I met Supreme Court Justice O’Connor when she visited my university in the late 1980’s. She was a huge inspiration to many women forging the way for all. God speed to her now as she forges her way to the only court that matters.
My condolences. Her statement that the pressure of being the first female meant that if she didn't do good work it would mean she would be the last rings so true.
@@dennisreinke5278 No one is perfect. I was referring to the fact that women, in some cases, have to meet higher standards because they are breaking ground in some positions. I do remember the hanging chad episode.
between Rosalynn, Kissinger, and O'Connor passing, i feel like a singular point in time is coming to an end and i am feeling very old for the first time in my life. this is becoming hard with which to deal.
God Bless our first woman justice, Sandra Day O'Conner, may she rest in peace. She said from the bench: "Some of us as individuals find abortion offensive to our most basic principles of morality, but that can't control our decision. Our obligation is to define the liberty of all, not to mandate our own moral code."
Strange. I just finished watching her amazing speech on Oliver Wendell Holmes, and then this news comes into my feed. Truly, a tragic loss for a nation before a bleak winter!
Thank you , Sandra Day O'CONNOR for the Service to our Country! For being a leader to open the door to women to participate in our Justice System! You will continue to be an example of being a lady who was respectful and respected! I will remember you as a Supreme Court Justice ,and never as a Republican or a Democrat because you served and Represented all Americans! A lady that represented women in the highest court of our country!
Remember what she said," she didn't approve of abortion as a means of contraception,! At that time she recognized that abortion should be used in a medical situation! Which right now a woman must carry a dead baby for nine months according to the men in Congress!
Kissinger was before my time but I had heard of the name. I recall back in July 2003 at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, Sandra Day O'Connor was awarded the Liberty Medal. We were watching the ceremony on TV and the camera shot panned a guy fast asleep in the middle of the ceremony. I said check out that sleeping guy! My father-in-law informed me that it was Henry Kissinger. R.I.P. to both!
My condolences! She’s an inspiration to all women as well as the integrity she had that current justices should and must aspire to have which unfortunately they recently lack!
And that's the reason we have a problem in this country because she went against separation of church and state which was unconstitutional and still is unconditional.
How many in elected positions right now will think about their position in office and think twice about so many beautiful testimonials of love and respect for them, will think twice of what kind of testimony they will leave behind when they die, will their survining children, great grand children stand at their grave and feel proud of who their loved one was! This is the same way i feel of the Carter Family! The era and legacy of those leaders is almost gone by what i see with the majority of the younger people in leadership!
Bring back Mehdi Hasan! MSNBC is on it's way to becoming disreputable. Hasan was leading the way in critical journalism - which is harder to find than Sasquatch. This is yet one more reason to TURN THE CHANNEL!
Andrea Mitchell should really take early voluntary retirement before they have to put her on the shelf, since she woefully stammers and titters her way through interviews. Really long past time for Mitchell to go off into the sunset!
Not every justice has been on the bench when they die. There are three LIVING former justices. If you did some research, you wouldn’t look kinda stupid.
She said she was alright with being the 1st woman on The Supreme Court so long as she wasn't the last, & she lived to see 5 more women join The Court.

GRATIAS TIBI Sandra Day O'Connor. 🎉
O’Connor was an outspoken advocate for feminism and abortion! She will be sorely missed.

What a trailblazer.
Could be 5-4 if Ruth Buzzi Ginsburg had retired like Sandra Day O Connor did.
Except for the whole "not being able to get a [pick past McConnell.
I was happy when that leftist commie Ginsburg passed.

She started out as a staunch conservative and ended up a liberal. She didn't change her positions, the court changed.
🙏 condolences to the family
At least she didn’t pull a RBG and selfishly stayed in the seat until her passing
Both were women of great empathy, professionalism, and integrity.
@@joycewills895 no Sandra wasn’t an egotistical 🤡 like RBG

Rest in dharma. At least she had the foresight and dignity to retire at an earlier age instead of hogging the seat ‘til death.
She got her law degree from Stanford in 1952. She went into government work when she found out that no private law firm in Arizona would hire her.
Crazy! Sandra Day O'Connor died. I was just listening to her 1990 song, "Nothing Compares 2 U" the other day.
And that's the reason we have a problem in this country because she went against separation of church and state which was unconstitutional and still is unconditional.
Why'd you fire Mehdi Hasan? Did it have anything to do with his views on Israel or Gaza?
Why are you asking in the UA-cam comments section bonehead? Write to MSNBC directly if you really have questions or suggestions.
Of course it did.

An outstanding Supreme Court jurist, she was appointed to this position by former President Ronald Reagan.
That's very important. To keep our beliefs and Government separate. My opinion.

Oh wow. rip
RBG failed to do what Sandra Day O’Oconnor did. She failed tostepped down from the Supreme Court.
With respect to retirement, she made the right bet on the 2004 election unlike RBG and 2016.

A good news day indeed!
Rest in Peace dear leader.

Yep, she was complicit in forcing 2 terms of Geo.W. Bush and all the disasters that followed on the USA.
Finally, someone In this comment thread who actually remembers what she did.

I'll take her staying alive over Kissinger.
My condolences. RIP. I will always remember Reagan for nominating the first lady Supreme Court judge.
