I think it would be amazing if you could make a ballet terms dictionary video since you are so technically beautiful, not to mention your captivating artistry
for me watching this videos , and a lot of practice at home was very good; also look the big companies rehearsals and ballet plays was an important help. I thought it was better to remember, my class was for beginners ...Maybe you could go to another group, and learn the basics - About emotions: I was bad in Maths, even I felt I was the last student, but all the time I was repeating to myself was doing well in another things, and I had the motivation for pursuing my dreams
Your saut de chat is lovely. I'm amazed at the height and extension you reach in such a small space! As always great video with very helpful tips. Thanks so much!
I was wondering if for your quick and a you could talk about financial situation as a dancer. We obviously don't do it for the money, but I am interested in the reality of it. You always hear that it is extremely tight, and I understand that I just wanted to know your experience. Thank you!
This video was so helpful !!! I was wondering if you could do a video on stretching for beginners. I'm really not very flexible (I can't do the splits) and this makes lots of what I do in ballet a lot more difficult and I really want to improve my flexibility. Thank you :)
I'm living for technique Tuesdays!! Tried this in class last night and I felt a huge difference. I've been thinking about them all wrong. I always thought the point was to travel across the floor. Love, love, love!!
It's so good to see you back Katie! My Q&A question is: How long do you think it could take for someone not really flexible to be able to do splits, middle splits and penchés? With daily stretching routine such as yours, how long could it be? I want to set myself realistic goals and not push myself too hard to not harm myself. I want to become flexible, but i want to do it in a smart way. Thank you in advance :)
I wasn't very flexible a few years back, but when I decided to get flexible, I stretched everyday for about an hour, and I started seeing results in about 2 weeks. That's not saying you are going to have all of your splits in those two weeks, but I do believe you will see results! Good Luck. Set your goals and then demolish them! :)
+Millie Poole When I first started out I just focused on my leg flexibility, but I suggest that you stretch everything. But, for legs youtube was a huge outlet for me too get flexible so I would totally use that as a tool. but, some stretches I do is butterfly, pike stretch, and then lunges (forward to stretch out your hamstrings and sides to stretch the insides of your hips) then always practice your splits, that's probably my best suggestion to you, practice practice practice! another really great tool is pinterest!
+Millie Poole Also! if you have instagram, follow me @madi._.dancer and I will definitely follow you back, and you are more then welcome to dm me for more help with stretching. I would love to do that! ☺
Q&A question: Any tips for people going into dance 'full time?' I'm taking dance at my college for the next two years, and I am hoping to get into a dance school at University level after, any tips for not getting burnt out and not letting the competitiveness get into your head? Thanks, Katie, the videos and the Facebook page are a great help!
I'm more comfortable in my saut de chats than my grande jetes, but this is helpful!! I've plateaud in them a bit so this should help me improve. Glad you're back!!
Hi Katie, so glad you're back, we missed you! Do you think you could please do a video on achilles tendonitis and how to manage it while still dancing well? Mine flares up and causes me so much pain during rehearsal periods, and Id be very interested to hear a dancers point of view on it because Ive already heard the doctors. 😇
Dear Katie, i am very greatful for your workouts and tips, they help so much. I started ballet last year. Surprisingly, I was able to start pointe work and to go on stage with my class ! Thank you, you gave me the courage to go take class as an adult beginner, it has been such a joy. Q&A question : I struggle with musicality : counting, and being on the music. How can i work on that and hopefully improve ? Congratulations on reaching 60000 subscribers, I wish you a very beautiful wedding, best of luck for all your upcoming projects ! Clara, 22yo, France
We need to see your latest fall makeup looks! In class and for everyday. Also would love still to see your brushes that you're using as you go. Last but not least, any news on upcoming performances?
Minha humilde dança cresce em aprendizado através de você, kathryn! Obrigada por compartilhar seu conhecimento, bondade e talento! You teach me that I can improve my ballet technique... tks for sharing your knowledge, kindness and super talent for normally people who loves ballet!
Missed your videos so much! This video was so helpful, I could never get my front leg high enough, my legs were uneven. This helped me so much with getting my front leg higher! Thank you so Much!
Thank you so much for this video! I recently had a conversation with one of my classmates after ballet class, we talked about how to improve our saut de chat, this helps me a lot :)
Can you please do a video on Grande Jeté And for your Q&A please answer the question on the different dance injuries and how to treat them? Love you so much!!
Hello Kathryn! Q&A: Can you do a video tutorial on how you get your middle splits and your tilt? Also, can you give some tips on how you can stay motivated? Thank you xoxo💕💕 You are amazing btw😊

