- Coming up is the restoration of a Viking axe head that was found by a metal detectorist that we restored for them. Let's dive into the process of repairing and transforming a rusty Viking axe head into fabulous new highly detailed and engraved axe!
Would you really want to do this with an actual Viking axe head? I would think this would hurt its value.
No. This video is trash
I am right there with you. The historical significance would definitely be decreased. Maybe the age of the blade is overstated for the clicks.
Are you delusional? Do you really believe this is an actual Viking axe?
The thing is they are really not that rare.
All historical finds in the uk have to be presented to the local museum for inspection and cataloguing, and you’d only be allowed to keep those items with low historical and monetary value, so doing this wouldn’t devalue the find. It wouldn’t increase the value either mind
nobody has noticed the keys at 0:03 in the dirt? 😂
authentic viking keys with an authentic viking keyring!!! :)
Authenticity is out the window as soon as they got the brilliant idea to gun blue and laser engrave this axe head. At that point, ya might as well make the handle using modern methods as well. Just my opinion.
I said the exact same thing!
"authentic viking axe" is just a fun story for a video.
"As authentic as possible" except for the CAD LASER ENGRAVING 😉
People need to stop ruining vintage axes for attention, why can't they use modern bad quality axes for that?
@@Somerandomguy2998 Good point, there’s no reason to destroy a historical art effect.
@@iteerrex8166 I hope that's autocorrect my dude
@@Bynming 😂 of course its Artifact. Super smart sentient AI my foot.
Too bad it’s not a real viking artifact, there’s no way I’m not buying it. But for a non-artifact it’s a nice project
That's not a viking axe.
// an archaeologist
You don't want to use power tools on the handle because they wouldn't have made it that way, but you laser engrave the head?? Riiight. I'd rather just say you found an old axe head that you're going to turn into a Viking axe instead of trying to make us think you've done a legitimate restoration.
Stop doing this garbage, if you weren't lying about how old this was I'd actually be mad.
@@anttihuttula6547 this channel used to be good then it was sold off to some low effort "restorers" who lie about how old things are
@@anttihuttula6547 Did you buy it?
@@Thecompanioncrate If it was an actual viking axe it would probably have been way more pitted and probably beyond repair
Nice work, but it's not a restoration. Indeed, it seems to me that the historical part has been completely ruined since the patina of the centuries has been removed, and a Celtic motif has practically been laser-printed on it... It could have been easily done with any other piece of steel or ax from a hardware store... Nothing tells me that's a thousand-year-old head-hatchet. But is it really a Viking hatchet? Looks overly healthy and underworn... I've seen German MP40s pulled from the earth with deeper rust.
You are making a mockery of the beautiful craft of restoration.
You created your own engraving? If this was indeed a Viking battle ax, it either had original engraving, or it didn't. This looks like a small hatchet used to chop brush and small twigs.
Authentic Viking axe head? How did you establish that? If so, it was obviously the weapon of a simple warrior, and as such, an authentic restoration would have preserved its simplicity, not turned it into a showpiece. I mean, sure: You did amazing craftsmanship, but in the end I think you decreased its value as an historical artifact and turned it into a relatively cheap Disney-style fraud. If you wanted to make a fancy fake battle axe, it would have been better to start from scratch rather than bastardize an authentic historical artifact. So...grade A for craftsmanship, but grade F for respect for historical artifacts.
You just can’t do it that’s why your judging
We’re not in school he doesn’t need grades 🙄
Looks great. If it was an old rusty axe from not too long ago this is a beautiful way to make it pretty.
But: DONT BUTCHER AND ENGRAVE AN ANCIENT ARTIFACT, THOUGH. i dont think this is a viking axe, and to speak of authenticity here is a joke. Also...why does this channel never seem to credit the craftsmen and artists who make tge shit happen...? makes me wonder...
total BS!!!! My wife and I live just outside Bath England, If I found this I would NEVER put a grinder or sandpaper to it TOTAL TROLL BS!!!
Nope, sorry, you've ruined that. It looked good when you had cleaned and blued it, but the engraving completely ruined it. It needed a slimmer, simple handle, made from a nice piece of darker wood. Bog oak would have looked excellent imo. Sorry to criticise, I know you put some hours in, but should have gone simple.
I know big title's help with the Algorithm, but do you think we are all a bunch of toddlers? UA-cam used to be filled with real stuff. Guess its just Thumbnails and vIkInG !AxEhEAd
You ruined it as soon as you engraved it, if you really want to restore vintage tools you should avoid grinding, cutting, engraving, etc because then it's not a restoration anymore, it's a modification, it would be like putting a fire decal on a vintage car and calling it a restoration. Next time try only engraving the handle as long, as it's not original and you always put the metal wedge across of the wooden edge
Гельмут! И на другой стороне нашей зелёной планеты есть твои последователи, возвращенцы брошенных топоров во вторую жизнь.
Привет с солнечного Норильска..
fabulous? Then my dirty ass is more fabulous , this has nothing to do with real craftmanship!
The handle is too thick.
It should've been thinned out in the middle.
Well, the guy making and finishing the handle was not wear any type of shoe. Great skills and balls of steel.
Just lost my repect for this channel, addios
Restoration bullshit destuction
I love the viking head logo they lasered onto the head… adds an air of authenticity.
The the authenticity would exist before the engraving and not after.
@@chrisb9960 Sigh....Putin bring on the nukes bro...
Well said, Tom. If they had shown it more closely, we could probably have seen the engraving on the inside that says, "Made in Denmark, 1000 A.D."
This is a joke.
Looks like a prop mate.
had to stop the video after the engraving, was thinking what a idiot,, love from Denmark.🙈😤😭
in the name of the wee man.......🤮
Hmmm.......did Vikings get into East Asia??
Also, he was using ANOTHER ancient Viking axe he happened to find, to chop the handle?.......it sure looked the same!
Lastly, no wonder all those ancient Viking axes are laying around..........with all that wax and oil on the handle, once you started chopping a few people to bits, i'm sure they'd be slipping out of everyones hands!!
When the video was first put on UA-cam on a different channel there was no mention of this being an old Viking axe head. It’s just a piece of rusty old rubbish on which someone has done a nice restoration job. Added to which the commentary is pointless.
This video is embarrassing!!
Doesn't look like as actual Viking axe head, and everything they do in this video is an example of how to ruin an ancient axe head
2:08 thats a buffing wheel.
Surely you should soak an artifact like this in non-acidic iron oxide chelating compound before grinding or polishing?
the likes ratio is so bad on this video, it has 809 likes and 383 dislikes
and its been a while since i havent seen stuff like this
I suppose he joked when he said it was an authentic viking axe. Because it isn't.
am I the only one that saw some old keys in the dirt? 0:03
More of a hatchet really.
If this was supposed to imitate an actual Viking axe wouldn't a fat, carved handle also carve up the user's hand?
How is the cat?
either u used power tools off-set or ur just an amazing carpenter! or both!:)😄😄😄😄😄😄👍👍👍👍👍👍
honestly that duznt luk like a viking axe head but u still did a good job.
This is one of the weapons that most definitely killed your ancestors dawg
A 1,000 yr old axe and you lazer it? smh
authentic. laser engravings. gun blue. authentic. huh.
if that's a Viking axe, wouldn't it have disintegrated over time?!?!?!?
No, the iron would remain. But this 'authentic Viking axe' is fake.
good job
I think the ax head is a Sumerians ax head
Amazing job
Awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing!! It is truly a beautiful weapon!
...LOOKS GREAT , NICE WORK...
Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should do something.
