I purchased this for my game room racing simulator and I have to say I am VERY happy with this sound bar. I first purchased the Polk audio sound bar and was not happy with it. This Visio v5.1 with the external speakers is a great improvement and I have mounted the rear speakers to the back of the seat that sits on my motion simulator. Incredible immersion with surround sound or the dual mode. I love that it has so many inputs and adjustability of sound for any scenario you might have. Thank you for your excellent video sir.
For the price of this soundbar, for all the options it offers, the sound quality, and it's also a 5.1 system, it is very hard to find another soundbar that will compete with it at the same price. You made a great purchase choice! Appreciate the feedback. It will be helpful for other viewers that are considering buying it.
About the right and left speakers being connected to the subwoofer..I actually liked that because I planned on having my speakers at the back with the subwoofer. Otherwise I would have needed to run the wires around the outside edges of the room.
For most people the surround speakers being wired to the subwoofer will work like it did for you. For some other people though depending on the room they have, it may not work out the same if they want the subwoofer next to the soundbar. All comes out to the size and layout of the room and personal preference of where you want the subwoofer to be placed. Thank you for sharing. I appreciate your input.
That's actually how it says to do it in the book I'm sure you already know cuz this videos old but here's my complaint the left and right surround speakers are just not loud enough I have an ONN soundbar a 5.1 I decided to take them back speakers and hook it up to this v series and OMG you can actually hear what's going on behind you I have cranked up the v-series surround speakers all the way and still and just not hearing what I should be hearing coming out of them but since I put the ONN surround speakers connected them to the v series subwoofer and soundbar I'm getting the sounds from them speakers that I should be I just don't understand why Vizio is doing this and when you tell them they'll just say their systems are designed to feel your room or premium sound I'm in a small bedroom I've done everything the way the book says none of it work my subwoofers at the front left of my TV and the surround speakers are behind me but putting the sub in the speaker's back behind me and all that just I had no base at all
I'm blown away by the quality of the sound. It's 5x better than I expected for $200. I was considering getting the Sonos Arc but without the extra $1500 for a subwoofer and surround speakers I don't think I would like the Arc (by itself) as much even if the bar itself has better sound quality. This system blew my expectations away, especially after I adjusted all the settings to my preferences. My guess is this sound quality would totally impress most people. Audiophiles may notice the difference between this and a high end system but I feel like I'm in a movie theater now. 100% impressed.
Vizio sound bars are one of the top rated sound bars out there for their sound quality and definitely for their price. You get more than what you paid for. Yes there are better sound bars out there but not at that price range. Sonos are great but it sure comes with a price tag like you said especially if you want surround sound. Thank you for sharing with all of us your experience with the Vizio soundbar. I'm sure a lot of people will find this very useful!
Thanks for the review . I bought this sounds bar and I didn’t know how to setup everything but thanks to you my sound bar , sound amazing 🤩 keep it 🆙 .
Very informative and helpful. Thank you, Sir. I’m no audiophile- just looking for a simple system with good sound for a reasonable price. This system is definitely that. Thanks for the help.
Tip: if you press the volume plus and minus buttons for 5 seconds on the soundbar itself, it gives you the current bios version. latest is 1.0.0.7 i think.
Correct. But that will only work for the latest firmware. If you don't update the firmware it will not announce it with original firmware that it came with if not mistaken.
@@StayPositive-sd8op You need to go to Vizio.com > Support > Find Your Firmware > enter the serial number of your soundbar > click on Get Firmware. When the page loads it will have step by step instructions on how to copy the file to a USB drive, and how to install the firmware to your soundbar.
I use this in my bedroom..... I placed a ceramic 12x12 tile under the sub on a carpet floor to reflect the bass .... This Vizio 5.1 sounds Awesome in my bedroom.... I have a 7.1 Atmos in another room that I seldom use now because the Vizio sounds So Good !!!
I purchased this unit and set it up the other day. Your comments here were just as helpful reading as was watching your video. This Vizio soundbar and surround speakers are quite the bang for the buck. I was very impressed with the sound output and all the level settings. I now get plenty of sound from the rears whereas my old Samsung unit was very weak in the back. Ultimately, the Samsung gave out and Im so glad I bought this one. 200 bucks for a very impressive sound system.
A lot of the features on this soundbar are usually found on a much more expensive soundbar that costs $500-600 or more and not on a $200 one. All the settings that it offers was what made me decide to get it and try out. I'm glad I did, like everyone else that purchased one! Thank you for sharing your experience with this soundbar. I'm sure it will be very helpful for other viewers too.
Do you still have it? Do you reccomend it? How is the dialogue for movie watching? Is it clear? Can you properly understand it even when there's other things happening like explosions?
I had a larger Vizio soundbar from many years ago. It finally crapped out and I was intent on another brand but all these years later Vizio still offers a ton of bang for the buck so I got this one. I'm hoping it lasts a long time. This is smaller than my old one. I was concerned the sound would suffer. Smaller speakers all the way around. But I'm pleased to say it sounds great, even more finely tuned than the old one. I was tempted to use the old sub and speakers because the old soundbar is what died, not the sub and rears. Probably could at least use the old rears. I'll hang onto them. One thing I will caution anyone with Vizio soundbars, they should not be kept on full time. I have to use the eco mode because my Sony doesn't have hdmi arc. Just do not leave the thing on full time or the soundbar will burn out in short order, ime. Turn it off each night. The eco mode is actually awesome for this. In 20 minutes without sound the soundbar goes off. One other great thing to find is this new one has been refined at low volume settings. I could never get a decent lower volume setting with the old one. This one has more fine tuned step down to lower volumes. Yay. My old one had a longer soundbar and bigger sub and rears. It had more balls I think but this new smaller one is definitely finer tuned right out of the box. Didn't have to tweak it much at all. Thanks for this video. Helped to decide!
Are you still using it? How is it for movie watching? Does the dialogue ever get washed away by the explosions and stuff? This is my main reason for wanting to buy a surround system, cause normal TV audio can't properly separate the center channel (dialogue) from the others.
Bought this soundbar a few days ago and I am completely satisfied. Very good sound for what I paid. Needed it for a TV I bought for the bedroom that has horrible sound. Can finally understand the Briitt females in some of my favorite programs.