Hi Kathryn! I just want to thank you for all you do here on UA-cam and your Powhow online studio! You have really helped me improve in my dancing and I look forward to continue to learn from you! :) Q&A: Do you think doing normal and consistent dance workouts at home six days a week that you can improve at the same rate as going to a dance studio? :) Thank you so much for you help! :)
Hi!! Can you Make a video explaining the different types of Pas de valse? Specially the one that has a little hop? I'm a big fan of yours!!! I've been following you for years, since NYCB. You are such an example and inspiration!!! Love from Argentina!
Q&A: In order to catch up, I need to take multiple classes with less than 5 min breaks in b/w in a day. My hardest day would be 1 hr tech (beginner), 1 hr tech (intermediate), 1 hr pointe (beginner/intermediate) side by side. How should I pace myself to preserve energy but get the best out to improve technique? Thank you :)
Wow! I've been doing ballet for a few years now, and I didn't know there was a difference! We always do grand jeté développé, we never really do it with the leg straight except for sometimes in jazz. Thanks for enlightening me, I really had no idea! And hey, your tips helped me to get my left one better. My right one looks pretty good, and then my left one is a disaster in comparison xD
assisto todos os seus vídeos e mesmo sendo e me inglês e eu não entendo inglês muito bem mas dá de entender pelo modo que você explica amo seus vídeos um beijo aqui do Brasil 😘😘😘
I’ve only ever really done grand jetes and now a dance team is requiring Sauté de cha, transitioning between the two has been difficult as a grand jete is muscle memory for me at this point
Please do a video on grande jetes! I will be performing the peasant pas variation from giselle in the next few months and I really need some advice on how to get that split in the air.
Hello. I am a teen and I have just begun taking ballet classes. I know you have a video for adult beginners, but could you make one for teen beginners as well. Thank you so much.
Q&A: I'm trying to catch up so I'll be put in a class with students much younger than I am in addition to my age group. I am 16 and others are 11-13. How do I deal with pressure of being the oldest but with least experience? I'm a bit scared that the younger ones and my teacher will expect more out of me, but mostly I'm going to be putting pressure on myself... Thanks Katie!
I'm so glad you're back!!! I love your channel, it's super helpful. I was wondering if you could do a video going over your Powhow website. I'm confused how to sign up for a class as well as how the classes work. Are the classes like a video or is it a Skype type of thing? Thanks so much.
What type of problems? If Katie's video didn't help, you should really talk to your teacher about it, because he/she's knows you best and will know how to help you best. It's hard to help someone we can't see.
Q&A: A while back when you sold the Freed point shoes that you had in your closet you said that they were the type of shoe you use to wear, but they didn't work for you any more. I was wondering what happens if a dancer in a company finds her self in that same position. What does the dancer do until she finds her new shoes and what does the company do with all of her unworn shoes that she is no longer comfortable in? P.S. Thanks for all the great videos! ;-)
I think running is not good for dancers because you might get shin splints or something. If you like to run, make sure that you stretch enough afterwards or your muscles will become tight.
A lot of professional dancers use running for cross training. Maria Chapman Kennedy (a former principal dancer with PNB) went for a run every morning. It works for some dancers and is horrible for others. I love running for cross training. Most of the dancers I know avoid sprinting so they don't bulk up too much. I however alternate between distance and sprinting. They both have their benefits and I don't want my body to get used to one thing. As with anything, you have to pay attention to your body. Because of how unnatural ballet is, running is pretty much the opposite of what we do in ballet. It can be a good thing since you are working muscles you don't usually use but for some people it does more harm than good. Try running but listen to your body. If you find it's too hard on your joints and is wrecking your turnout either cut back or cut it out.
I can't wait to hear about what's been going on in life with you lately Katie!! I'm so excited for you about your wedding too! 😊💜 Also I was listening to your podcast and I'm excited to hear about the possibility of you returning to a company that you talked about! Anyways, thanks again for another helpful video :))
