This live version was recorded for The Who's documentary The Kids Are Alright. This was the last performance of drummer Keith Moon, who died of a drug overdose a few months later. The Who was one of the greatest live bands of all-time, and you're seeing a LOT of their signature moves in this video. Wild man drummer Moon, who attacked the drums like it was going out of style, lead vocalist Roger Daltrey with his wild microphone swirls and tosses, guitarist/main songwriter Pete Townshend with his windmill guitar riffs and jumping around on stage, and bassist, the late great John Entwistle (considered by many to be the best bass guitar player of all time) always standing there calm, cool and collected, the anchor that kept the rest of the band from flying off in every direction. In their earlier days, Pete would smash his guitar and Keith would destroy his drums at the end of every concert. They eventually outgrew that part of the show! The Who are my favorite rock band of all time.
I always thought John Entwistle looked like every part of his body was really stoned, except for his hands. His fingers moving so quickly over the strings of his bass. And yes, I remember seeing a ranked list of top bassists of all time not too long ago (I think it was by Rolling Stone) and Entwhistle was number one; Flea was ranked second.
This is a great!! The Who rocked on every Rock N Roll teenager's playlist in the 80's! School, work & party on the weekends!! I absolutely love you guys & your reactions!!! 💕✌🏻🎶
A former landlady of mine in Los Angeles was president of an orchestra and was/is totally into the music scene in LA (classical focused). She was able to get me into some almost private concerts at the top of a particular hotel on the Sunset Strip. One of those concerts was the Irish group The Chieftains. Who are amazing in their own right. At one point, Roger Daltry came on to the small stage, really right in front of me. He first sang a traditional Irish song with the Chieftains, then they all did Baba O'Reilly. It was brilliant. I could have met Mr. Daltrey, but my leg had been busted up (the foot almost torn off) and I was still recovering. Now the gruesome injury would have drawn his attention, but I was kind of tired, so I let the opportunity slip.
The Who are in the “Top Ten Club” along with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Queen and so forth. The Who were famous for destroying their equipment on stage. Their music is generally high energy stuff. This song is considered one of, if not, their best.
The Who were the FIRST to destroy their equipment if I remember correctly..Also they held the record as loudest rock concert for a long time but I think AC/DC finally beat that.
Got to see the Who play live a few times in the 60's and got crushed right up against the amplifiers and couldn't hear for days after. The concert was amazing. The Who were one of my fave groups. such talent
That is The Spirit of Rock and Roll, taking over the performers bodies. When this happens, it is a completely visceral experience, nullifying the capacity for rational thought. At that point, all that matters, is *the music!* 🤯
Keith Moon the drummer was tops in the World! He would go crazy on the drums that he had to tape the headphones on!! Thank you for playing this classic👍🎶
You are watching a collection of musical geniuses. The singer Roger Daltrey has an incredible voice. The bassist, John Entwhistle is both a composer in his own right, and a world class bass player. Peter Townsend, the lead guitar is a composer like few others. Note the number of transitions in this piece, these were his doing. Keith Moon, the drummer, was probably the greatest drummer of that era. Keith, "Hey Pete, how many drums do you want me to play for this piece?. Pete, "All of them." The album, Who's Next, where this song was recorded, is unquestionably one of the top five rock albums ever produced.
Funny Fact; after Daltry had an amazing career, he decided to do low Budget Canadian TV. He didn't need to do it, but he did. He was AMAZING(Highlander tv show).
That drummer is kieth moon ...best drummer in tje world ..born with those sticks in his hand . Bass is the great John entwistle also greatest bass player in world! RiP to both those rock icons !!! The who is the best !!!
the Who specialise in exuberant energy. If you want to see Who energy dialled up to eleven check out their live performance of My Generation at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival. (when their kind of enegy was completely unknown to the US audience)
A favorite of mine is "My Wife". It completely cracks me up because hubby made a mistake and is on the run from the Missus - "put on my lead boots and take a long, long drive....." 😅
John Entwistle (I hope I spelled it right!) on bass was cool as a cucumber, but her rocked the bass. Pete Townsend on guitar and Roger Daltrey on vocals. One of the best of their time!
