In this video, we're discussing how to get clients on instagram as a photographer - without a large following. You may already know that social media marketing is a great tool for growth and getting clients, but if you're a beginner photographer or are just starting a photography business, it can feel like you're late to the game and at the mercy of "the algorithm." The truth is: follower counts and vanity metrics, while great, don't necessarily = dollars in your pockets. In fact, you don't actually need a big following to make money through Instagram... you simply need the right strategy! Found some pretty cool Facegroup groups for finding local/state photographers and local wedding vendors. Google has been best, but it all helps. In one Facebook photo group, we’ve got an IG engagement group of about 20 people that like and leave real comments on each others posts in order to stay in the group. Cool to see others work, and see different levels/stages talent in various parts of my state chase similar goals in variety of niches/markets

Hey! It really depends on your goals, stage of business and amount you have to invest. 50mm 1.4 is a fantastic all-around portrait lens! When it comes to gear, my advice is always to save up and simply invest back into the business as you grow. 🙂 The camera you use wont make or break your business in the beginning- and as the business grows and makes more money, you can level-up your arsenal.

Hey Asia, I'd love to hear more details to see if I can help. Would you mind dropping your handle, and also sharing what specifically you tried and for how long?
While the advice shared here will definitely make a difference in your visibility, there's of course a lot more to running a successful business than what I can cover in a 13min video. A couple other things to consider are:
👉 How consistent you were with this strategy? (ie: # of times per week + over what length of time) - In a growth phase, we should ideally be getting ourselves out there more to have more hooks in the water so to speak.
👉How well you understand your Ideal Client (their dreams, values, worries, etc.) so that you can create content that's custom tailored to them?
👉How effective is your Branding at building connection and trust?
It's really important to keep in mind that marketing is just *ONE* piece of the puzzle. Another key element is your branding (including visual elements such as design and how you curate your portfolio... but also the less tangible aspects such as the voice, vibe and values of your brand and how they relate to and builds trust with your dream clients.)
Because the thing is, it's very possible to increase traffic and views - but still not increase bookings. Your marketing + branding + sales systems need to all be operating in sync to see the best results. The flaw many photographers make is not thinking through the full customer journey. While it's important to get in front of them. We want to 1) make sure it's the right people we're getting in front of, 2) meet them where they're at with our content + branded experience so that we're building trust and connection, and 3) guide them along in our journey with us to book with our sales process.
I have other videos that share tips on some of these other topics. But I hope this offers some additional insights & areas to focus ♥ Keep going! You got this!