Indeed it is a very good soundbar. Glad to hear that you are happy with it. Thank you for sharing your experience with this soundbar, I'm sure it will be very helpful for other people that are looking into buying this Vizio soundbar.
Oh man, thank you so much! I was so frustrated putting this together, lol. You helped me so much it's working in 20 minutes vs all afternoon with calling them.
Thank you for the review on this sound bar didn't know there was a front setting on it which helped a great deal sounds a hundred times better still trying to figure out exactly where speaker setting should be but I appreciate what you do thank you very much
I wouldn't connect the PS5 to the soundbar. Connect it to the TV and use the HDMI ARC for the sound. Picture will be better when the PS5 is connected to the TV compared to the soundbar. That's just my opinion.
Ok sorry for all the messages this things is like being in a theater wow. Especially for the price. I had a ilive 40 inch soundbar and i liked it alot especially for the price but i always noticed it had way more treble then bass. This is a sound explosion. Love it
Not coming soon enough right! Just make sure the first thing you do is to update the firmware and then go thru the settings and set it up to your liking.
Visit the Vizio website and under Support you will see "Find Your Firmware". Click on there and enter the serial number. Follow the instructions listed in the firmware results page.
Thanks for the review...Coscto has this on sale for 159.00 til Feb 2! I bought one this week! Question...... How do I hook my x box up while having the Hdmi arch? Do I hook my x box on Hdmi port 2? Will it still play the sound through Hdmi or do I need to do the optical?
That is a good price to pick one up. You can use the other available HDMI port that you said you have and the sound will go to the Soundbar through the HDMI ARC port or you can use the optical from the Xbox to the Soundbar for sound and HDMI to the TV for video.
Awesome review brother DJ. Thanks for sharing. Keep the content coming. Hope you have an awesome day. Merry Christmas brother to you and your family. Much RESPECT brother
Thank you Tim! Merry Christmas to you and yours! Hope you all are doing well and staying safe brother! I bet your granddaughter can't wait until tomorrow to open all her presents and ask you to play together! You going to need all your energy! Much love and respect my friend!
Great tutorial thanks! I just bought the Vixio model V51x-J6. The 3 1/2 mm cables were not included in this model, only empty spaces where they should have been. So I guess the claim that Vizio includes every possible cable you might need is no more.
Ok was a bit frustrated the remote is weird but I think I got it. When you adjust the levels with the plus and negative it doesn't do anything. Doesn't flash or anything but obviously it does adjust it. Just weird. I got it
This helped me so much!!! I’m super unknowledgeable with sound system and this is the first one I’ve owned so I had no idea what any of these meant! Your video was a life saver! I have one question; if I select “movie” under the “EQ” option, and I don’t like that pre setting, how do I quit it and get back to my manual settings? Also, I got mine from Costco for $150 and I think it was a steal! Very content with it!
Glad to hear that my video helped you out. Yes for $150 it is a great price! About your question. There is no "manual EQ settings". Other than adjusting the Bass and Treble levels all you have is the 4 preset EQ modes which you can not disable them. If Movie does not work for you for all types of viewing, try using the Direct mode. You may find that better in my opinion. Depending on what you are watching you may want to switch between the two modes. Also, do you have Surround Sound On or Off? If it is Off that will affect the sound also.
Well it is not one size fits all. A few things that you need to take in consideration when you are setting it up that will affect any setting you applied are: 1st and most important, the source. When you watch a movie from a Blu-ray player it will have a better sound quality than when you watch a movie from HBO for example or if you watch a TV show. 2nd, which sound mode you use. 3rd, are you using the HDMI ARC connection, Optical, or Bluetooth. Now for the balance for the rear surround speakers that you will have to adjust if one is further than the other. If the distance is the same from your sitting area then you really don't need to adjust them. Also is the Soundbar close to ear level or is it above the TV?
when they say home assistant, they mean that you can ask your home assistant to play music on your soundbar, and then it will play through wifi, they dont advertise plugging your assistant into the sound bar as a speaker lol, the app has more details about it, it'll make the soundbar pop up as its own device in your alexa or google home app
I think you are confusing this model with some other model. This model (V51-H6) first of all, does not have Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection so it will be kind of impossible for you to ask Alexa to play something on the soundbar when it is not connected to it in any way. Now when you connect you voice assistant (Alexa) via Bluetooth or with the 3.5 mm cable using the VA Aux port, then you can ask Alexa to play something and it will play through the soundbar as a speaker. Now you do not have to take my word on that but feel free to read the manual on page 27 & 28 which explains how to connect a home assistant to the soundbar. cdn.vizio.com/user-manual/PDF/2020/SB/UM/V51-H6_UM-ENG.pdf My advise to you is before you go and make a comment on someone's video and give their video a thumbs down, do your research first, have the facts and then make your comment.
@@DJsTutorials wow, that’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen, I’ve bought a lot of Visio sound bars, some of the cheapest ones they sell, and they’ve always had wireless capability, the way the manual explained that, in the video you make it sound like a joke, but the manual is the thing that’s funny, sorry for thinking you were the one that’s wrong, That just doesn’t seem like some thing any company would actually advertise
@@voltspc9394 It's all good man. Appreciate you taking the time to read the manual. I agree that most soundbars do work the way you said. Just not this one and that was one of the things that I did not like about this soundbar.
Thanks. Great in depth review. Just purchased refurbished unit from Amazon. Can’t wait to get it. I had a previous Vizio unit that worked great until I inadvertently tossed the subwoofer away 🤨. The Technololgy has improved the functionality quite a bit.
DJ, great review very precise in all details and a nice speaking voice, I did find out some modes of the remote that I did not know before thanks again. I bought two of these at Christmas as well as two vizier tv's I am very happy with all my wife likes the Bluetooth hookup for her music, the sound quality is really good for the cost. Trust me they are not Bose but then they don't cost that much either . I did the purchase because of the easy connection and one remote control for sound bar and tv. I recommend putting the subwoofer on a hard surface if you place it on a carpet it will muffle the low frequency response because of the down firing speaker. I have been at this audio game for many years I retired the Bose system because it was dvd driven and had a small hard drive, it was the Bose 123 . in my workshop I use my 45+ year old pioneer box speakers now that is truly good sound coming in with 15" subwoofers.