The guy who h a rdly moves is is John Entwistle RIP. The drummer is Keith Moon RIP also. Roger Daltrey is the lead singer and Pete Townshend is guitarist/songwriter. Each are one of the best at what they do that's why they are one of the greatest rock bands and live bands ever.
This is one my favorite Who songs! Lots more though! Pete Townsend has so much energy I wish I could bottle it and have some now that I'm in my mid 60s!!
The Who live (Shepperton Studio 1978) “Won’t get Fooled Again”. you must do it. and everybody out there you need to watch it and if you’ve already watched it, watch it again!
Saw them in concert in 75 we were in a Teenage Wasteland having a blast😎 we all thought Roger Daltry was gonna hit us with that swinging microphone 😂 that's Pete Townsend having so much fun, John Entwistle on bass and Keith Moon on drums RIP
The Who evolved from a club act to a major arena act, and their live shows were stunning. Stunning in the sense that they played so freaking loud that the blows to your body from the sound waves would stun you. Roger Daltrey and Pete Townsend developed all sorts of exaggerated moves onstage that could be seen and enjoyed from the second balcony at the back of the arena. Jon Entwistle, the bass player, by contrast, barely moved. His frozen presence onstage was a sort of joke in its counterpoint to the frantic antics of the other three guys. The drummer, Keith Moon, was very unorthodox in his technique, which I'd describe as continuous fills with a regular beat hidden within them. He made a hell of a lot of noise with his kit which contributed to the unique and very full sound of The Who. Moon lived very hard, and partied very hard, and died young.
So you are saying Who not great live ?/This is the standard video from Kids Are Alright stock and pretty good , I always thought..Not perfectly produced in a studio ,no.
I give your reaction nothing less than a 10...cause it made me feel the spirit!! Much love and God bless🥁 (Go anywhere with The Who...can't go wrong 😉)
Peter Townsend. One of the greatest songwriters ever. A Who...or technically 'The Who' concert was nothing short of a life changing event. One of the greatest bands that has ever existed.
I was born in 1970 and I LOVE your channel. Watching from Seattle, WA. It’s great to see such an open minded couple and you are always so positive. I’ll be here for the long haul! 💜🥰💜
The Who's hallmark was their intensity. The best concert I ever saw was them in '75. A half hour after the show ended, a significant part of the crowd was still staring at the empty stage with a "what the fock did I just see!" look on their (our) faces!))
The wild guitarist, Pete Townsend, did most of the songwriting for the band and went on to have a solo career with some truly amazing songs, One of my favorites and lesser known songs is A Real Good Looking Boy. Also, Give Blood and Slit Skirts. As far as the Who, check out Love Reign O'er Me! Most Definitely!
The WHO….. “The Kids Are Alright” Tour 1989. Rich Stadium Buffalo N.Y…….. AWESOME After the concert the Who were being interviewed on the local radio station and the DJ asked the band…. “So what do you think about that new RAP music coming out”…. Roger Daltrey laughed and started to answer when John Entwistle said….. “let me answer this one….. It seems to me that if you can’t write music, can’t play music, can’t sing music, if you know absolutely nothing at all about music, well then, you do rap now don’t you”….. Then. Pete Townshend said….. “If Hitler was going to come back and torture the world again he would use rap music. Roger Daltrey laughed and said…. “Isn’t that the truth”....... 1980.… KLOS RADIO in L.A. Survey…. Greatest Male Rock Vocalist….#1 Robert Plant- Led Zeppelin #2 Roger Daltrey-The WHO #3 Steve Perry- Journey #4 John Lennon- The Beatles #5 Mick Jagger- Rolling Stones.