Hey kathryn, i'm not sure how to get the power to jump up quick and high enough so that i get the full split in the air. I always feel that i have no time to plie after glissade or i tend to lean forward if i think of plie. And my back leg has difficulty straightening it out :( i don't know how to get the strength for the back leg to fully extend. Since i have slight hyperextended legs they shouldn't look bend if i fully straighten them out :/
Can you give any tips on how to stay in shape when your career is on hold? I had hip surgery this spring, and also haven't been able to audition because my husband's job (military) may require us to move soon. I'd love to keep up my pointework and be ready for auditions when we have more news about where we're headed, but I'm not quite sure what to do!
I'm so glad you are back! I have a question; my dad does not support me pursuing ballet, but it is my dream, my passion. He makes me doubt myself a lot and makes me wonder, should I consider pursuing something else? Or should I follow my dream?
I agree with that since I too am struggling to find a school with opportunities like getting on Pointe and and gain performance experience. Since I'm moving in a rural area it is difficult.
could you talk about variations recommended to start practicing? Because I dance since I was 7, but I never really had "my variation", and it´s oubvious that i won´t start doing fouettes...
Q&A: Do you have any tips for remembering ballet TERMS? I can't seem to remember what any of the "steps" are called, and I feel like I need a dictionary of sorts!
what exactly is tombe pas de bourree glissade? oh also in all the grand jetes ive ever done we do developpes are you supposed to just go into them straight legged?
BoggessBroadway yes, the grand jete is when you brush your leg to the front and saut de chat is when you developpe your leg to the front. Grand Jete= BRUSH Saut de Chat= DEVELOPPE
Could you do a how to get your pump turns not on pointe (sorry I don't know the ballet term for pump turns because I'm a 12 year old jazz, hip hop, lyrical and hip hop dancer)
Great video! I'll definitely be trying some of these tips. I missed you while you were gone, so I'm really glad you're back!! I have a question for the Q&A. I've noticed that when I work out I tend to get lightheaded, especially when doing stretches like downward dog but just in general after strenuous exercise too. It always goes away pretty quickly. Is this just a minor issue, or is it something I should be worried about? What can I do to prevent it from happening? Thanks!
Q&A: Hi Katie! Thank you so much for that video, it's so helpful. I love jumping and my teacher says I have a really great grand jete with a nice height. But I have some problems. After a few jumps I get a terrible pain in my right underleg (the leg I'm landing with) in the middle between the knee and my ankle. It feels like it's right in this big pointed bone you can feel when you touch that leg. I've tried many things, especially with my feet while I'm landing and I asked my teacher but nothing helps. Do you know what that could be or do you know some dancers with similar problems? I would be so greatful if you have some tips. Thank you so much!! :)
Can you please do a video on grand jete? I can't get enough air time to get my back leg up. I can't really do a good grand jete. Btw I love your videos 😊
Hi, Katie! I have an issue with rolling through on pointe from three quarter to full pointe. do you have any tips on how i can fix this? It's really keeping me from advancing in my dancing. Thanks in advance!!
Q&A: ok so I'm constantly told to relax and to breathe. However, when I do relax and breathe I feel like I'm not working hard enough and I don't sweat or get sore. When I try to work hard I tense up again. I don't know what to do please help.
Madi Ashley Haha, I can see what you mean xD Also, have you tried imagery? Like imagining your body moving like water or something; whatever creates an image of relaxation and smoothness and makes you feel lighter and less tense. :)
Q&A: I'm having much trouble with lifting my left in delelope devant, I feel like I'm only lifting with my thighs. Any tips on improving that? And second of all do you have any tips for hops on pointe and resisting you feet on pointe? x
I think it would be amazing if you could make a ballet terms dictionary video since you are so technically beautiful, not to mention your captivating artistry
Royal ballet channel has a glossary :)
+randomstuffy123
I've watched some of them however i much prefer her way of teaching and find her videos have made me improve much faster
Q&A question: do you have any tips to feel more confident when you feel like the worst person in the class?
Also can you do a video on Pique turns?