Thank you ELKTRIKMAN. Much appreciate the very kind comment. Totally agree with you about the sound quality for the price and with the placement of the subwoofer on a hard surface if possible rather than on carpet. It does make a difference for bottom firing subwoofers. Thank you for sharing with us your thoughts and experience with this soundbar! A lot of people will find your info helpful!
I have a question … would it be pointless to put the two speakers it comes with to the left and right of the actual sound bar ? Does that defeat the purpose of the whole system ( surround sound ) Or should I look for another system that does not have the surround sound speakers .. if so any opinions around the same price point ?
Actually, this Vizio soundbar does have an option to set it up as "Front Surround" where you place the two rear speakers on each side of the soundbar. You can find that setting if you press the "Effect" button on the remote. Now, you could look for another soundbar that does not include the surround speakers (and subwoofer for most) like a Sonos but, they cost a lot more than this Vizio soundbar. Try the Front Surround, see how you like it and decide then. Let me know what you think about the sound when set as front surround.
I hate mine! I purchased it in December 2021. I noticed that the subwoofer and rear speakers would cut in and out intermittently. I called Vizio and we followed the troubleshooting and they sent me a replacement. I received my replacement today and I disconnected the previous system and ran all the wires again. This whole thing took me about an hour. I started playing a movie and after about 30 minutes it started cutting in and out again just like the previous one. I called Vizio again and we went through the whole troubleshooting all over again and the issue was not resolved. I have noticed that the rear speakers and subwoofer go in and out whenever I’m using my phone e.g. replying to a message on messenger or IG. The sound is great when it works fine, when it doesn’t it sucks. I have the subwoofer and rear speakers set up behind the couch and the subwoofer is at the same lever as the sound bar. There’s nothing interfering or blocking the subwoofer and it’s 10’ away from the sound bar. I’ll never buy Vizio again.
That is a little odd the the subwoofer will go in and out when you use your phone. Have you tried moving the subwoofer to the side of the couch instead of behind the couch? Even though it's only 10' away from the soundbar, being behind the couch may interfere with the subwoofer connecting with the soundbar. I would try moving it and see if that helps.
Good Review. I am having a problem with the sub fading in and out. Looks like it loses the Bluetooth connection at least 6 times every minute. I heard that it might be a firmware problem that needs to be updated. Did you encounter this problem?
Thank you appreciate that! Updating the firmware is easy. You need a thumb drive (preferably with no files on it) then go to Vizio's website, Support, Find Firmware, enter your serial number and it will bring you to a page with the file you need to download and also has step by step instructions there too on how to update your soundbar.
TruSound seems to just make everything extremely loud and equalized. When I turn it on, I have to turn the volume down on my PC all the way down and then I get a bunch of static fuzz coming through the speaker when nothing is playing. It goes away when muted. I started using an Aux cable instead of the Optical cable because, for some reason, the sound bar will not pick up on passive/background noises, or sounds that are just more quiet or close to silent. I was using some basic 100 dollar Logitech speakers for 10 years and they sound way better than this and I'm not even sure why the 165 dollar bar doesn't have the HDMI eARC port like the 200 dollar one. I'm curious if they are actually the same sound bar but the HDMI port is just covered by the case on the K6 model
That buzzing noise may have something to do with the plug you are using or have something to do with your soundcard and/or the settings within the soundcard. Optical should give you the best sound compared to the Aux connection and not cause any buzzing. If your soundcard supports Surround Sound, I would use Surround Sound ON, under EQ > Direct and TruVolume OFF. If it doesn't support Surround Sound, then Surround Sound OFF, EQ Direct, TruVolume OFF.
Im aware this video is quite old now. If you do see this though, what kind of screw/mount size is needed for the surround speakers (Hole size for screwing in)? Thank you
For the surround speakers you need to use an 3.5 mm diameter by 1.63" minimum length. If you are not going to mount them on studs, you will need to use anchors to secure them on drywall.
I spilt between $300 Vizio sound bar surround system or the $500 JBL 5.1 wireless surround system that you could charge your back speaker's to the main bar when not in use :)
Movie is more of a simulated but almost real 5.1 sound. Direct will output surround sound as the director intendent it to be. Meaning, if there's supposed to be sound coming from the rear surround speakers, you will hear sound coming out of them. If no sound should be heard then you will not hear anything. With movie on the other hand, it simulates the sound so you will hear sound coming from the rear speakers even though you shouldn't. I had it set to: Surround Sound > ON, EQ > Direct, DTS Virtual:X > OFF, DTS TruVolume > OFF. You will need to adjust the levels for the Bass, Treble, Dialogue, Center Channel, Surround Level & Balance, and the Subwoofer. I can not tell you how much to increase each one since your room size and placement of the speakers will not be the same as mine. Just keep in mind when you increase the Dialogue, it's not the same as when you increase the Center Channel. Dialogue increases the dialogue from all the speakers where Center channel increases the dialogue coming only from the center channel. Something to play around with to see what sounds best for you. Let me know how it goes or if you have any other questions.
You're welcome! It's a starting point. It will take a little time to fine tune it but I'm sure you will get it just right to the way it sounds the best for you. Always here if you have any questions.
So I'm trying to understand if there's a way to save your settings that you like once you figure out ones that work for certain shows and so forth? The learning part of the remote, I was wondering if you had any shortcuts for that or if that's possible?
Besides the preset EQ Modes & Surround Sound (ON-OFF, Virtual:X, etc.) there isn't a way to save any other settings where you can switch to a certain EQ Mode for example and your Treble, Bass, Surround Levels, switch accordingly to how you have them set for that EQ Mode. But that is a great idea if they added a shortcut buttons on the remote and be able to program them to your liking.
thanks for the walkthrough, I've just purchased this soundbar but I'm having issues with disabling the Vizio tv remote from operating the soundbar, even when I turn it off on the soundbar remote control settings, the tv remote still operating the soundbar, I need help
If the soundbar is connected to your TV with an HDMI cable, then it will still be able to control the soundbar, even if it wasn't a Vizio TV. That is part of the CEC that allows devices to talk to each other and control most of the functions of each one like, Power, Volume. Not sure why wouldn't you want the TV remote to control the soundbar rather than using both remotes. Is the TV remote not working properly with the soundbar?
Nice video. I just purchased this same speaker. But I’m having a humming problem that’s ANNOYING. In order for the hamming to go completely off I have to fully lower the treble which sound bad after. Do you have a video to fix the humming problem?