You two are so Unique. You two took me to Church! Love your perspective. I was in High School in the 80's and this song meant so much to us. "Out here in the fields, We fight for our meals!" Glad to catch back up with you. You might like the latest lyric video of "Lover Reign O'er Me" released by them recently: The Who - Love, Reign O’er Me (Lyric Video) - UA-cam
At 5:43, I love your reaction when you find out that PETE TOWNSHEND could sing as well as play the guitar. He's also the main songwriter for the WHO as well.love you guys, stay well.by the way, the bass player you're also referring to the the OX himself,JOHN ENTWHISTLE. and on the drums KEITH MOON.
There's the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and The Who....probably the three greatest...I would put Pearl Jam as number 4 as I was 16 in 1991 and Pearl Jam loved The Who and do an amazing cover of this song live. I love that you guys are seeing some of these greats for the first time. 48yr old guy with a big smile watching you!
Song was written by the guitarist Pete Townshend... delivered vocally by singer Roger Daltrey. The Who were a unique, explosive band... formed in England in the 60's... John Entwistle on bass, Keith Moon on drums... the original band. Tragically, Keith Moon died shortly after this was filmed in 1978. The Who continued w/ different drummers... but it was not the same. John Entwistle died in 2002 just after The Who played the Concert for New York City in '01 and stole the show that night! Townshend & Daltrey have kept The Who active w/ touring members... but the original band is still the legendary band in rock n roll history🔥🤘
The Who was the last performance at the London Olympics a few years ago. They also blew the roof off of Madison Square Garden at the Concert For New York City a few weeks after the atrocity on 9/11.

The year I graduated high school, 1978! Check out their song Who Are You? ua-cam.com/video/PNbBDrceCy8/v-deo.html. Keith Moon (drummer) was so crazy he had to tape his headphones to his head so they wouldn't fly off (you can see it better in that video, they show him closer)! Was born in Nov. 1959. 1960s, 1970s, & 1980s were a great time to be young, we were fortunate to have so much great music and great musicians/singers! It was a very creative time. All the girls liked Roger Daltrey (singer)!
One word description of the who is all that is necessary. That word (LEGENDS) the only group to have provided all 4 opening theme tracks to a tv series franchise. ( CSI Vegas Who are you, CSI Miami wont get fooled again, CSI New York Baba o'Reilly's, and CSI cyber I can see for miles)
So glad you chose to watch this!! Or should I say experience it! ❤️
I have seen The Who so many times. I was obsessed from childhood. SO MUCH ENERGY.

Mine ,too , Larry..Saw them seven times, overall. With Moon in K.C. in 75 ,and the last time in Phoenix in 2013 on the Quadrophenia tour .
As hood as Entwhistle was he wouldn't have matched Jaco or Jeff Berlin
Well said...hi from Cody Wyoming
This is really one of the best live performances ever recorded, of anybody...
I had their Live At Leeds album and they covered the Canadian band Guess Who's song Shakin All Over
"I don't need to fight to prove I'm right." Indeed.
Baba is a true musical freak of nature! This has been my first song on my morning playlist for ages, LOL, before you were born. This is ROCK and ROLL!
This is a great!! The Who rocked on every Rock N Roll teenager's playlist in the 80's! School, work & party on the weekends!! I absolutely love you guys & your reactions!!! 💕✌🏻🎶
You really should do "Won't get fooled again" from the same concert. Even MORE energy, if you can imagine....
A former landlady of mine in Los Angeles was president of an orchestra and was/is totally into the music scene in LA (classical focused). Duh..
Live At Leeds was a great live album of theirs
True that, Craig..
Got to see the Who play live a few times in the 60's and got crushed right up against the amplifiers and couldn't hear for days after. The concert was amazing. The Who were one of my fave groups. such talent
I saw The Who at the Capitol Center in 1982, I'll never forget, the atmosphere was full of energy!
