- Are chest rigs for men or girly men? You decide while checking out Full Tang Tactical's modular chest rig.

In response to my initial review, Full Tang has already implemented a design change to the harness. And that’s another reason why you know this is a great company run by a solid guy - he actively listens to feedback.

BTW - you're awesome, especially if you've read this much. There's not many like you - Thanks for hanging out with me here for a few minutes.
When we did search and rescue, we wore chest rigs for 2 way radios, GPS, maps and compass, cell phones, note pad and pens along with anything else we needed in a hurry without removing our backpack every time. A chest rig is for smart people.
You’d like these then, I’ve tried one.
There are other ways besides backpacks and chest rigs. A belt/harness system allows for a lot of access to pouches that doesn't sit on your chest like a 'girlie man'!
@@SharkWhisperer1988 The one I got is just a Conterra double radio rig with a cell phone pouch but if you carry the cell on your belt then a GPS would fit right in there.
@@paul7754 Yes, and no. What if you are wearing a large backpack with a hip belt for example? Will it be that comfy to have your stuff on the belt underneath? For me, the chest rig makes perfect sense - all hiking equipment I had to carry in my cargo pockets, shirt pockets, in belt pouches, rucksack slings or hung over the neck, now I have packed in one chest rig. I can cross a stream or shallow river with it, without worrying about my camera, or lighter. I tried it first time a few weeks ago, and I'm totally sold on it.
@@ifyoudontfailyouarenoteven6210 Who said anything about 'comfort'? Just sounds like a 'heat trap' for those who move aggressively in humid and/or hot conditions. Ask the grunts in jungle warfare training. I get the 'above waterline' advantage but again there are other ways. I really like to see what's in front of my feet when I need to move fast.
I have a cheap one from Wynex, and it's really useful for hiking - a lot of space for a map, compass, headlamp, inreach mini, and other goodies.
Damn i wish i could grow a sick urban Camo beard.
I've been running with a HPG SAR chest kit for years. Use it for morning PT and kayak camping. Never had a complaint...
HPG IS NICER
For those getting in and out of vehicles often I see the benefit. I do not use one though. I prefer a belt kit or the old LBE.
Love the Brawny paper towels look. Thanks for the video, great as always.
The only complaint I have about a chest rig is regulating body temperature.
Can't open a shirt or jacket when you overheat.
I have used a HPG recon and SAR chest rig for years. I use them for everything! Hunting, fishing, ATV’s, you name it. Definitely recommended piece of gear! I also added a Blue Force Gear triple mag pouch to my HPG Recon rig. It allows to carry mags and also my cell phone to hands free record when I’m hunting 😉
Chest Rigs and LBE's are still the way for sure!!! Beard is looking great brother, love it!! 😁🍻
Hill People heavy recon to carry on trails.
Wow, y'all have spilled your beans everywhere.
whishin you a Merry Christmas from the High Desert of Western Colorado!
Great Video ! The 5.11 is on the small side with a couple of pockets (! ! !) to keep from carrying to much weight ! More than one pocket is best... The two big pockets are divided between the Nav Kit and a First Aid Kit ! On the outside is a retractable ID tethered to the Fox 40 whistle. One great item to carry is a Faraday Bag for the cellphone and two-way radios ! Some Russians where targeted because they used their cellphones too much in a war zone ! tjl
I'd probably sew paracord to the inside to keep the front flap from going all the way down. Bungee cord over the long term wears out faster. Love the rig. Didn't know you were in Georgia. Hello from South Carolina.
Being American made and made in my home state of Tennessee.. I'm definitely interested in this product. Not much of a better thing than a great chest rig bag.
You can also use it as a placard on your plate carrier
As a Snowmaker in the Northeast, been wearing chest packs for years. Mostly for radio, phone and essential items. Has to fit under a shell tho for me.
Eberlestock recon is a great chest rig for a hunting setup. Its designed to be a modular binocular carrier, but you can set it up however you want. I absolutely love it
I have the 5.11 since it was available. It works for what I need
the beard is lookin majestic! lol good stuff top
Nice to know about Full Tang. Paul the Apostle also made outdoor gear, as he was a tent maker by trade.
