame. Unless you're a complete Chevy Chase mark ,and believe that without Chevy,(which he did cameo in), it's no good. Well I'll tell you,he was great in the 1st Vacation and Christmas Vacation, after that, and in between I should say,he really wasn't that great,or that funny. By Vegas Vacation, Clarke's humor was stale and fizzled miserably, playing second flute to Randy Quaid s Cousin Eddie,as he had become the funnier character in the series, replacing the top billed Chase, for the main source,if any I remember, laughs in the film. A 40 or so year career making millions, becoming at this point an icon of comedy, playing the same character in every role. This is something that an actor really couldn't get away with today, and have a lifelong career in film doing. But I will get into that another time. Chevy Chase is not a good actor at all, anyone could've been Clarke Griswold, and if they were a real actor, you may have laughed more,or harder. Think about this, you could've been Clarke W Griswold. "Okay just act like a moron, completely oblivious to yourself, your family,or your surroundings,ready,3,2,1, action! How hard is that? Well how many movies has Chase starred in? That's how hard it is. I just want to say I have become more and more in love with this channel over the past year or so I've been watching. WTF HAPPENED TO THIS ACTOR/ACTRESS is my favorite series, though I like all of them!
That scene where they was having a picnic and clark was dancing around and flirting with Christine brinkley with that sandwich had me crying with laughter
I remember seeing this in the theater. I didn't even know roller coasters existed and how excited I was watching it. Not sure what my mom thought of R-rated stuff corrupted her children, but I didn't recall any of it.
When my kids were young and I returned from the Gulf War, I ended up taking my crew on several US coast to coast trips...and man...did I feel like Clark Griswold! Hilarious....

Guns can come in handy on road trips.. some asshole pounded on my hotel door one time in the middle of the night and if he hadn't stopped I was going to fire a shot at the bottom of the door..lol
While most American families had better luck with their vacations than the Griswolds, the family’s dynamic is instantly recognizable. Many of us knew what was coming when Mom said “Dad is on vacation next week.”
The scene that got censored here on Australian FTA TV was when Ellen eats the boloney sandwich at picnic and comments about the "melted cheese" enhancing the flavour. I'm wondering if that follow up to "bop your bologny" gag went over everybody's head, obviously other than the censorship board?
Nothing beats the original, but Christmas Vacation comes close. Would've loved a Hughes directed sequel with the original cast instead of European Vacation. I'm really curious what that film could've been. Vegas Vacation was fine; I did get a kick out of Clark referencing different actors always playing Russ and Audrey, "You guys are growing up so fast, I hardly recognize you anymore!"
In my opinion christmas vacation is not as funny but has more heart. You see this with clark watching his old xmas films and being tearful about the memories even though his childhood christmas were far from perfect. Also, Eddies kids talking about how they always have a crappy xmas and clark trying to give them a better xmas because they are family. I watch christmas vacation every year with my kids, they and I love it.
The original, G R E A T. I laugh in all the scenes. But European Vacation is funnier, hilarious. My best commercial comedy since I saw it in the 80's .
I think this was the best of the Vacation movies I've seen, but I did like European Vacation and Christmas Vacation too. I never saw any of the others
Don't watch the Vegas one it's not bad just not that good either
Ah q
I’d say Vegas vacation is better than European
I’ve come to like the European better in time . When my kids where small and we’d end up on a roundabout somewhere I’d say “ Look kids , Big Ben” . They would start looking around and couldn’t figure why I was laughing 😂…. Good times.

jeez, the lovely lovely lovely Beverly D'Angelo....in great old hilarious movies
Long live Chevy Chase, one of the iconic actors ever in movies.
A 20 minute love letter to the film and you end it by giving it a 4 out of 5? That's 80%. This movie deserves better than 80%.
This movie is a masterpiece of the 80s.
The reviewers opinion is nuclear dog terds.
This movie and Christmas Vacation are the best of the Vacation franchise.
The soundtracks were great. Holiday road was fantastic.
I liked the gimmick of the child actors switching between movies, as if to illustrate how Clark forgot what his own children looked like.
Yeah that was always one of my favorite things to and how they switch who is the oldest in Christmas vacation
Just like Chevy Chase
No like almost every parent and guardian@@JadedMax
I can't help but LOL at the thought of a puberty-stricken Hall desperately trying to sneak onto set for the topless scene 😂 Can't say I blame him!
Ah, all you have to do is watch the movie. You'll see plenty.
This movie is a masterpiece.
Man Chevy is probably my favorite comedy actor from that era. Even his role in "you can call me al" music video
Christmas Vacation is a must Christmas movie. I love this movie too, great way to start a series
Clarks face, when realising that rusty is over taking him, in the run towards wally world. Classic. And not forgetting the saloon scene
One of my top 10 fav comedies of all time ! TY for this upload
One of the best Comedy's of the 80's and anybody can relate we all be on vacation where it doesn't go well
The scene where James keach gives Chevy the dog lead was one of the funniest things I ever watched 😂😂😂
I laughed..and then I cried... with laughter
ironically he would almost play the same role in Moving Violations...
"Do you know what the penalty is for animal cruelty is in this state?"
"No sir, I don't!"
"Well, it's probably pretty stiff."
The way Chevy squints and pretends to be upset is unreal😂
Awesome video. I’ve always loved this movie.
Glad you enjoyed it
Everybody must just love National Lampoons vacation. They are the true history in comedy =)
St Louis scene is both funny and accurate. Chevy Chase is a comedic legend and the film is a masterpiece.
I'd have to say 5 out of 5. It's the benchmark Family travel movie. The bar.
Chevy Chase has been called a asshole by so many people they probably study him in proctology school.
"You usin' the full fist doc?"
I wonder how Goldie Hawn had to deal with him since they were in two different movies together.
@pythonfan1 and Co hosted with him. Though the fact she was still working with him would probably suggest that Chevy wasn't as much as an A-hole as he was in other films/shows
I love this movie! One of my favourite comedies!
The Wagon Queen Family Truckster is the way to go. You think you hate it now, but just wait until you drive it.
"Metallic Pea" was a beautiful color choice for that model.
Out of the 6 films in the series, I think National Lampoon’s Christmas vacation and national lampoons vacation are tied for the best