Saw the Who in Madrid in 2006 and that it was my first proper gig, it was freaking insane
1979 for me after KM died 😢
That is The Spirit of Rock and Roll, taking over the performers bodies.
When this happens, it is a completely visceral experience, nullifying the capacity for rational thought. At that point, all that matters, is *the music!*
🤯
The who defined more than their own generation
Got see them live, twice! One of my all-time favorites!!! Thank you!!! 😃
So impressed that these two totally understood this band and this track
Let’s go O’s Shawn. We been waiting long enough for a winner, last year was awesome
I seen them in concert in the early 80s. Awesome band. Unforgettable
You have to listen to “Love Reign O’er Me”. It’s beautiful, symphonic and will move you. My favorite Who song. It’s also a banger. 😁❤️
I’ve known this song my adult life and you two bring a new perspective. Love your energy. ❤️❤️❤️
Keith Moon the drummer was tops in the World! He would go crazy on the drums that he had to tape the headphones on!! Thank you for playing this classic👍🎶
That booming entry is John Entwistle on bass. One of the greatest bassists of all time.
All hail the OX. !!!
A huge thank you for this one.

People forget that Entwhistle was also a one man horn section in addition to being possibly the greatest bassist ever.
One of the best bass players ever, R.I.P. John!!!
Have seen The WHO about 100 times the last 40 years. They are incomparable. LONG LIVE THE WHO!
I love reaction channels! I love The Who. So glad you listened to the live version for a treat. I saw them when I was 15. You guys are cool. 💕
The Who live "A Quick One rock n roll circus 1968, Young Man Blues Isle of Wight Festival 1970 and Wont Get Fooled Again from this gig in 1978.
1978 - the year i graduated HS! Still a huge favorite!!!! Lots of amazing music to discover! Enjoy!!
Funny Fact; after Daltry had an amazing career, he decided to do low Budget Canadian TV. He didn't need to do it, but he did. He was AMAZING(Highlander tv show).

nice to see an artist enjoying what they are doing
The Who gave us the gifts of the swinging microphone, windmill guitar playing, and the power slide across the stage. Great reaction video. ✌🏼❤️
This is one my favorite Who songs! Lots more though! Pete Townsend has so much energy I wish I could bottle it and have some now that I'm in my mid 60s!!
Same here about bottling Pete's energy, I'll be 62 in a couple of weeks!

The WHO are rock giants !!! GO O's ! The most powerful band in history !
Keith Moon , Entwhistle ( the OX ) , Daughtry and Townsend such an awesome group.
The Who was my first concert, and my favorite band of all time. The Shepperton videos are so hard to watch, Keith is a shadow of himself.
Jesus I miss music like this.
Finally, some One Notices The OX.
I'll watch any live WHO you do. Best live band ever.

Saw them at Shea stadium in 1984. Great band!
1982, with The Clash and David Johansen. I was at the Oct 13 show. They also performed there the night before on Oct 12.
I love Mel's response to this song. Just love it. Took her to church indeed!
The Who's drummer Keith Moon, was without question, the craziest man in Rock n Roll history. Read about him. The man was an absolute animal.
This a live show so its very powerful.
There's the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and The Who....probably the three greatest...I would put Pearl Jam as number 4 as I was 16 in 1991 and Pearl Jam loved The Who and do an amazing cover of this song live. ‘Love Reign ‘or Me’ if you want a beautiful powerful song. The Who Quadrophenia album. If you want a quick banger - ‘the real me’ is a great song.
The cool collective guy was the legendary bass player. Nobody. You heard me. Literally nobody can beat him. The one and only legend 😎
Known as John Alec Entwistle. RIP
The calm, cool, collected one. Bass player John Entwistle nicknamed “The Ox”.
From the same concert video, Won't Get Fooled Again !
The year I graduated high school, 1978! Check out their song Who Are You? ua-cam.com/video/PNbBDrceCy8/v-deo.html.