I'm digging the barn doors and plaid
For non tactical activities I’m a belt kit and or day pack guy. That said I am going to try a FLIC with some pounces. Which has good ventilation and distributes the contents and weight evenly. I don’t like a rack like Dolly Parton right out in front. Nor my handgun carried concealed on my chest either. And I don’t double stack on my plate carrier. I carry extra mags on my belt. Slim and trim profile works for me.
I use the Hill People Gear heavy recon chest rig to carry everything i need to get at when wearing a ruck. No need to take my ruck off to access things.
I have two Hill people gear. Solid color for everyday and camo one for wood work.
I still run my HSGI warlord. Rig isn't even made anymore , it is from my contracting days. Probably gonna out live my grandkids lol because it is built like a tank.
Good stuff! Got one coming my way and will be testing it this winter. Cool kit and cooler company
I've got a ChiCom chest rig for when I need one. I know there are better more modern versions out there, but I'm an old nastalgic surplus kinda guy.
Easy fix. Add /sew one piece of Parra cord to each side
I have a Hill People Gear SAR for work. And the smaller Runners Bag for my 10mm with a bino case molle’d on for hunting or anytime I’m out with a big pack. They keep stuff concealed and protected. However, a draw is awkward and can flag anybody to my left.
I use a carrier exclusively with and without plates. They just fit me better and don't beat me up on horseback. I embrace the suck of SETX heat. Lol
Stoke, I use the old-fashioned FLC rig because it’s cheap and it’s flexible
As per the standard for Stokermatic's content. This is another great gear review! I've been eyeing the Full Tag Tactical chest rig for many months. I like it, I like that it is American Made! I currently have the Condor Chest Rig. It's durable but I wish it was made in the USA. I beat the daylights out of it and modified it to carry admin stuff. For my next Chest Rig, I will very seriously consider the Full Tang Tactical. It's featured packed!
I'm intrigued. I've been running a HPG Runners Kit Bag and SAR Kit Bag for years. They are great, but I always wanted to have the ability to carry mags as well. This solves that problem!! Thanks for the heads up.
I added a Blue Force gear triple mag pouch to my HPG recon rig. It also allows me to put my phone in it and record hands free when Hunting and other activities
I have been with JT preaching in the streets and he is every bit as genuine as you describe.
Full Tang Tactical 💯
Just to let you know, that mag pouch is supposed to go in between the main pouch and the back cover. If that makes sense. Also, I have a gen1, and it came with an adjustable cord for the main pouch.
I use a hill people chest pack.
I have a recon bag. I carry my pistol, ammo, a knife and survival gear in it. It’s for a quick hike. Or traveling light. Obviously your not going to haul a lot of gear with it. But to throw it on from the pick up and go it’s great!
The chest rig is great, but I personally don't carry a radio anywhere the antenna could possibly be shoved into my eye socket if I were to trip or stumble.
I don't want nine magazines on my person. I want 11.
I saw that beard and flannel and I thought Stoker's dad was making a guest appearance on the channel. I'm just joshing you brother - I appreciate the content. The misses bought me a chest rig for Father's Day, so I'm not in any position to knock the dad vibes.
Love the modularity of it, unfortunately he doesn't offer shipping to Canada 😢
Utility over fashion is what's manly
Anyone who doesn't like chest rigs should have a talk with Travis Haley
I like it. What really gets my attention is the mag pouches. If I wasn't already wearing a different kind of chest rig by necessity, i'd buy one. As it is, i'd probably never wear the full tang rig, even though i'd want to. That and my entire rig has become based on certain items being in certain locations. I think chest rigs in general are great because it allows you to drop your pack but keep the necessities on you at all times. Only problem with them is if it's hot, as your basically clam shelled between your chest rig and your pack. If it's colder, it works to your advantage.
When I'm hunting I might have a backpack, Fannie pack, and bino harness on my chest. All parts of your body are valuable real estate.
