The only reason delena was endgame is because Nina left the show and when she came back the producers felt like they couldn’t get Stefan and Elena back together in just a couple episodes so it stood with delena. In the books I believe Damon ends up with Bonnie and Elena and Stefan for sure end up together.

Frankly, I don't get how anyone could favor Delena. Look at their chemistry. They are straight-up glowing! I objectively believe the finale would have been so much better with Stefan and Elena.
But the fans (of course) had to go for the generic mysterious, sarcastic, bad boy, who only protects those he loves and does not give a shit about anyone else.
I loved Damon, but his character did not need Elena. Stelena on the other hand made each other so much better and their relationship dynamic was so enjoyable.