you're the teacher I always wanted, thank you so much, I'm going to practice my saut de chat like crazy.
Your saut de chat is lovely. I'm amazed at the height and extension you reach in such a small space! As always great video with very helpful tips. Thanks so much!

This video was so helpful !!!
I was wondering if you could do a video on stretching for beginners. I'm really not very flexible (I can't do the splits) and this makes lots of what I do in ballet a lot more difficult and I really want to improve my flexibility.

GREAT idea!
Every time you say "some people" you are describing me! 😅
I'm living for technique Tuesdays!! Tried this in class last night and I felt a huge difference. I've been thinking about them all wrong. I always thought the point was to travel across the floor. Love, love, love!!
Im so happy you're back again! I have missed your videos so much
Thank you!
You rock! I froze your jete, which you did with practically no momentum, and it was spectacular!
great tips! you've got such a talent for teaching!
I'm the same as you because being not that flexible is holding me back a bit

I'm glad to see you again.and now I see the difference I usually get that mixed up. hopefully when I practice that step it will get better.

Congratulations on reaching 60000 subscribers,
I wish you a very beautiful wedding, best of luck for all your upcoming projects !
Clara, 22yo, France
I always tried my Saut de Chat by using my back leg first!! This is so helpful!
could you do a video on improving your dancing/ not falling behind while suffering from an injury? that would be so helpful
We need to see your latest fall makeup looks! In class and for everyday. Also would love still to see your brushes that you're using as you go. Last but not least, any news on upcoming performances?
It's so great to have you back! I've missed you're videos and this was extremely helpful!!
Q&A: do you have any tips on how to deal with students that get a little "too touchy and stalking" & also rude to their peers?
Minha humilde dança cresce em aprendizado através de você, kathryn! Obrigada por compartilhar seu conhecimento, bondade e talento! You teach me that I can improve my ballet technique... tks for sharing your knowledge, kindness and super talent for normally people who loves ballet!
Please make video about improving Grand battement.

THANKS!!! This was a lot of help. Looking forward to the grand jete video.
I'm so happy to see you again!
love technique tips!
Thank you!
Can you please do a video on Grande Jeté
And for your Q&A please answer the question on the different dance injuries and how to treat them? Love you so much!!
Q&A question: Which should a less advanced dancer focus on more - flexibility or strength? Thank you so much!!!
I'd say finding a good balance between the two is best. You'll need both, so you should work on both.
Correction (I realise I forgot to add in a word) : which should a less advanced dancer focus on _first_ - flexibility or strength? Thanks again!
Great question! I will definitely answer that in detail on the next Q&A. (Too much to type!)
For me I focus on both because I am neither lmaooo
Hello Kathryn! Q&A: Can you do a video tutorial on how you get your middle splits and your tilt? Also, can you give some tips on how you can stay motivated? Thank you xoxo💕💕
You are amazing btw😊
Hi Kathryn, I find all your videos very helpful.
for nutcracker, I got the part of 'plum attendant' and in my group which is four plums, two, plum attendants, and the sugar plum fairy. every girl in the group is in highschool, and in ballet 2-4 (I'm not sure what level the sugar plum fairy is, but she's en pointe for our dance). Im only in 8th grade, I started dancing in 6th grade. our dance so far is pretty simple, but as its only my 6th time having to memorize a dance (two recitals and a spring show) I feel like I'm somewhat behind. I know they would only cast someone into a role they could do, but I just feel like I stand out as the weak link of the group.
I'm going on pointe this year and I was wondering if you could do a review on different pointe shoe brands.lysm
I will work on that!
+Kathryn Morgan please thatd be so helpful ive had 2 brands now and im looking for another
Good to see you back
Yeei! You're back! I was starting to worry about you 😄
Welcome back! I missed you.
Thanks this is definitely going to be really helpful!
Thank you!

Q&A: is menstrual cups or tampons better when doing ballet?
Hello. I am a teen and I have just begun taking ballet classes. I know you have a video for adult beginners, but could you make one for teen beginners as well. Thank you so much.
Q&A question: Hi! I was wondering if you have any tips for hopping on pointe and relevés on one leg? Thank you! x
She already has a video for hopping on pointe
+Romario Flores Thank you!
+Jessica Gomez Thank you!
This Video is very helpful to me.

Q&A question: What do you recommend doing to lengthen over-developed muscles? Is this a result of poor technique? Thanks!
I'm so glad you're back!!! I love your channel, it's super helpful. I was wondering if you could do a video going over your Powhow website. I'm confused how to sign up for a class as well as how the classes work. Are the classes like a video or is it a Skype type of thing? Thanks so much.
Glad Your Back, you look beautiful
Q&A question: I have problems with my front developpè and with my tilt. Can you give me some extra tips?
And how can I improve my technique? By the way I love so much your channel and you're amazing💕
I think there is already a video on developé
+meowool I have already watched it but it didn't help me so much
What type of problems? If Katie's video didn't help, you should really talk to your teacher about it, because he/she's knows you best and will know how to help you best. It's hard to help someone we can't see.
+Kelsey Liu thank you for the advice
Q&A: A while back when you sold the Freed point shoes that you had in your closet you said that they were the type of shoe you use to wear, but they didn't work for you any more. Has dance ever helped you through things? I know when I'm dancing everything else just kinda melts away.
Q&A : Is running good for you when you dance ? Doesn't it stiffen you ?
I think running is not good for dancers because you might get shin splints or something. If you like to run, make sure that you stretch enough afterwards or your muscles will become tight.
Yes, I remember now ! In that case, how do you work on your cardio ?
Jeanne Dézard You could swim, cycle, or use the elliptical machine, among other things. :)