So after watching this video and do some reflection, I have several thoughts. While I was in and deployed, I saw several people with chest rigs and IOTV's. Mostly it was ODA and SFAB. I never wore much on the front other than ammo pouches. Reasons where several. If in a vehicle, slim and compact needed in case of emergency. On dismount, slim in case of having to take cover in prone and getting close to ground as possible. Also the less stuff everyone had and all looked fairly similar, often times that could mean less of a bullet magnet. Thinking from an enemy perspective, he looks important because of that "big square pouch" and the others don't have. So a uniformity thing. Now that I'm out like you, I can see it being an option for immediate needed items like compass, pen paper, map spare batteries etc. However, while I'm not opposed to trying one out, it's not in the cards currently. I do have small pouches I can attach to my carrier for small items and still be able to get to the main needed accessories on the bottom portion.
All i need is a tarp and a knife just like Rambo 😂
Advantages: 1) Handiness of access to frequently needed items; 2) Helps to balance weight of your rucksack - when you need to carry a teammate’s ruck, as well as your own, carry his on your front.
Disadvantage: When you have to hit the dirt immediately (as in immediate action) anything you wear on your front will make you, from head to butt, stick up just high enough to maybe get you killed by low grazing fire.
SOE is the chest harness that I have and trying to get reps with.
Great in and for Alaska! I like and love it. Using Hill People, and works for me.
I run a tack-vest for my 12 gauge
FHF rig, radio and bear spray pouches. Also like the Hill People Rig. Especially thier harness.
I use the hpg chest rig when hiking and hunting. No better way to keep nav equipment and processing tools at the ready
thanks
I use a HPG SARv2 for search and rescue and a Haley D3CRX for a fighting load carrier. I can run that by itself or attach it to a carrier.
When it's 115F out during the summer in Texas, I'm not "LARPing" in plates. Sorry.
I like this chest rig. I have a Hill People's Gear and love it, but this evolution is nice. I like the mag pouch to the rear with the cover over it. Will check them out.
I've always prefered my old British infantry PLCE webbing/belt kit which I've still got packed and ready for when it all goes tits up here in England.
I've always considered getting a chest rig but I run my tac vest from my days long ago in law enforcement that's not a plate carrier
I’ve got a Hill People Gear it’s been good so far I’ve used it for a couple years now
There is a fine line between chest rigs and chest snares.
I run a taps rig, because I know it and am comfortable with it. I can load it up or down, and while it ain't the most fancy, nor newest and greatest, it does whatever I need it to do. I upgraded a few things on it to make it a bit more comfortable, but as I said it does the job, I know the platform well from going to war with it, and hopefully I never need it, but if I do it is tried and tested.
I use a TAPS panel with the upgrade kit. VERY modular.
I use it for backpacking because a bellybag/ hipbag (i dont know the correct English word; dad called it his belly bra!)
Because the hipbelt ,+ belt + hip bag are on the same place!
As 50+ dude i have to go more often behind a bush or tree!
the beard is getting impressive
I personally like chest rigs, I have the Helikon Tex and the Viktos, and then I have Haley Strategic and a couple of other tactical ones.
I have a Hill People chest rig. I don't remember which model it is. I really like it. However, I do not like that there is only one way to put on and take off. The first time I put it on I was looking for the other buckles that don't exist.
The only time I'd wear a chest rig, it would include a claymore pouch.
I'm not saying it's never, but it's an exceedingly small set of circumstances.
Looks cool.
Let's see how it works in the challenge!
Speaking of hard earned money... Fighting Load Carriers are a pretty functional piece of gear that's cheap enough, even when you add (buy) the pouches of your choice.
Awesome
Whoever thinks chest rigs are "gay" or useless how bout ya say it to a force recon marine out in the jungle... I have a plate carrier with a detachable bag on the back and I keep my chest rig straps in it and my front placard can be taken off my carrier and used as a micro chest rig for thick wooded areas where plate carriers are basically useless due to weight and movement... I always make sure every piece of gear I have is able to be used with every other piece of gear.
In finnish language, sissi means ranger, guerilla, partisan or commando. Like me, i was a sissi (ranger) in mechanised recon unit.😂
Nice Rig, but I think that I’ll stick with my HPG SAR. Thanks Bill!
I run a condor chest rig
I agree on the faith thing.
If you've not got it right then your starting off wrong..
Glad your on the same page with that
Indeed!