Thank you. No I do not have a video for that. What you can try though is, make sure the correct wires are connected to the correct speaker (Blue wire to the Blue RCA of speaker) and that they are pushed in all the way. Also check the wires for any cuts or damage to the wire. Try power cycling the soundbar. You can do that by unplugging the power cord from the back of the soundbar or from the outlet for a 10 - 15 seconds and then plugged in again and see if that helps. Last, update the firmware for the soundbar. Let me know how it goes.
I just purchased!!! My subwoofer is connected but I can’t seem to hear anything from my smaller speakers? I have to color coordinated wired plugged in properly. What am I doing wrong?
How did you have it connected to the TV when you say the surround speakers were not working? Did you use the HDMI ARC or Optical connection? Also have you updated the soundbar with the latest firmware?
Good tutorial. However I’m feeling like I got a dud because the sound bar is the only thing working. I’ve used the correct cords, etc for the right & left speakers and the subwoofer and I did the speaker test and it all works but when I go to play a show on TV only the sound-bar is working. I don’t know what I did wrong. I made sure the right cables were hooked up and it’s paired to the sound bar. 😢
@@DJsTutorials thank you! I think it was that and I had true volume on and virtual X on and I turned it off and out of no where everything worked. Thanks again!
Hey friend how are you this Sunday afternoon? I wanted to drop by to say thank you cuz I never really replied to people on here but I've asked you a couple questions and you always hit me back and I appreciate it as I do have another question for you on this Vizio 5.1. I've set it up exactly the way you said it's worked perfectly but for some reason today while playing music every now and then it skips in and out while I'm using it in the Bluetooth mode and Spotify on an Android cell phone. Do you know if there's a quick fix a reset or anything I should check in the settings that you might think of to help me out with this? Thanks you and again have a great day. 👍💯
Hi Christopher, I am doing well, thank you for asking. I hope you are as well. There a few reasons that may cause your soundbar to skip or breaks up while using Bluetooth. It could be caused by your router being to close to your phone, or if your phone is next to the TV that may cause interference. If the phone is to far from the soundbar and there are objects in between them like a wall, something with metal, that would cause interruptions also. What I would recommend trying is: restart your phone and then reconnect it to the soundbar or first unpair it from the soundbar and after you restart the phone pair it again. Give that a try and let me know how it went.
@@DJsTutorials Hey man how you doing thank you! Yeah I did that I live in decent size studio apartment and I moved a couple things around and restarted the phone I've had no issue with it since then sorry for the late response but I really appreciate your time taking taking your time to reply have a great weekend. 👍💯
Excellent comprehensive review!! I have one on the way from Costco as it dropped in price. I did notice the remote you show has the LCD display which I really like, but other reviews show a remote without. I will be a bit disappointed if mine comes with the non display remote. Any ideas on that?
Thank you! The remote for this model will have the LCD screen. Maybe the other reviews were using an older model or different model and that's why it did not have it? That's my only explanation.
Got ithis one right after Christmas. Only problem I have had is occasionally a very loud buzzing interruption, I just turn off and after a moment it resets . I guess it's some sort of interference with bluetooth signal if you or any body else here have any info on this I'd appreciate it. Pretty happy overall but the noise is BAD when it happens and doesn't seem to healthy for the speaker(s). BTW, Great helpful video!
I haven't heard anything about a buzzing noise/interruption by anyone and I haven't personally experienced anything like that when I was testing the soundbar for a couple of months. Some other people had issues with sound cutting off from the rear speakers and some got that resolved by installing the firmware update. Others fixed it by changing the sound output setting of their TV from Auto or PCM to Dolby Digital or Bitstream. Another thing that might work for you is disabling the Eco Power function of the Soundbar if you have it enabled. Let me know if any of these options help.
@@DJsTutorials OK! Thanks a lot! I'll be checking on that. Actually the "buzzing" happened several times as I was trying to watch your video! Usually it has happened only rarely and not over and over. I was getting pretty depressed. Then I unpaired from my computer and re-paired, that has seemed to fix it so far since then. It would be nice to know more, but then that's the nature of things isn't it? Always gotta get an education! Anyway, I appreciate ya!
This will be under AUDIO OUTPUT correct? You are not changing the AUDIO INPUT. I take it that you are using the HDMI ARC connection and not the Optical. For the Audio OUTPUT I would set it to DOLBY DIGITAL or AUTO. Now If DOLBY DIGITAL is grayed out when you go to select it, that may be because of the content that you have on. If you play a movie that is in Dolby Digital, that option will be available to select. AUTO (if available as an option), will always use the best format for the content.
You're welcome. What are you using to stream the 4K channels? Some things to try or check. 1st, did you change your TV's audio output setting to PCM? 2nd, try using the AV Delay from the soundbar to see if that helps. 3rd, make sure your internet connection is good. If possible use a ethernet cable to connect to your modem. Try restarting your modem and router. 4th, make sure the device that you are using to stream your content (if applicable) has enough free storage space.
@@DJsTutorials Thank you again. I have a streaming box that is connected with Ethernet ( RJ45) cable and the speed is good enough to run the streaming. The set up in the TV is as you have mentioned it. I will try the advice you gave me of AV delay and reboot the modem. I am not sure of the memory of the streaming box. Regards,
To update the firmware, go to vizio.com select Support, the select Find Your Firmware. Enter your sound bars serial number and it will load a page with the latest version. 1. Click on the link to download the update.bin file to your PC 2. Once downloaded, copy the file onto a USB thumb drive which has been FAT32 formatted. Make sure it is placed in the Parent directory and not in a folder. 3. Unplug the power cord from the Sound Bar and any other cable you are using. 4. Plug the previously prepared USB thumb drive into the USB port on the Sound Bar. 5. Once the thumb drive is plugged into the Sound Bar, plug the power cord back into the Sound Bar. 6. The Sound Bar lights will flash and the Sound Bar will update. This may take anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute. ***Soundbar will go through the available active sources until it finds the USB drive. You can also manually select the USB drive by clicking on the Input button on the soundbar or remote. 7. Once the update is complete the Sound Bar LEDs will blink and the thumb drive can be removed. 8. To verify the version of firmware on your sound bar, press and hold the Volume + and Volume - on the sound bar for 5 seconds. If the Bar verbally announces the firmware as 1 dot 1 dot 0 dot 7 you will know the FW is up to date. If the sound bar does not verbally announce the firmware and only shows flashing lights, repeat steps 1 thru 8.

