    I'm surprised that the second truck, even though it was destroyed by the fire, was still capable of moving under its own power.

    The first truck was an American LaFrance Patriot which is extremely rare, only a few were built before ALF was bought by Freightliner and the Patriot was replaced by the Eagle

    This isn't the first fire station to burn and it won't be the last, it's sad but it happens. Kind of hard to fight a fire without your gear and equipment because that's wants burning. If your house was on fire, a garden hose isn't going to help. You need the pumpers and all the other equipment that it takes to fight a fire. Fire fighters don't show up at a multistory building in shorts and t-shirts. They bring what they need with them. Can't do that if that's what burning.
    Best of luck you guys.

      Jeff Leonard actually if I recall from a police report and footage, a fatal MVA occurred at the station, involving a truck. the truck crashed off the road into one of the rigs, when a fuel tank exploded starting a fire. that is of course if I remember it correctly.

    Just because the second one fired up doesn't mean its repairable. The heat damage to the frame would be enough to write it off, not to mention potential heat damage to the engine and transmission. Not really worth risking salvaging it as you'll be dealing with reliability issues afterwards. However you'd be surprised what can survive a fire so long as its in the right place. As long as its basic functions are intact (fuel pump and shutoff, starting circuit) it'll fire. I've seen a dirty old LN108 Hilux absolutely gutted by fire, but they threw a battery in it, jumped the starter solenoid and it fired up first pop

      Max Reiter You must really care about what I say....But I dont care about what you think. Now we know how you "real American heros are". You only save the lives of the people who you either dont know or people you like. The ones you dont like you are willing to "black list" and let die. I could just say "hope a fireball runs you over in a chemical spill you turd" but I wouldnt really mean that one and two I would never black list anyone and risk their lives. Cause I'm not like you, you hero you.....

    • @mattheinrich3960
      @mattheinrich3960 10 років тому +2

      Response times are dependent on where the vols are at the time of the call. I know with out station in Aus we heavily rely on members from neighbouring stations to help us with day time response as we're a rural community and most members work outside of our town. For me I work 20 mins drive from my station and often it depends on what mood my boss is in as to whether or not I can leave work and turn out as there's no requirement for them to let me go. Could be the same there but then again I dunno how the US works.

      Leroy Hogwash Do you not understand what V-O-L-U-N-T-E-E-R means? It means UNMANNED FIREHOUSE! I'm a volunteer firefighter and I will fucking race to the firehouse at 2 am just to go save some sorry ass like you who doesn't appreciate what we do. Since you do not appreciate what us volunteer firefighters do, let me put it into perspective for you. We run into burning houses of people that we don't even know and if need be, find and carry them out. YES we would even do it for some low life piece of shit trailer park bum like you. So if you think for one minute that we are selective about the people we save. Your sadly mistaken. I hope one day your house burns down, because you fucking deserve it. Don't fucking disrespect our brotherhood. So go play with ur CB radio and pretend that you're mr. big shot because u drive a big rig. I look forward to the day that you burn in hell.

      +kd5you1 I live in the area and from what I remember from the local news reports one of the engines caught fire after returning from an earlier call. Its an all-volunteer department so yes the station was empty at the time. The engine went up and took the rest of the station with it.

      According to a 2007 story in The Republican-Herald, it took 30 minutes for the fire to gut the engine room and cause more than $1 million in damage. It was later determined that a malfunction in a 1994 American LeFrance engine started the blaze.

      +Dennis Throckmorton was it set or accidental? Ahh, further comments show it was accidental, equipment malfunction.

    It's sad to see a fire department all burned up. Who comes when the fire trucks are on fire?

    A lesson learned from the 9/11 cleanup, don't do a cleanup like this without protective gear like masks for breathing, preferably something covering the eyes, long sleeves and long pants, etc.

      Didn't say they weren't going to be totaled by the insurance company. Just that they could be repaired and put back into service for a lot less money than buying new.

      +JeepCollector91 Those trucks are dead ! The metal will rust with the speed of light.. All chemicals released in the fire gets in to the metal and you can clean it..
