gachagirl Yang, Nothing wrong with visiting him as her children’s father. They have kids together and will always have that bond. She didn’t go back to remarry or continue a lover like relationship with him. He insisted on doing the Hmong remarry ritual but she wasn’t having any of it. It sounds to me like she made the trips for her children’s sake so they can see their dad again. As a child, it doesn’t matter whether our parents loved each other, we still want the best for them both.

i'll put this in this prospective, if their father never disowned or abandon his children from the start like most husband that tells his 1st wife's children that he doesn't cared if these children turn out to be king/queen, general, scholars he wouldn't even regret he wouldn't acknowledge them as his children anymore without regret... if the father did this to his 1st wife's children then yes, i wouldn't even acknowledge him as a father, but if he was caring and loving father then these children has every right to go back a see their dad.
although, he did married another woman, but he did love her too, but it's animosity and anger that drove her away from her ex-husband... what she did at the end, to take his children to see him and prepared a spiritual calling of their souls to combined to his clan once again, so that they can honored his name and his first wife will have a place in this realm and a surname to die on...
this father wasn't abusive or would disowned his children, but it the wife whom chose to leave due to animosity, and anger.

He may not abuse her physically but marrying another is painful enough for her to leave. Hurting my mom and breaking her heart is the same as hurting me in my opinion.

it's quite sad, but this is the reality of our hmong women that's still old tradition... our younger generations don;t care so much about surnames and clan's name.so these younger generation women faces less abuses from man.