Them getting carjacked was one of the funniest scenes in the movie haha unreal
Just watched this again on DVD last night, still funny! Caddie Shack is another one.
Brings me back...
Christmas Vacation will always be the best.

"That's not a real gun is it Clark."
"What are you kidding this is a Magnum PI"
That has to be the best line in the whole movie.
The nightmares are the fun of road trips. When you fly you have nothing to talk about. On a road trip the journey is the most exciting part.

National lampoon's class reunion is EPIC used to have in on Video back in the day "BOB SAYS YOU'VE GOT TO HAVE JELLO 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The "Vaction" inspired Old Navy Christmas commercials from a few years back are hilarious
They bring back multiple Audreys and Rustys
They were funnier than the 2015 film
Holy shit, that was Jane Krakowski? Mind - blown.
I know!
Before even Ally McBeal; wow!
Dear god I love this movie.
Eugene Levy is a classic car salesman!
He gave them the family truckster.
Australian vacation sounds good, I like em all even Vegas
A legendary movie!
Loved the movie.
Loved your package better. Good stuff.
I had provably watched this movie 74 times before I noticed how he was cleaning the dishes.
love this movie
When my kids were young and I returned from the Gulf War, I ended up taking my crew on several US coast to coast trips...and man...did I feel like Clark Griswold! Hilarious....
Well done
That scene still make my specker pick up.
Vegas Vacation gets a lot of flack but I really like that movie.
It's a great time capsule of how Vegas was when it was still a somewhat small city...
I should give it another shot. First time I honestly found it so dull I didn't make it to the end.
I don't see why Ramis regrets the hubcap scene when that is something that has happened to more than one person I know when driving in a rough part of a city.
Does he regret the "Mind if we dance with your dates?" scene from Animal House too? RIP Harold.
Joblo instructed Chevy Chase on how to be Suave smooth and sophisticated at all times.
The Family Truckster.
John Candy was part of Toronto's Second City troupe (photo @ 6:31) not Chicago's.
I had a homemade bumper sticker for my '97 Suburban.
Wagon King Family Truckster.
I actually LOVE vegas vacation and its my 2nd favorite of the series! Am i right?!
Took me about 15 years to notice that kitchen plate gag. Classic. Then wondered "Is that how americans wash dishes!??!!?" LOL
RIP to the director John Hughes, Harold Ramis, and including the actors Imogene Cocoa, John Candy and recently passed star Frank McRae.
Absolute classic.
Now that I know the behind-the-scenes, the rating is 5 out of 5 for me. I had a smile on my face the whole time
Good movie
Man, I had a huge crush on Dana Barron. Sad she didn't come back for the sequel
So did I, along with Jane Krakowski AND Christie Brinkley.
Because of this movie, I carry a real gun and a tarp on all vacations.
Guns can come in handy on road trips.. some asshole pounded on my hotel door one time in the middle of the night and if he hadn't stopped I was going to fire a shot at the bottom of the door..lol

I might be in the minority, but I think European Vacation is the best of the lot. It's literally a laugh all the way through. Anyone agree?
This movie is streets ahead
I bet he wouldn't drive around St. Louis in real life either.
I’m ashamed to say Vegas Vacation is my 2nd favorite Vacation film.
It was a good movie in my opinion.

At 16:27 that's Ted Kotcheff, not Robert Klane.
Nah I'd rather drive. Sure there are perils to the classic road trip but my family road trips are some of the best memories from my childhood.
That is a picture of Ted Kotcheff @16:27. Not Robert Klain.
You didn’t mention that the family trickster shows up in the opening credits of married with children..if you didn’t know now you know..
Trickster? Who was that?
The pointer sisters song was used on the video release
A thought I had during a rewatch of this...no way would a major theme park close for 2 weeks during the summer season for maintenance.
13:42 - NOT Lyndsey Buckingham! It’s Billy Burnette.
That blonde though😚✌.
No joke; I also happen to have a few cousins like Eddie... (LOL) =)

If you need this movie explained to your from Mars!!! PS it's right up there with saying who's this Bugs Bunny????
It deserves 5 out of 5 truckstars
@@superdude4402 I agree!
the owner of Walley World is the same actor who plays the owner of the toys store in Home Alone 2.
Released almost 40 yrs ago.
S#!+ I'm old.
Some people call Peg Bundy the "original milf"....straight up insult to Beverly
The original, G R E A T. I laugh in all the scenes.
But European Vacation is funnier, hilarious. My best commercial comedy since I saw it in the 80's .
That WAS NOT Lindsay Buckingham in that photo of Fleetwood Mac!!! Jjjjjeeeeezzzz!
I miss comedy.
