Yashica T4 On/Off Repair (Minor)

- Here's a little video going over the removal of the front plate of a Yashica T4 in order to access the metal brushes that contact the board in order to turn the camera off. The lack of solid contact was obvious, and the lens would sometimes stay protracted after turning the switch off. When removing the front plate, all that was necessary was to clean the brush contacts and board with isopropyl alcohol and and small bending out of the brush contacts so that they had a better connection to the board.

Thank you so much, my heart dropped when my lenses were not coming out. This video saved my camera and my heart!
Thanks for good instructions! Inspired by you went ahead with My T4, which was reluctant to power on. I purchased a set of Vessel screwdrivers on ebay, and opened up. I used a credit card to pry the front open. I removed dust using a lens brush. I cleaned the contacts for the on-off switch by lightly scraping with a small screwdriver. Put it back together and it now works perfectly. It looks better also. Thanks again!
Terje Arneng No problem! I'm glad this is just a very minor repair.
I don’t usually comment anything online, but just wanted to thank You. Was able to repair a friend’s Yashica thanks to your video. :)
Thank you, fixed my T4 also, just watching you go through and copying
Great to hear! Glad to hear it's back up and running.
Thank you,I just fixed my T4 with your video
TY
Nicely done...
I have the same issue with the LCD display - didn't think to try "pushing" but that's an easy hack that's been working. Have you been able to find a fix/ repair?
great video! Another on/off button saved :)
thx for the video. at least i know how to open it. do you have advice to fix a non working flash ?
Hi Jack - have you ever removed the camera back from a T4? My door hooks broke off, so I'm hoping to swap the backs.
Hey! I have a T4 as well, and only wanted to clean the clear plastics from all the dust that gathered inside (the covers of viewfinder and autofocus sensors on the front plate). In order to remove the front plate, do i only need to unscrew the bottom screw or all the ones that you did as well?
Cheers!!
Hi jack, I have a disfunctioning parallax correction. Any idea if that’s easily fixable?
do you know how difficult it is to replace the push button at the top?
for the lcd issue, i stuffed a rolled up piece of paper and wedged it in there to keep the contacts touching… works great.
however my lens doesnt fully retract half the time,
and my other copy, the shutter wont fire.
smh
I'm trying to do this just to clean some dust from the viewfinder. I can't lift up the material inside of the battery compartment. Really strugling.
my t4 keeps rewinding the film after like 5 shots....do you know what the problem could be?
Hey :) Do you know what is wrong with my camera when it turns off and on fine, but when I try to take a picture the lens just pops out, the shutter opens and closes but doesn't take the photo?
broken flex cable
hi mine was working perfectly and suddenly one night i tried, it didnt work. thought battery issuee but it wasn’t. repair guy saying cant fix dont kmow what to do.. -any advice ?
Hi is there anyway to fix the lens cover, sometimes it's closed but most of the times not.. thamks in advance.
Did you ever find an answer? I have the same problem
are you worried about the voltage of the flash?
if the connection to the data back wire is severed would it impact anything else on the camera?
Quinn Kearney I doubt it would. However there must be a way to detach it safely. Try doing that first
I recently bought a Kyocera Slim T from a Japanese online auction, and it turns out there's a problem with the camera.
I can turn on the camera, change the flash modes, and turn on the self-timer, but the camera won't take a picture. When I click the shutter button, the lens advances, but no picture is taken. This problem happens on all of the modes except the infinity mode.
Can you help me with this problem?
I have the same problem with my T4. Did you find a fix yet?
Could someone tell me how hard it is to fix my grid lines in my viewfinder? The corners slid down and its kinda crooked im scared to take the camera apart and brick it lol
I have the same problem :(
@@elreplicantemashumano5796 it's meant to be this way, check the manual
Hey, I managed to remove the front cover on a yashica T5 but I can't completely remove it. The front cover and the main body are attached by a rubber tubing that surrounds the lens and I don't feel safe removing the front cover without ripping that rubber tubing. I know this is slightly different than the T4 but do you know how I could remove the front cover safely?
Eh. You can definitely rip the rubber but it'll compromise the water resistance of the camera. Don't know much past that. good luck!
@@jackwiegmann Thanks for the response! I managed to remove to front cover without affecting the rubber. Have you fixed the lens cover before? I'm trying to figure out how the spring mechanism works to make it the lens cover open and close properly.
never used one so wouldn't know :-/
@@jackwiegmann No worries, I'll try to figure something out. Thanks for the help :)
Three years later but, If you remember how you removed the rubber without compromising, I’d love to know
What screwdriver are u using?
MrSodaBelly Just a small Phillips head from daiso
Anyone have any info on how to fix a T4 that wont rewind roll? I pulled the roll out and hit the manual rewind and it won't even spin. I'm thinking it's a bad motor but I can feel and hear it trying to work.
Daniel Ribar Could be a bad motor, but if the motor sounds like it's trying, it might be an issue with the gears that handle the rewinding. I don't know how to get you there, but try checking the rewind gears on the baseplate of the camera. Could be a faulty clutch as well.
@@jackwiegmann Thanks Jack, I was thinking it could be gears too. I'm about to open it up and have a look. I've never done this before so let me know if there's anything you'd recommend I keen an eye out for. What's the word on the clutch, I'm not familiar with that... I appreciate the help.
Daniel Ribar just make sure you keep all of the screws organized and try not to force anything
@@jackwiegmann Thanks man. Having a go at it now.
does anyone know if the LCD is supposed to turn off when the camera is powered off? Mine still shoes the frame counter even when powered off
this is normal
Dude fuck ya, please do more t4 repair videos!
Douglas Jocham I wish! I'm not a repair guy haha.
Do u have any social media ?
Hey man could you repair mine ?
Not all screws have to be removed.
How can I use memory card in camera