I have a Vizio soundbar with sub and 2 satellites. I also have the sub and 2 satellites from one of the same model that I blew. My question is if I hooked both subs with all 4 satellite speakers and put everything to pair would it work? My housemate is worried it would be too much or too much stress on the system.
I purchased this recently, and loved the way how it sounded. However, for some reason my subwoofer and surround speakers stopped working. I called technical support but they were unable to help with the problem. Do you know what would make the subwoofer and surround speakers to stop working? The product is fairly 3 months old now. Thanks!
I assume they had you try repairing the subwoofer to the soundbar but did not work. Only other thing I can think of is, the subwoofer is not in close range or it's placed behind a couch or table the obstructs the connection to the soundbar. If either one is the case, I would move the subwoofer closer to the soundbar and try pairing it again. If that's not the case, tech support should of offered a replacement since you only had it for a few months. Warranty should be a year if not mistaken.
@@DJsTutorials Thanks DJ. I did try to repair it several times. Right now, I just disconnected everything, and will retry to connect it from scratch. Hopefully it will kick start itself back into working. If that doesn't work, I will contact Vizio and see about getting a replacement. Thank you for how you went over all of the items that came in the box!
@@valeriehamilton4167 You are welcome Valerie! Hopefully that works but it sounds like you are better off calling Vizio and getting a replacement before warranty runs out.
I have had this for about 4 months purchased from Costco and love it.. but as of today the surround sound got switched to an annoying sound where it sounds muffled and resetting all will not fix it...
If you go to the Vizio website and click on support, you will see Find Your Firmware. Click on there, enter the serial number and in the next page it will have the file to download and step by step instructions on how to update the firmware
Has it always been like that or did it just start? I would start with checking some of the settings that you have enabled/disabled. For example, under "Effect", is Surround Sound ON or OFF. If OFF then no sound will come thru the rear speakers. Check the levels also. You can also try Resetting the soundbar to factory defaults by pressing the Bluetooth and Volume (--) Down buttons for 5 seconds. You will see the LEDs flash 3 times. You may want to check your TVs sound settings also. Like what is it set for output. Let me know if any of these helped.
I use a fire TV cube and every time I come back to my TV the sound doesn't work. I have to reboot EVERYTHING. if I connect or disconnect, even unpair and pair again, the Bluetooth connection seems to not work properly. The fire TV cube does not have a 3.5mm audio Input or 2md hdmi
The reason you are connecting the Fire Cube to the soundbar via Bluetooth is so you can use Alexa and hear the answers thru the soundbar instead of the Cube speaker? If the Fire Cube is already connected to the TV via HDMI and the TV to the soundbar via HDMI and then you try to add a Bluetooth connection on top of it, I think it's confusing the Fire Cube and soundbar on which one to use. I would not use the Bluetooth connection if I was you. Just my opinion.
Someone please help I just got mine but I can barely hear my rear speakers but when I do the speaker test that’s the only Time I can hear my rear speakers help anyone !!!!!
One of the biggest difference is that it has an HDMI In port which gives you the option to connect a game console, Blu-ray player, streaming box, etc. Also they say that it is a little more powerful than the V51-H6. The subwoofer has the same size woofer (5") but this one is a side firing instead of a down firing like the V51. The rear speakers are a little bigger also. It also has a Digital Coaxial connection and a Digital Optical. Besides that, there is not much info on it anywhere that I looked. No HDCP version or if it has 4K passthrough. Hope this helps.
Do the soundbars have fuses? I bought one about 5 years ago without the subwoofer at Christmas time and it worked up until Comcast came and installed their equipment for internet and now it doesn't do nothing I can't even get it to power on with the light to try to Bluetooth it to another speaker so I'm wondering if there's like a fuse inside that might have just blowing or do these things just go out very much you can do with them
Not that I know of. Not sure why the soundbar would be affected by the modem that comcast installed for internet. Did they also install a cable box and connect it to the soundbar?
I have Amazon Firestick and Roku in a different HDMI inputs of the TV and home theater in another. How do I get home theater surround sound with these devices?
Hello! Purchased this a year ago and very happy with it, but I'm having a problem with background sounds being cut out. Sometimes during a movie lower softer music cuts in and out. Sounds like a frequency gate is cutting part of the sound off. Has anyone else experienced this?
Most of the time it's caused by either the subwoofer does not have a clear view to the soundbar, like it's placed behind the couch or a recliner instead on the side of it or it's placed to far from the soundbar. Also make sure you update the firmware and check every other month at least for any new updates.
Hey I need help, when I try to adjust the level of the bass, treble, etc. whenever I click left or right (for increase decrease) it will work once, then when I press the button again to increase or decrease the remote will switch to “VIZIO” like it’ll say that on the little screen on the remote. And the adjustments don’t work so I have to go back to bass, click once again, then it’ll say “VIZIO” again (rinse repeat) it’s more of an inconvenience but it’s still annoying and I’m wondering if there’s a fix?
I need help. My surround speakers, the small 2, don’t really produce sound. Only some treble. No vocals. But on the speaker test it sounds fine. Words are clear
Are there any features on the soundbar itself that could help me find the remote? Like activating a loud beeping signal or vibration on the remote via Bluetooth? Cause they are still connected to each other the remote hasn’t left the room, but for the life of me I can’t find the remote and it’s frustrating me
I use an OTA antenna for my local stations and 2 streaming boxes, Fire Stick and Nvidia Shield. Soundbar is connected to the HDMI ARC port (HDMI 1) of my TV, Fire Stick on HDMI 2, and Shield on HDMI 3.
The subwoofer or the soundbar you mean? The subwoofer goes on standby when you turn off the soundbar. I mean you could plug it in a smart plug and turn it ON/OFF each time you turn on or off the TV, but personally would not recommend it. May I ask why you want to do that?
@@DJsTutorials Thanks for the reply, the reason I want to turn the sub on and off is I am gone most of the day or at work so I don't want the sub to be always on and searching for a signal etc... This is for a bedroom TV that rarely get used but when I do use it I'm in bed so I don't want to go and turn it on and off, that's all.
First thing I would do is download the latest firmware version and install it. After that if they still don't work, make sure blue plug is connected to the speaker input and subwoofer. Also make sure the power light on subeoofer is solid and not blinking.
@@pelonchaz3109 How is your soundbar connected to your TV? Are you using the HDMI cable, Optical, or Bluetooth? Did you double check the subwoofer light in the back is a solid color, that the speakers are connected to the right inputs (Blue to Blue, Grey to Grey)? Also have you installed the latest firmware?
@@DJsTutorials yeah everything is connected right and it’s connected by hdmi it sound bad specially when playing UA-cam music videos or any music from pandora Xm radio and Spotify it sound less bad to when watching a movie or tv
That depends on your TV. Some TVs have a setting to turn off the TV speakers even if you are using a soundbar connected to the HDMI ARC port. Others turn off the TV speakers as soon as you select the soundbar for output.
There are a couple of ways to do that. One way is to connect your mixer to your TV if it has the RCA inputs or use the RCA to 3.5mm cable to connect the mixer to the soundbar.
@@DJsTutorials I’m really looking for a solution where I can utilize the ARC functionality and leave everything permanently hooked up. I’m not sure if I can use multiple outputs at a time. I know for sure the 3.5 mutes the internal tv speakers I was wondering if it would do the same to ARC hdmi as well. Thanks.
Can you give me a little more information on the mixer and karaoke that you have? Like what kind of outputs do they have, does the karaoke display the lyrics on the TV. That way I have a better idea of what you have and what your choices are
@@DJsTutorials I have a Behringer mixer with rca and 1/4 inch inputs. As of now I go from the 3.5 out on my tv to the rca in via and adapter, to a set of powered M audio studio monitors.I’m trying to find a setup that wouldn’t require me to have to unhook the 3.5 every time we wanna watch tv. I really don’t want the kids to mess up my monitors. They’re my back up set but I use them as a secondary reference sometimes.
What is the reason you use your mixer for the TV? For the karaoke so the music plays from the TV into the mixer and you use a mic that is connected to your mixer?
What’s the difference between the series j6 and h6 I went to target because Walmart is sold out and target didn’t want to price match everything match speaker name except model name but there box does not say too much spec it’s about 40 dollar different
According to Vizio's website, they are both the same. The specs that they show on there are almost the same. Only difference is the subwoofer is a little bit smaller on the J6. 4.5" compared to a 5" for the H6 model. Also, the J6 soundbar is also a bit taller, 2.28" compared to 2.24" for the H6. There are no specs on power for either one on their website which I find odd. I will guess that the J6 might be a little less powerful than the H6.
Hey friend I really like your video but I have one question. How do you shut off the voice when you select the EQ options? It all the sudden came on but it wasn't on at all before and I can't figure out how to shut it. Thank you! 👍
Hi Christopher, I don't know of a way to turn the voice announcement off when you switch EQ modes. It always worked that way for me. There is nothing in the manual or online that I could find that shows a way to disable it.
@@DJsTutorials thank you very much I didn't notice it at first maybe I just noticed it once I pressed input. I definitely didn't notice it before but thank you for replying. 💯