Velocity systems/ mayflower rig is pretty good. And the new trex arms rig looks promising
Navy didn't use chest rigs except for some of the guys that wore bras, I kept my soap on a rope. I've tried carrying a camera and some gear (10 lbs) with basically a cheap backpack reversed. It seemed to restrict breathing. That could be because of the cobbled together rig. This, that you have, is fascinating! I think my only question is, do you want a harness that isn't secured to you when you take the pack off? If it falls off, for instance, on the tip of Half Dome, it could be a long walk to retrieve it.
😂🤣
I like my g-code 3 rifle mag with a drop pouch that is my admin/first aid.
I have 24 miles between work and home and i live in cascadia zone. I have a 30 pound pack of three days of food. I am not looking for a fight and there are a lot of long range 300 win mag or similiar guns around which makes body armor a joke.
Maybe I'm stuck in the 90's but....Lbv88 is cheap, Woodland and a quick release and you're in the prone, just you and the earth.
I like my chest rig it makes for a great place to have your nav equipment. But 160 bux for a chest rig is way way to muchin my opinion. Yes I edited this post I hit enter to quickly 😂. Keep the great content coming.
I wear a chest rig for camping or hiking and certain training days, but that price seems a bit high but everything is these days.
I don't always wear a chest rig but when I do - it's not a chest rig.
I’ve never had a chest rig. Would it impact a low crawl? Or is that really a non-issue?
They do affect prone shots, they make u kinda webble wobble on it so u can't lay flat and get a good rest to shoot. Thin ones might not but this one prob will if u stuff it with thick junk. N we all know we gonna stuff junk lol
I believe that for the situations a citizen may find him self in, ALICE, PLCE, and other harness systems are a better choice. I don't think there is anything effeminates or masculine about either choice, just that a harness is more ideal for a broader range of jobs, like fieldcraft/bushcraft, hiking or even crawling. More breathable, better placement on your body for a wider range of motion and can carry a larger load.
A chestrig would only be considered if combat was a high possibility and I needed to run plates or additional combat gear ontop of what I already had - which is unlikely. As a Citizen I'm not looking to take on Fallujah.
I swear this man's beard grows 2 inches per day.
🤣😂
There's a difference between a chest _rig_ and a chest _pack_ (like a baby sling). Besides, women are strong evidence of the chest's practicality.
Now that my friend is a MAN purse!!
It’s a fly fishing chest rig
HILL PEOPLE GEAR IS NICER AND EVEN THOUGH WAY OVER PRICED...SOMEHOW IS LESS THAN THIS ONE Oo ADD IN THE SIDE POUCHES AND THIS PRICE IS INSANE
Chest feeder rig😂. Just playing,i use a Russian one or use my lbe for the long haul
It is a cool chest rig but I don’t like it were it opens up to were everything fowls out
That's actually been fixed since the release of this video.
Looks well made but not my cup of tea. I can see the advantages for mechanized troops and especially police who sit in vehicles hours on end. I hear fly fishermen like them too - keeps their gear above their waders. I have not personally ever worn a 'chest rig' for an extended length of time or during infantry maneuvers. Still the 'heat retention' thing always comes up in discussions. Hey - if you want to walk around in the trees with a 3 inch thick 'bib' on your chest - go right ahead! It's a FREE country ....for now. You might as well sport a 'fanny pack' while you're at it. Makes a nice accessory! I'll stick with my belt/harness rig with enough pouches for my 'get to' gear.
Sissy? Either way, that's where I keep my Glock 40 in bear country. It keeps people from getting scared and is easily accessible. $160? No way. Not for that many cubic inches. That's high rent real estate.
That beards getting scary! Lol

Ok. I gotta ask. Were you chewing tobacco before this vid?
Don’t chew.
I have a set of binoculars with a chest rig, I hate it. After a week of hunting mule deer in the high country, I said fuck the chest rig. I left the chest rig and larger binoculars back in camp and used my smaller binoculars. I keep my maps and GPS in the thigh pockets of my pants. My compass is on the shoulder strap of my pack. A chest rig is not for hunters.
What part of California are you gonna be in?
Sierra Nevadas
@STOKERMATIC That's a nice area. You will like it. It is a great location to do some training in or just camping in general.