Katelyn Tisserand I heard that many companies don't allow any kinds of sport that are not ballet.

you should do what your heart tells you!!! he may not support you, but if it's what you love you shouldn't let anyone bring you down! good luck❤️
thank you so much for this!
Thank you!
Hello! I love your videos. Do you have a video for the approach before the jump? I'm trying to fix some trouble spots...
Hello, Kathryn. Did you have some video talking about Grand Jete? I've been having serious problems with it. Thank you.
Hi! I'm an adult beginner dancer, and I cannot go to classes for a while, would you recommend home practice?? Thank you! Xoxo
I agree with that since I too am struggling to find a school with opportunities like getting on Pointe and and gain performance experience. Since I'm moving in a rural area it is difficult.
I'm with you! I enjoy doing Katie's videos at home.
could you talk about variations recommended to start practicing? Because I dance since I was 7, but I never really had "my variation", and it´s oubvious that i won´t start doing fouettes...
Q&A: Do you have any tips for remembering ballet TERMS? I can't seem to remember what any of the "steps" are called, and I feel like I need a dictionary of sorts!
Could u do a how to break in your point shoes
Gosh Katie, you have no idea of how much I missed your videos! How is the schedule gonna be?
what exactly is tombe pas de bourree glissade? oh also in all the grand jetes ive ever done we do developpes are you supposed to just go into them straight legged?
I'm not entirely sure, but I know tombe means "to fall" and pas de bourree means "back side front" and glissade means "to slide"
BoggessBroadway
yes, the grand jete is when you brush your leg to the front and saut de chat is when you developpe your leg to the front.
Grand Jete= BRUSH
Saut de Chat= DEVELOPPE
Jennifer Doubrava
glissade means to glide
Glissade actually means to slide and pas de bourre really doesn’t mean anything it’s a specific dance move
I love your videos they help me so much since I'm new on pointe! When do you think you will come out with a grand jete video? :)
Thank you for this video, you look wonderful btw!
you should show us how to do a Tombé Pas de Bourrée Glissade Pas de Chat combination *properly,* because that's what my class have to do every day.
Could you do a how to get your pump turns not on pointe (sorry I don't know the ballet term for pump turns because I'm a 12 year old jazz, hip hop, lyrical and hip hop dancer)
Plzzz do a improve ur jumps vid cus i need that sooooooo baaadddd😭🙏🙏
Great video! I'll definitely be trying some of these tips. I missed you while you were gone, so I'm really glad you're back!!
I have a question for the Q&A. I've noticed that when I work out I tend to get lightheaded, especially when doing stretches like downward dog but just in general after strenuous exercise too. It always goes away pretty quickly. Is this just a minor issue, or is it something I should be worried about? What can I do to prevent it from happening? Thanks!
you are amazing!!!😍💖
Btw could you give some advice about spot when making pirouettes? I would really appreciate it😊
Q&A: Hi Katie!
Thanks in advance!!
can you give some on how to have better back flexibility?
Q&A: ok so I'm constantly told to relax and to breathe. However, when I do relax and breathe I feel like I'm not working hard enough and I don't sweat or get sore. When I try to work hard I tense up again. I don't know what to do please help.
Have you tried yoga?
Jessica Gomez Yes I have. I believe it is improving the relaxation just not as fast and efficient as I would like it but it definitely helps!
Madi Ashley Haha, I can see what you mean xD
Also, have you tried imagery? Like imagining your body moving like water or something; whatever creates an image of relaxation and smoothness and makes you feel lighter and less tense. :)
Q&A: I'm having much trouble with lifting my left in delelope devant, I feel like I'm only lifting with my thighs. Any tips on improving that? And second of all do you have any tips for hops on pointe and resisting you feet on pointe? x