I am looking for a soundbar/surround sound system to use with projector. I have dbpower projector. It has hdmi1 and hdmi2 connections and av and ir . Would this soundbar work? If not do you have any suggestions for similar price?
Hello Raquel. No this soundbar will not work for you. You need a soundbar that has an HDMI Input also not just the HDMI ARC output (like the Samsung HW-Q67CT that I did a review on). That way you connect a streaming device (like a Roku, Fire TV Stick 4K) to the HDMI IN of the soundbar and then run an HDMI cable from the HDMI ARC OUT of the soundbar to the HDMI 1 of the projector. Even if the projector has an AV out, it's only a 3.5mm cable that supports Stereo only not surround sound. Vizio does have other models like the M-Series soundbars that have an HDMI IN. Samsung carries a lot of them, also LG, but it all depends on what your budget is. They range anywhere from $299 (on sale) to as much as you can afford (some do cost up to $2500). One thing to look out for when choosing a soundbar, some offer true surround sound (with use of rear speakers) and some have Virtual surround sound (no rear speakers, all in the soundbar) which will not give you the true feeling of listening to surround sound coming from the back of your ears. Some include the rear speakers, others you have to buy them separately and they cost $150-$200 extra.
@@DJsTutorials Oh yea the price. I forgot to mention Best Buy has it on sale for $199. Whoop whoop! Cheers!🍻
That's actually how it says to do it in the book I'm sure you already know cuz this videos old but here's my complaint the left and right surround speakers are just not loud enough I have an ONN soundbar a 5.1 I decided to take them back speakers and hook it up to this v series and OMG you can actually hear what's going on behind you I have cranked up the v-series surround speakers all the way and still and just not hearing what I should be hearing coming out of them but since I put the ONN surround speakers connected them to the v series subwoofer and soundbar I'm getting the sounds from them speakers that I should be I just don't understand why Vizio is doing this and when you tell them they'll just say their systems are designed to feel your room or premium sound I'm in a small bedroom I've done everything the way the book says none of it work my subwoofers at the front left of my TV and the surround speakers are behind me but putting the sub in the speaker's back behind me and all that just I had no base at all
@@DJsTutorials LOL I bought a rug and ran the speaker wires under the rug behind me and I have it where my chair won't roll over the speaker wire
i purchased this system for my living room. i am very happy with the sound. it is in my living room connected to a 55 inch Hisense Roku TV.
Cloth will pass audio very smooth without distorting the sound, that is why most all speakers have cloth fronts, plastic would sound tinty
I'm sure a lot of people will find this very useful!
i bought an sonos arc. had it 1 day and took it back. i was not impressed at all, the old polk i had and the new vizio outperformed the ark big time.
I got this system on sale and after using it I would have paid double. Totally changed the viewing experience.
It sure is a great soundbar!
Just hooked this exact unit up last night and must say that it exceeded my expectations especially the sub. Great sounding setup for $200
For a budget soundbar it sure performs like a high end one that should cost way more than $200! Thank you for sharing!

