Louis Vuitton is gearing up for a drop of monumental proportions. Next month, the French maison will launch its collaborative Nike Air Force 1, designed by Virgil Abloh.
One of Nike's most recognizable models, the AF1 has become an enduring cultural touchstone. Its continued relevance in fashion, music, and art lends itself perfectly to an Abloh-engineered remix, set to release in several stages.
First, all 47 editions of Abloh's AF1 will star in an exhibition - open from May 20 through 31 - at New York City's Greenpoint Terminal Warehouse. Featuring a recreation of the designer's studio and atelier, the show pays homage to the late Abloh's legacy while educating viewers on the savoir-faire behind each handcrafted AF1.
Expanding the impact of the exhibition, Louis Vuitton will also erect pop-up installations throughout the city, specifically at Domino Park, Grand Central, South Street Seaport, Astor Place, Columbus Circle, Flatiron Plaza, and Gansevoort Plaza.
Beginning in June, pre-orders for the AF1 will open select for Louis Vuitton clients. Later, nine editions of the shoe will release in-store to the public.
First revealed at Louis Vuitton's Spring/Summer 2022 menswear show, the sneakers are emblematic of Abloh's merging of "high" and "low." Embossed with Louis Vuitton's monogram, outfitted in Damier-checked leather, and emblazoned with "AIR" across the midsole, the revamped shoes reference the cover of It Takes Two by DJ E-Z Rock. Immortalized in the album art is a pair of Dapper Dan-designed Air Force 1s, customized with LV-monogrammed Swooshes.
If you're hoping to collect a piece of fashion history, the LV x Nike AF1s will retail between €2,000 and €2,500 in sizes 3.5 to 18. Even if you're not in the market, the drop is sure to echo throughout the industry as well as New York City, arguably the birthplace of streetwear.
Whether you visit Louis Vuitton's exhibition, pass by one of its pop-ups, or inevitably break out a pair of your own Air Force 1s, remember: "VIRGIL WAS HERE."

Nice sneaker but not worth nowhere near the retail price. Maybe 900 to 1100 tops. Even then the UA mark is so strong with high quality pairs I would have to be an idiot to send that kind of money on something that’s going to get walked in. In fact, every pair you see walking on the street will be a UA pair. I also have to laugh uncontrollably as the reseller price. They better hope they can stay alive over the next few years. Most people are broke. PPP and stimi money is dried up. Even the wealthy are tightening their belts as we head into a major downturn in the economy.
