When I heard the R.I.P. LP for the first time, I was totally surprised and after a short time I was hooked. It was different, but just awesome. - The first LP titled "Say Siegel-Schwall", by the Siegel-Schwall band fell into my hands in 1969 as a young man of 19. I was already before an absolute blues fan, which was actually rare in my generation - at least in Germanyf. I came over the series of American-Fok-Blues-Festival-LPs on the blues and could of modern bands actually only like those who were quite close to the blues (some pieces of the Rolling Stones and of course the CREAM. But my heart and soul belonged to the blues. When I heard the 1st piece "Slow Blues in A" on the first LP I bought from Siegel-Schwall, I was hooked in one fell swoop! The absolute hammer for me was then on the B-side the "NewYork Psychatric Institution Blues". That blew me away and to this day, for me, the Siegel-Schwall band is one of the 3 best blues groups to ever walk this earth. I can listen to them again and again and never get bored. I have all of their LPs and have all of the recordings of live performances. Also jams with other performers. At my funeral the piece "Hush Hush" is to be played.....
In the early 70s, I had no idea what "blues" was... but I was crazy for the Siegel-Schwall Band and went to see them every time they were within driving distance.
I don't know if it's me or what but does anyone else wonder why a group of Jewish guys are singing about a ham dinner. Pork chops maybe but a ham, Never !