You are welcome. Yes, I agree. You definitely get your money worth with this Soundbar. Glad to hear my video was helpful. I appreciate the comment.

Thanks for the review. I just bought this sound bar and didn't really understand all the remote options.

It sure does. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for your feedback. Much appreciated it!

Love this surround sound. My only issue is getting it connected to my ps5

Where can I get the update to do so
Visit the Vizio website and under Support you will see "Find Your Firmware". Click on there and enter the serial number. Follow the instructions listed in the firmware results page.
Have one and love it so far, as good as my Bose setup, gets louder than my Denon receiver with Bose.
Ive found that if you use the optic connection instead of the HDMI, it lessons the sound jump on commercials
That is good to know. Thank you for sharing!

I would love to know the best way 2 tune it, like best bass level, balance and all that!!!
Now you do not have to take my word on that but feel free to read the manual on page 27 & 28 which explains how to connect a home assistant to the soundbar. cdn.vizio.com/user-manual/PDF/2020/SB/UM/V51-H6_UM-ENG.pdf
My advise to you is before you go and make a comment on someone's video and give their video a thumbs down, do your research first, have the facts and then make your comment.
DJ,
great review very precise in all details and a nice speaking voice, I did find out some modes of the remote that I did not know before thanks again.
Thank u so much I just got one today for $149 at Sam’s club

I have a question … would it be pointless to put the two speakers it comes with to the left and right of the actual sound bar ? Does that defeat the purpose of the whole system ( surround sound )
Or should I look for another system that does not have the surround sound speakers .. if so any opinions around the same price point ?
Great video! Thank you for making it
Thank you Jay! Appreciate your kind comment.
Very informative review. One question can I setup speakers using WI -FI? If so how? Thanks
Thank you! No you can't setup the speakers using Wi-Fi. Only with the remote or actual soundbar.

Great detail!
Thank you!
Cool thanks for the help
You're welcome!
Can you explain the difference in each of the EQ settings? Looking for the best surround sound experience.
@@DJsTutorials Thank you very much for this! It was driving me crazy trying to figure out the best settings.
You're welcome! It's a starting point. It will take a little time to fine tune it but I'm sure you will get it just right to the way it sounds the best for you. Always here if you have any questions.
One more thing. Make sure that your audio output of your TV is set to "Pass through".
@@DJsTutorials Yeah, thank you for answering the true. That was the first thing I started to think about if there was a way to save the settings.
thanks for the walkthrough, I've just purchased this soundbar but I'm having issues with disabling the Vizio tv remote from operating the soundbar, even when I turn it off on the soundbar remote control settings, the tv remote still operating the soundbar, I need help
Check that "Surround Sound" is turned on. You can find that by pressing the EFFECT button on the remote.
Great video. But I can’t get the surround speakers to work while hooked up to the tv. They only work on Bluetooth
Make sure surround sound is on under Effects
@@DJsTutorials thank you! I think it was that and I had true volume on and virtual X on and I turned it off and out of no where everything worked. Thanks again!

Thank you for sharing that info. People will find it very helpful. Much appreciate it!

@@DJsTutorials Thank you for the quick response!! It should be here tomorrow and I will update you if it comes with a different remote. Cheers!
Came with proper remote (display) and this thing is GREAT!!! Couldn't be happier.
Excellent. You made a great choice!
Vacuum the cloth works great
Got ithis one right after Christmas.
Would use PCM or Bitstream on a Samsung TV? Seems way softer on Bitstream
Thank you well explained. Still have a delay or not syncing between video and audio in some channels. Specially 4K channels.
How do you have your soundbar connected. With an HDMI, Optical, or Bluetooth connection?
@@DJsTutorials thanks again, it is connected Optical. I don’t have choice for HDMI
Regards,
How do you update the firmware on the soundbar??? I would appreciate any help!!!
To update the firmware, go to vizio.com select Support, the select Find Your Firmware. Enter your sound bars serial number and it will load a page with the latest version.
1. Click on the link to download the update.bin file to your PC
Thank you very much for the help!!!
You are welcome

Here's a tip for you all: I highly recommend using the soundbar with a Roku player (or TV) if you don't have a Vizio TV.
Can you elaborate more on that? What would be the reason to use a Roku player if they do not have a Vizio TV.
@@DJsTutorials Roku devices support both Dolby and DTS audio, and using the Roku audio settings, you could choose which sound system to use if what you're watching uses it.
Appreciate the explanation!
I don't think it could pair with two different sources (subs) at the same time.
Have you updated the latest firmware.
@@DJsTutorials I am not sure on how to even love forward with that...

I'm guessing this model doesn't connect to smartcast? I can't get mine to connect
No it doesn't.
My subwoofer is weak and my left and right speaker has no sound coming out of it, can anyone help?

Did you try adjusting the surround levels?

What’s the difference between the V51-H6 and
SB3651N-H6. They are both 5.1
One of the biggest difference is that it has an HDMI In port which gives you the option to connect a game console, Blu-ray player, streaming box, etc.
My dog ate one of my wires that connects the subwoofer to the side speakers, can I use any audio cords? If not where can I get new ones?
As long as you still have the RCA part that connects to the sub and speaker, you can use speaker wire to connect the two again.
Are the speakers Bluetooth or must they be plugged in to subwoofer at all times?
The surround speakers are not wireless or Bluetooth. They need to be plugged in to subwoofer at all times.
I have Amazon Firestick and Roku in a different HDMI inputs of the TV and home theater in another. How do I get home theater surround sound with these devices?
The Soundbar needs to be connected to the HDMI ARC or eARC port of your TV. That's it. All sources from the TV will output audio to the soundbar.
Hello! Purchased this a year ago and very happy with it, but I'm having a problem with background sounds being cut out. Sometimes during a movie lower softer music cuts in and out. Sounds like a frequency gate is cutting part of the sound off. Has anyone else experienced this?
Have you updated the firmware for the soundbar? I would try that first and see if that helps.
I have that!. And a new tv called the Roku tv
Nice! How you like them?
Great!
It’s 👍
I have the same sound bar and it works great expect it cuts in and out for a couple of seconds very frequently, what should I do?
Most of the time it's caused by either the subwoofer does not have a clear view to the soundbar, like it's placed behind the couch or a recliner instead on the side of it or it's placed to far from the soundbar. Also make sure you update the firmware and check every other month at least for any new updates.
Yeah the subwoofer is next to the sound bar I will update and go from there… thank you sir
You're welcome. Let me know how it goes.
Only thing I can think of causing that to happen will be the batteries are low on the remote. Also, have you updated the firmware for the soundbar?
Does this setup has Dolby Atmos? I know the M series does. Thank you
No this one does not have Dolby Atmos.
I need help. My surround speakers, the small 2, don’t really produce sound. Only some treble. No vocals. But on the speaker test it sounds fine. Words are clear
Have you tried updating the firmware?
Are there any features on the soundbar itself that could help me find the remote? Like activating a loud beeping signal or vibration on the remote via Bluetooth? Cause they are still connected to each other the remote hasn’t left the room, but for the life of me I can’t find the remote and it’s frustrating me
No there isn't such feature available.
What's providing your TV signal and how is it connected to your TV and surround sound system ? 🤨😠😡
I use an OTA antenna for my local stations and 2 streaming boxes, Fire Stick and Nvidia Shield. Soundbar is connected to the HDMI ARC port (HDMI 1) of my TV, Fire Stick on HDMI 2, and Shield on HDMI 3.
Can you plug the subwoofer into a smart plug and turn it on and off remotely? meaning is the on off switch a two position switch?
The subwoofer or the soundbar you mean? The subwoofer goes on standby when you turn off the soundbar. I mean you could plug it in a smart plug and turn it ON/OFF each time you turn on or off the TV, but personally would not recommend it. May I ask why you want to do that?
@@DJsTutorials Thanks for the reply, the reason I want to turn the sub on and off is I am gone most of the day or at work so I don't want the sub to be always on and searching for a signal etc... How do I make the side speakers work they don't make sound and i just brought it

The Bluetooth works with Android?
Yes it does.
Is there anyway to hook up a mixer to this setup? I have a 2020 TCL 6 series and the family loves doing karaoke.
Can you give me a little more information on the mixer and karaoke that you have? Like what kind of outputs do they have, does the karaoke display the lyrics on the TV. That way I have a better idea of what you have and what your choices are
